Multiple instances of app server

Is it possible to run multiple instances of OracleAS 10g (listening on different ports) on a single Windows 2003 server? What issues would need to be addressed?
Thanks.

I see another thread on this subject. Thanks.

You can have several servers under one domain. No need to create a new
domain for each server. Just configure a server and make sure they are
listening on different ports. you are all set.

  • Install Multiple Instance of sql server

    Hi guys,
I have one question. How can i install multiple instance in sql server ( I am using 180 days VHD to access sql server r2 standard edition). I am accessing sql server through Hyper-V Manager. Can anyone guide me please.
    Regards,
    Jagan

    Hello Jagan,
For each instance you have to run the SQL Server installer and assign a unique instance Name during Installation; for each instance the Installation procedure is the same.

  • Multiple instances of APPS for the same database?

Since upgrading to 11.5.10, we are not able to have multiple instances of APPS open for the same database. Prior to the upgrade we could which allowed a person to have 2 sessions open with different responsibilities, thus not having to switch each time.
Is there a profile setting/patch etc which will allow this again?
    thanks

In my case I think the company's main requirement was to have two separate environments (PROD and TEST) open at the same time which I think is fine.
From memory (don't quote me on this) I don't think the old Personal Home Page is supported from 11.5.10.2 or something.
I think another option was rather than have multiple sessions, add the two functions you are trying to access to the same menu/responsibility then you can open both at the same time.
I just use favourites with one forms function from each responsibility and hardly click on or attempt to navigate the responsibility function list ... this mimics the old functionality.
Also created a few "Copy Favourites" concurrent programs to copy favourites from one user to another or to all users of a responsibility.
Re the old vs new feel - I know the feeling ;-) Ages ago I logged an SR to see if the dynamic tree portlet you get when you integrate with Portal could be used within core Apps, but wasn't possible per standard. Also thought of throwing together a greasemonkey script to achieve the same, but haven't gotten round to that ;-) and it wouldn't work with IE ... maybe one of the OAF gurus might read this and have a crack at it ?!

  • Multiple JVMs within app server - refresh of metdata not working

    Hi guys.
We have an interesting scenario at present when running our application within a new test environment.
Our web-based application has the facility to refresh it's application metadata. This should mean that the next time the browser refreshes (or a user logs in to the application), the application will display based upon the refreshed metadata structure.
Previously, we have run our application on an app server with a single JVM without any dramas. ie. the refresh has always been reflected appropriately when viewing the application - as mentioned above.
However, we have installed the application in a new environment where the refreshing of meta data does not work consistently. That is, only about 50% of the time does the data refresh correctly. This can be seen by pressing the refresh button in an IE browser, so that the refreshed data appears approx. every second time the button is pressed. The only notable difference with this environment is that it runs 2 JVMs within the app server.
It seems that in this case, the 'old' data remains cached for the 'other' JVM, and that when the browser receives 'refreshed' data from the server, it does not always source from the same JVM.
This situation can be resolved by restarting the OC4J container, but this is not a desireable solution.
Is anyone aware of an OC4J parameter that can be set so that the 2 JVMs can run in synch so that both are refreshed appropriately when our meta data is cleared (refreshed) ? I don't believe this can be controlled within the Java source code, but I'm receptive to any other alternate solutions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve.

I'd like to embed multiple instances of the JVM within
    a single, multi-threaded native server process. I'm
aware this was not possible with the Sun JDK in the
    past.
Is this still true (for JDK 1.4.1 say)?Yes, this is still true.
If it's still not possible, are there any timetables
as of when it might be available? No.
Likelihood?Check the current list of JSRs at http://www.jcp.org.
Ah, btw: Is support for VM unloading (during
    DestroyJavaVM()) available now?No.
    >
In any case: does anybody know of a JVM
    implementation
available for Linux which supports multiple VM
instances within a single process? Why do you need multiple VMs? Would multiple separate 'processes' within a single VM work? If so, have a look at:

  • Multiple instances on single server

    Hi all,
    I have a Solaris 10 server with 2x dual core CPU's.
I am wondering if it was at all possible to install Business Intelligence Server on this single OS twice? And if it is, can I split the CPU between the different instances?
The reason for this is that I would like both production and test/development installed onto the same OS to cut costs. But I don't want the test/development instance to use resources that would affect the performance of the production environment.
Ideally I'd like the 2 instances, with the production instance using 3 cores, and the test/development instance using 1 core. If the RAM could also be split that'd be great.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Cheers

Yes, you can have multiple instances of Presentation Services (PS) ([see my blog posting for details|http://rnm1978.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/multiple-rpds-on-one-server-part-1-the-bi-server/]) which would let you split envs, but you'd do that with a single instance of BI server. I don't know if it's possible to run multiple BI servers
I don't think you should be trying to do this anyway, several reasons why not:
    1) It's not supported to run multiple PS on one server. That should be reason enough not to do this on prod.
    2) If it's not possible to run multiple BI Servers on one server then you'd end up running one BI Server with dev/test/prod RPDs - you'd never be able to bounce your BI Server for dev work without taking down prod
    3) Any time you needed downtime for dev, you'd affect prod
    4) Any patching you wanted to do on dev might affect prod
    5) Any experimental work you do that crashes dev would affect prod.
If you only have the one box available to you for costs reasons then you should be looking into virtualisation of some kind, eg http://www.virtualbox.org

  • Cant able to create new instance on app.server ?

The configuration files for this Oracle Application Server instance are inconsistent with the
configuration stored in the repository. In order to protect the repository,
    Hi ,
we are having oracle-app.server version :10.1.2.0.2
since this evening when we are trying to create the instance it throws the below error.
i tried dcmctl update confg also but there also this same error. need ur help.
no further configuration or deployment operations are allowed until the problem with the configuration on the filesystem is resolved. This condition arises when a prior operation was unsuccessful. The exception associated with this failed operation is:
    {0}
. Please also check the logs located at
ORACLE_HOME/dcm/logs to determine why DCM was unsuccessful in updating
the configuration files on disk. Some possible causes are:
    * permissions on files
    * file contention issues on Windows NT
    * internal Oracle error
After resolving the problem that prevented DCM from updating the configuration
files, you may use the dcmctl resyncInstance command to resolve the problem.
Alternatively, you can stop and then restart the active dcmctl or EMD
process and resyncInstance will automatically be performed.
    Thanks..

    Go to
http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Free-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html and download the Partition Magic utility.
This problem is caused by Windows not recognizing the Ubuntu partitions.  Windows is not designed to work with foreign partitions so this problem is caused by Ubuntu.

  • "Open With" drop-down menu has multiple instances of apps

When I right-click on a file and select "Open With", the resulting drop-down menu contains many, many multiple instances of the same app - five Firefox's, five Quicktime Player's, at least three instances of every relevant app. Why is that happening, and how can I clean that menu up?

I happen to have the same problem. However I cannot find the two files in step two:
    2.
Trash the following two files in the Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder:
    * com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
    * com.apple.LaunchServices-014nnn.csstore
I did input my UID number as you are told to do so in the instructions. The only I can find is the one in step six a:
    6.
Verify that the problem is solved. If not:
    1. Trash the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file in the Home > Library > Preferences folder of the affected account. See Note [3].
Is there a reason as to why I cannot find those files? Oh and I did delete it; all it did was reset the file associations.

  • WIll multiple instances on same server use same SA by default?

I have a SQL server on which I've created a second instance using Windows authentication. I never created an SA account or password during installation of the new second instance.
In Security > Logins, I see SA. Is this the same account as the one in the other instance. I don't know the other instance's password, so if I change it in the new instance will it be changed in the previously existing instance as well?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi,
SA account will be created as a part of the SQL install and we don't get to specify a passowrd while installation when windows authentication is chosen. This is the reason why the SA is disabled if you check in the mgmt studio after SQL installation. Try
logging in using the admin account that you have provided for the SQL server instance during the Sql install, This will allow you to enable the SA account and you can change the password.
This won't let you to login using SA acount unless you have changed you authenticaion mode to  MIXED @ Security tab on Server properties. Restart of the instance is required to bring this change into effect. Now you can login using SQL authentication
specifying the SA account and password.
No SA accounts on different instances of SQL server are same. They are unique per instance and changing the password on one SA account for an instance doesn't have any affect on the others.
    Hope this helps,
    Many Thanks

  • Multiple instances of weblogic server 6.1 running on the same machine

    Hi,
I need to run two instances of weblogic server 6.1 running on the same

applications. I need two instances to be independent of each other. I am

    Hi.
You can create new servers in your domain via the console. Be sure they are
listening to different ports, however. If your NT machine supports more than
1 IP address then you could alternatively bind each server to a different
    address.
I'm not sure if this answers your question?
