Multiple j-sessions for IOP fail-over?

Weblogic has the ability to support multiple j-sessions to allow fail-over of the connection.
My understanding is that this is not currently supported in IOP.
When will IOP support multiple j-sessions?
Is it possible to get a patch for this in the current version 11 of IOP?
Thank you.

That is part of the product roadmap to support multiple j-sessions for IOP fail over using Weblogic. That way, if the primary IOP server fails, the user can be re-routed to the backup server in a high-availability fashion. However, that is not supported currently, but will be over the next couple of releases.

  • Multiple types of database and fail over clustering

    Hi,
I have a few questions here.
    1) Can I have 2 types of databases (eg: OLTP and OLAP)run at the same time on a same machine?
    2) Can I implement a cross fail over cluster in this situation? Meaning I have 2 machines with OLAP and OLTP database instances installed in them (replica of each other), 1st machine running OLTP and 2nd running OLAP. In the situation where one of machines fail, the passive instance on the other machine takes over (back to situation on question 1).
    Thanks

  • Multiple user sessions for ADF application

    Hi All,
We have a ADF application with 3-4 pages starting with a login screen.
Assume we have two users, user1 and user2. In same system but different browser windows, when both users are logging in, only user2 's session is active. Though user1 logged in first and is able to perform transactions, the moment user2 logs in, user1's session is being over-written by user2 (user1's window now displays user2's information). I have observed the URL of user1 window which now changes to user2's URL (_adf.ctrl-state parameter of user2 is displayed in user1 browser)
How do we overcome this?? We have a requirement to be able to open multiple user sessions.
We are using JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0 and browsers being used are IE 8, IE9 and chrome.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Continuation to my above question
I am using these two statements in my code..
    ExternalContext ectx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
    HttpSession httpSession = (HttpSession)ectx.getSession(true);
On any event in Window1, I gues it is getting the context and session of window2(this being the latest)..
Shouldnt it return the context and session of the current window instead of the latest window???

  • Requirements on an EJB to be eligible for a fail-over

    Hi all,
I was reading the EJB developer guide for weblogic server 9.2. When talking about the fail-over feature the guide said
"EJB failover requiers that bean methods must be idempotent and configured as such in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml"
There are two points in this statement.
              1) Fail overs must be configured
              This is straight forward.
              2) The bean methods must be idempotent.
I don't really understand this point. Does this suggest that the bean methods should conform to some guide lines? If so what are they?
Probably these are clarified in some other document or other resources. Being impatient and a little lazy I would love to have this clarified in the forum.
              Thanks in advance,

    Daniel,
I think since this will be the ONLY system that will be running as a DC providing ADDS and the Direct access server, i should follow this advice from the article you sent:
For users who never connect directly to the Contoso intranet or through a VPN, they must use the DirectAccess
Offline Domain Join process to initially join the appropriate domain and configure DirectAccess. When this process
is complete, the users log on normally and have the same experience as if they were directly connected to the Contoso intranet.
Because remember, no user will ever connect directly to the subnet where the server is. so do an offline join First and then start managing.. Only thing im worried about is: they keep saying that the direct access function has significantly improved in windows
    8. hmmmmm many systems will be using windows 7 Pro 64Bit. Some windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. should i worry?

  • Can the ASA5510 be used to terminate multiple PPPoE sessions for hosting ?

    Hi,
We are wanting to provide broadband services to customers on site, but keep it separate from our main internet pipe for the business.
I am wondering if we could use a Cisco ASA and make use of the PPPoE client ?
My idea is to use a different sub-interface to connect to each ADSL modem, using a separate PPPoE client instance to obtain IP etc. I would then like to use different sub-interfaces on the inside on which the customer networks will sit. I would then use NAT overload onto the PPPoE interface for each "inside" customer vlan to provide internet access.
Is this possible ? or am I barking up the wrong tree ? As I mentioned previously, we are wanting to add addition ADSL lines as more customers come on board.
Or is there another device out there that can do what we are wanting at low cost ?

This works for on the ASA, the device works as a PPPoE client:

  • Sun Identity Manger 8.0 and fail over..

We are setting up a fail/recovery site for our Sun Identity Manager solution, I had pictured a seem less fail over, but that looks near impossible to do with oracle database. I had pictured load balanced Appserver, with load balanced data bases, sort of a multi-master like LDAP allows..
Curious what others are using for a fail over site / setup.
    Thanks

We're using 7.0. For us failover is basically mulitple servers all using the same DB repository, with a "smart" loadbalancer in front of them (smart meaning, able to detect which back end servers are responsive).
IdM doesn't use any inter-server temp-data synchronization, all the servers running off the same repository communicate by committing changes to the database.
So if a specific IdM instance dies, on the next page load the user will be redirected to a new server. That server will redirect to the login page and ask the user to re-auth, with the desired page placed after login.jsp as a "nextPage" argument. After (re-)logging in, the user's returned to the page they were trying to get to. However, in-progress edits that had not been committed back to the database will be lost.
We looked at high availability arrangements where valid sessions are shared across a new server, but fundamentally the limitation is that the app servers still don't sync in-progress edits, so the only difference between an HA environment and a more passive fail-over environment (like ours) is that in an HA environment the user doesn't have to re-login on a server failure; they still lose in-progress edits. So HA didn't seem like it added value to us.
If you are literally talking about an off-site, completely standby, seamless failover site, I agree I don't see how you would do that. I'd expect that you'd need the offsite setup to be a cold-standby site; configured to use the replicated database, but with the apps powered down until you actually need them. Otherwise, I think you'd have problems with the standby site servers not wanting to "standby". You could ensure no users end up on the standby servers, but background processes are likely to be run across both the primary and the standby services; I don't think you can enforce an "idle but running" status for the standby servers.

  • Physical standby database fail-over

    Hi,
I am working on Oracle 10.2.0.3 on Solaris SPARC 64-bit.
I have a Dataguard configuration with a single Physical standby database that uses real time application. We had a major application upgrade yesterday and before the start of upgrade, we cancelled the media recovery and disabled the log_archive_dest_n so that it doesn't ship the archive logs to standby site. We left the dataguard configuration in this mode incase of a rollback.
    Primary:
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2='DEFER';
    alter system switch logfile;
    Standby:
alter database recover managed standby database cancel;Due to application upgrade induced problems we had to failover to the physical standby, which was not in sync with primary from yesterday. I used the following method to fail-over since i do not want to apply any redo from yesterday.
    Standby:
    alter database activate physical standby database;
    alter database open;
    shutdown immediate;
startupSo, after this step, the database was a stand alone database, which doesn't have any standby databases yet (but it still has log_archive_config parameter set and log_archive_dest_n parameters set but i have 'DEFER' the log_archive_dest_n pointing to the old primary). I have even changed the "archive log deletion policy to NONE"
RMAN> configure archivelog deletion policy to none; After the fail-over was completed, the log sequence started from Sequence 1. We cleared the FRA to make space for the new archive logs and started off a FULL database backup (backup incremental level 0 database plus archivelog delete input). The backup succeded but we got these alerts in the backup log that RMAN cannot delete the archivelogs.
RMAN-08137: WARNING: archive log not deleted as it is still neededMy question here is
    1) Even though i have disabled the log_archive_dest_n parameters, why is RMAN not able to delete the archivelogs after backup when there is no standby database for this failed-over database?
    2) Are all the old backups marked unusable after a fail-over is performed?
FYI... flashback database was not used in this case as it did not server our purpose.
Any information or documentation links would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harris.

    Thanks for the reply.
The FINISH FORCE works in some cases but if there is an archive gap (though it didn't report in our case), it might not work some times (DOCID: 846087.1). So, we followed the Switch-over & Fail-Over best practices where it mentioned about this "ACTIVE PHYSICAL STANDBY" for a fail-over if you intend not to apply any archivelogs. The process we followed is the Right one.
Anyhow, we got the issue resolved. Below is the resolution path.
    1) Even though if you DEFER the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_N parameter's on the primary, there are some situations where the Primary database in a dataguard configuration where it will not delete the archive logs due to some SCN issues. This issue may or may not arise in all fail-over scenarios. If it does, then do the following checks
Follow DOCID: 803635.1, which talks about a PLSQL procedure to check for problematic SCN's in a dataguard configuration even though the physical standby databases are no available (i.e., if the dataguard parameters are set, log_archive_config, log_archive_dest_n='SERVICE=..." still set and even though corresponding LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_N parameters are DEFERRED).
If this procedure returns any rows, then the primary database is not able to delete the archivelogs because it is still thinking there is a standby database and trying to save the archive logs because of the SCN conflict.
So, the best thing to do is, remove the DG related parameters from the spfile (log_archive_config, log_archive_dest_n parameters).
After i made these changes, i ran a test backup using "backup archivelog all delete input", the archive logs got deleted after backup without any issues.
    Thanks,
    Harris.

  • Replication fail-over and reconfiguration

I would like to get a conversation going on the topic of Replication, I have
setup replication on several sites using the Netscape / iPlanet 4.x server
and all has worked fine so far. I now need to produce some documentation and
testing for replication fail-over for the master. I would like to hear from
anyone with some experience on promoting a consumer to a supplier. I'm
looking for the best practice on this issue. Here is what I am thinking,
please feel free to correct me or add input.
    Disaster recovery plan:
1.) Select a consumer from the group of read-only replicas
2.) Change the database from Read-Only to Read-Write
3.) Delete the replication agreement (in my case I am using a SIR)
4.) Create a new agreement to reflect the supplier status of the chosen
replica (again a SIR for me)
5.) Reinitialize the consumers (Online or LDIF depending on your number of
    entries)
That is the general plan so far. Other questions and topics might include:
1.) What to do when the original master comes back online
2.) DNS round-robin strategies (Hardware assistance, Dynamic DNS, etc)
3.) General backup and recovery procedures when: 1.) Directory is corrupted
2.) Link is down / network is partitioned 3.) Disk / server corruption /
    destruction
Well I hope that is a good basis for getting a discussion going. Feel free
to email me if you have questions or I can help you with one of your issues.
    Best regards,
    Ray Cormier

There is no failover in Meta-Directory 5.1, you can implement manual failover on the metaview by using multi-master replication with Directory Server. There are limitations and this is a manual process.

  • Fail-Over?

Hi,I'm looking into the fail-over solution for our Essbase server. I'm currently looking at EDS's clustering solution. Could you please share your experience with it if any of you as it implemented? Also, I'm wondering if there are anyone who was successful in implementing the unsupported fail-over solution such as MS Clustering or anything else? If you have any unique idea for the fail-over, I'd appreciate it if you could share it with me.Thank you,Tony

Hi Tony,I believe the EDS solution uses the industry standard J2EE clustering which has wide vendor support and has been around longer (ie more mature).I haven't personally setup J2EE clustering (or the MS clustering either) so I can't offer any personal advice on the topic.Tim TowApplied OLAP, Inc

    1. You initialise only 2 of the 4 meters. Initialize all meters.
    2. In sequence 0 you close the session to the meter. In the next loop iteration it will not measure as you intended. Delete the "VISA Close" function.
    3. The stop button would cause the while loop to exit. But your handling is a little bit complicated. Do following:
Delete the "not" and case where the stop terminal is connected. Wire the stop terminal directly to the termination terminal of the while loop. With the context menu set it to "stop if True". Wire the VISA sessions to the right border of the while loop and connect t

Recently upgraded to Unity Connection version: 10.5.1ES78.11901-78 from 9.1.2ES46.12900-46.
After upgrading we are experiencing an issue whereby the pub continually fails over to the sub without any obvious reason for the fail over. We've experienced this bug before on 9.1.1 which was the reason for the upgrade to 9.1.2. There is no bug case that is established for this issue on v10.5(1)SU1a. • Do sapconsole sessions fail over ?

    Hello all,
We have users in our warehouse plant using RF Devices and connecting via two sapconsole servers to our R/3 Enterprise system.
There are times when the router on our remote location will failover to an alternate router.  We have noticed that the RF devices tend to hang and take a while to clear.
The question is when the network connection is failed over to a new router, will active sessions be impacted ?
Does the same hold for normal sapgui sessions ?  It appears our normal SAPGUI users are "less" impacted by this switchover.
    Thanks,

Specific to the AP failover. Why dont you deploy AP FALLBACK? When a controller falls offline for
any reason the APs join other controllers. HOWEVER when the controller comes online they will fallback to the controllers
you want with NO intervention from you.
    fyi
NoteWhen an access point’s primary controller comes back online, the access point disassociates from the backup controller and reconnects to its primary controller. The access point falls back to its primary controller and not to any secondary controller for which it is configured. For example, if an access point is configured with primary, secondary, and tertiary controllers, it fails over to the tertiary controller when the primary and secondary controllers become unresponsive and waits for the primary controller to come back online so that it can fall back to the primary controller. The access point does not fall back from the tertiary controller to the secondary controller if the secondary controller comes back online; it stays connected to the tertiary controller until the primary controller comes back up.

to see if the any has a usernaem jdavid, I am basically looking for some pattern if any available for restricting multiple session for the same username . like jaas or any other security api provides this ?

Store a Map<User, HttpSession> in application scope and let your application intercept on that. On login, just check if the User is already there, then get the associated HttpSession, invalidate it and replace it by the current HttpSession, else just store the current User-HttpSession pair in the map. On logout obviously remove the User-HttpSession pair from the map.
