  • Multiple Oracle Homes and Multiple Listeners

I have two existing oracle homes on the same server and would like to change the configuration so that they have their own listener listening on different ports. How do I do this? What are the critical files that need to be changed?

    user445507 wrote:
Thanks Hans but we may have a need to take down a listener and oracle_home for one and leave the other running. Are you suggesting adding a listener declaration in the listener.ora on both oracle_homes for both listeners and change the ports while leaving the port in the tnsnames.ora for both homes at 1521?
We are on Solaris 10 and using 10.2.0.4Databases these days register themselves to the listener. You do absolutely nothing in the listener.ora file.
    Simply
    - shut down the listener in ORACLE_HOME #1;
    - start up the listener in ORACLE_HOME #2 with the defaults;
    - access each database as a DBA and run 'Alter System Register;' on each database;
    - verify the listner knows about the all using 'lsnrctl status'
One common misconception is that the listener must be up. Only true to accept NEW connections - existing connections will not be affected if the listener is taken down.
Precondition is that all databases are installed under the same UID/GID

  • Restoring an oracle home and oracle inventory

    Hi,
We are on oracle 10.2.0.3 and oracle 9.2.07 on solaris 8. (there are both versoin db on same server)
I am taking a backup of oracle home and inventory before a critical os patch. suppose something goes wrong and the whole server has to be rebuilt, what is the process of restoring the oracle home and the oracle inventory? should I just unzip the zipped backup in the same directory?
    Thanks,

Also, probably would be a good idea to take a quick glance at the Oracle Homes section of the Universal Installer guide.

  • Relinking Oracle binaries and multiple Oracle Homes

    Hello,
My question is related to relinking Oracle binaries in the following scenario:
As part of larger migration project we are moving all the databases from one server to another. Both on old and on new server the OS is the same: HP-UX 11.23i. There are 5 databases on the source server, each with it's own Oracle Home (and Oracle binaries). All Oracle binaries for all the databases are version 10.2.0.3.
On the new server we have some of the migrated databases already in production. Now our DBA wants to move another database and, because for each database binaries are moved also from source to destination server, he has to relink the binaries on target server. Is it required to stop all the databases on the target server to perform the relink for this one DB, even if they all have separate Oracle Homes (binaries)?
    Thanks for your answers

  • Oracle 10.2.0.3 Databases  - Restore to New Server

We will soon be replacing an old server with a new server and I need to restore all Oracle 10.2.0.3 databases to the new server
and ensure Oracle functionality/connectivity with all databases.
I am in the process of testing and need advice and hopefully a 'Step by Step' process I can follow.
I am a systems admin - not an Oracle db admin - so please explain details of any commands I may have to run.
    I have already tested once:
ran command prompt: sqplus / as sysdba
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
    Stopped all Oracle services:
    Oracle Database
    Oracle Listener
    Oracle DBConsole
Installed Oracle 10.2.0.3 on new server
Ensured that the SID and all other Oracle services information matched the old server during installation on the new server.
Stopped all Oracle services on the new server (used the steps above).
Backed-up and test restored to new server.
Enterprise Manager shows: Listener Up Database Instance Down Agent Down
    Any help would be appreciated

It would be good to know your operation system. I hope both new and old match or similar.
You can use RMAN to dumplicate you DB so you can follow [Creating a Duplicate Database on a New Host. Doc ID: 388431.1|https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=388431.1]
but a simple file system copy based manual duplication is also possible if new and old OS system is similar...

  • Is it possible to deploy SharePoint or its Service Applications on: multiple DB-Servers and multiple SQL Instances?

    Hello Forum,
We have a SharePoint 2013 farm (Enterprise edition) that uses one single SQL Server 2012 (Standard edition). That statement means: All my SharePoint DBs e.g. (Config, Admin, Content, and Service Apps) DBs are hosted and running onto one single instance e.g.
    Server1\SQLInstance1.
We have some new requirements to install and configure BI tools such as: PerformancePoint services and PowerPivot. BI tools require either SQL Server 2012 Enterprise or BI editions, and we do NOT want to upgrade our current SQL Server1\SQLInstance1
Instead, We have other separate SQL Server instance which is enterprise edition let's name it (ServerX\InstanceX) that is running standalone, and we are thinking or using it, and my 2 questions are:
    1) Can we use this other separate
SQL Server instance which is enterprise edition to host the create and hosts the DBs of PerformancePoint services and PowerPivot ?
    2) My second question is the same: Can I create PerformancePoint services application in my SharePoint farm, But in the Database Server field, I fill up
the details of the other DB server ServerX\InstanceX  which is the one that is SQL
enterprise edition ? Will this work ?
Any official Microsoft resources/links tell that it is possible to deploy SharePoint or its service applications on multiple DB-Servers and multiple SQL Instances?

    Thank you Alex and Anil,
What are the ramifications of that?
I mean, Assuming that I have created such a farm where most of SarePoint DBs in Standard SQL instance while the PerformancePoint service application and others e.g. PowerPivot and reporting service are deployed and configured onto other Enterprise SQL instance.
Are there any recommendations or concerns that you would like to draw my attention to ?

  • Installation of EBS 12.1 and Database on the same server

    Hi,
Due to resource crunch, I would like to do new installation of EBS 12.1 and Database on the same server where already EBS 12.1 and Database installed.
I have one server where EBS 12.1 and Database installed (Single node installation).
Now I want to create another environment for other purpose (another test env.). But I don't have another server .
So Can I start new installation of EBS 12.1 and database on the same server ?
I have enough space and memory on server.
Are the installtion conflict with each other ? any implications happen on the first environment ?
I want my first environment run fine without any prob., after installing EBS and DB on the same server.
    Please guide me.
    Regards,
    Sanjay Patel

So Can I start new installation of EBS 12.1 and database on the same server ?
I have enough space and memory on server.Yes you can as long as you have sufficient resources.
Are the installtion conflict with each other ? any implications happen on the first environment ? If you install in different ORACLE_HOMEs you should be OK.

  • Restore database in the same server but with other sid (name)

i try to restore the database in the same server but with other sid (name) . The backup is on tape and
I want to know the steps I should follow.
    thank.

To perform restore of database in same host to choose another DB name you can go for
    1) duplicate using RMAN.
Directory structure should be different so take care of db_file_name_convert & log_file_name_convert parameters
Also check the Tns services exactly is it pointing to target & auxiliary

  • RAC and RAC One Node on the same server?

    Hello all,
Anyone know if having RAC and RAC One Node on the same server is possible, supported, and recommended? Our architecture group is moving towards this configuration as a standard, and I need solid direction about feasability.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes you can have the RAC and RAC one on the same cluster. For support and recommendations raise a service request with oracle support

  • Want to use single oracle home for multiple database releases

  • Multiple Oracle Homes and SAN

    hi gurus,
i need to install two instances of oracle 10g on solaris 10 and have 6 tb of SAN available to use.
i understand that i can place all the data/redo/arch files on the san.
    my question is,
can i place the oracle binary, oracle home etc on the SAN instead of the local disk? advanatages/disadvantatges etc
    thanks is advance,
    newbie

can i place the oracle binary, oracle home etc on the SAN instead of the local disk? advanatages/disadvantatges etcYes you can. This is often used for some cases (shared Oracle Home for RAC).
My opinion is SAN space is too expensive to waste a space this way (if there is another option).
Note In case you will be creating the RAC installation then you can do shared Oracle Home but do not try to create shared Inventory.

  • Oracle reports and multiple pages

I am new the Oracle Reports and I am trying to generate a report that can continue to the another page. For instance, if my list of items exceeds the first page of the report, the remaining items will be printed on the next page. We can get it to continue to the next page, but the formatting of the following pages after the first page needs to be different. Currently, it is placing the remaining items in the same position as the first page. The remaining items should be further up the page.
In short, how do I generate 1 report with 2 different formats. All pages beside the 1st page will be the same.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

Please post the details of the application release, database version and OS.
I would like to ask for your help regarding printing from concurrent requests.
I am currently having an issue with printing multiple pages from Oracle reports, both in text format and RTF/PDF formats.
When I generate a multiple page report and print it directly from a concurrent request, print outs generate extra space after each page even though page size is indicated in the reports (all of them are in letter size). What if you print the output file from the OS, can you reproduce the issue then?
    Troubleshooting (Printing) [ID 104528.1]
An Extra Empty Page Is Printed at the End of Requests Output [ID 1011499.7]
I have already tried editing the printer drivers both the actual driver config file and through the application but the results are still the same. Can you reproduce the issue with other printers?
This is very important since printing is done on continuous paper and continuous pre-printed forms
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If the issue is urgent, please log a SR.
    Thanks,
    Hussein
