Multiple problems with ITunes 7.0.1 on XP machine... please assist

I've read most of the threads on this topic, done most of what has been recommended here and in the support section of the apple site, and I am still at a dead end. Needless to say, I just find it incredible that Apple is not issuing a comprehensive fix whith an official apology to all of us who have spent hours on end trying to fix this and who've spent good money on equipment that just doesn't work anymore.
Here are my problems, would appreciate any help I can get:
- iPod recognized by Windows but not iTunes. I have uninstalled both iTunes and quicktime, stopped and started the iPod service, downloaded the Microsoft clean up program, done every single thing that's been recommended. Once in a while, the iPod is recognized after stopping and re-starting iPod service. Most of the time, it is not.
- On the rare occasion that I've been able to sync, the movies and audiobooks that I have purchased over time are not downloaded. Have followed instructions on changing directory names, etc, etc. To no avail. On one occasion, many albums were duplicated in the library and I now have duplicate files everywhere. With thousands of files to clean up, it is taking me forever to try to clean up.
- Podcasts are not downloading properly. Sometimes they do, sometimes the same old podcast is downloaded multiple times.
- I downgraded to 6.5 which used to work ok. Big issues with recognition and finding files. A lot of freezing, file duplications. Re-ugraded after 7.0.1 came out. What a disaster.
Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the assistance. I've disabled the antivirus software (PC Cillin) but that has unfortunately not helped. The iPod was recognized for a time this morning, but upon trying to sync, I got the following error message :
"The ipod "......" cannot be updated. The required folder cannot be found"
That is a new one. Does it help at all to ellucidate?
Thanks again

  • Multiple Problems with itunes...PLEASE HELP

i'm crossing posting this to try and get as much help as possible, so i'm sorry if you see this in a bunch of places.....
i posted awhile back and didnt get much help and i'm still having problems with itunes
first of all when i open itunes it attempts to do the gapless playback stuff....if i let it do it....it gets half way through and freezes....but if i stop it before it freezes, i am able to play music BUT not import any songs from cd, ipod, or downloading software....
so, i deleted the library and imported "iTunes Music Library.xml"....then i went into my itunes folder and started dropping the songs into itunes...and i got about 3/4s of my music (about 25 gigs) and it starts to freezes when looking for album covers....if i force quit and reopen the song will be in there...just not the album work....which is fine....but if i have to force quit every time i import a song, its going to get rediculous....i have tried deleting the library and importing the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file about 6 times now, with the same results.....
ALSO...when i connect my ipod to my computer (i have 80 gig 5G) it will freeze while syncing....
i honestly have NO idea what to do....any suggestions would be welcomed...thanks....

    modulatetome,
See if these articles help to narrow down the issue:
First: How to recreate your iTunes Library
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
    - You stated you had " deleted the library and imported "iTunes Music Library.xml", so verify steps in article are what you've done, or try them again.
Second: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
    - You can use this to open iTunes with an empty Library, import one CD and test how iTunes works.
    Hope this helps,

  • Multiple problems with itunes and ipod touch

I don't even know where to begin explaining all the problems I've had with itunes and my ipod touch, along with the troubleshooting that I've done to no avail.  Now, I'm totally frustrated.  So, here I am hoping that I can get some help from someone.  I spent almost $400 for my ipod touch and don't want to have to give up on it.
First, in case you need to know, I have the latest version of iTunes (10.2.2.14), an iPod Touch.  My Windows edition is Windows Vista with Service Pack 2.  My system has the following:
         Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Company
         Model: m9150f
         Processor:  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU   Q6600 @ 2.40GHz  2.40 GHz
         Memory (RAM):  3.00 GB
         System type:  32-bit Operating System
Next, in order to simplify what I have to say, I'll just briefly tell you what problems I've encountered, what I've done, and the results:
         1.     iPod not displayed in Computer when plugged into USB port
         2.     no device displayed in iTunes
         3.     unable to sync music and photos from my computer to iPod
         4.     have gone through and completed all troubleshooting two times to no avail
         5.     lost all settings and apps on my iPod and can't restore and/or retrieve them (my fault for erasing the info)
         6.     can't get iTunes to recognize(?) my iPod, after plugging it into the the USB port, in order to possibly restore it to working order
If I haven't provided enough info, please let me know.
I'll appreciate any help that you can give in order to resolve these issues.
    Thank you.

  • Multiple problems with iTunes 11

    Three issues with iTunes 11:
    1)  It always asks for permission to accept incoming network connections.  Annoying.  Systems pref set to accept.
    2) Error 4002:
    3) iTunes can not connect to iPhone:

Many thanks that explains it, I didn't know that double-clicking an .itl only launches iTunes with the last library that iTunes opened. The main problem was that holding down shift while launching iTunes didn't bring up the prompt to choose the library, it just launched straight into iTunes with library 1 every time (which must have been the last library opened). However on the 6th attempt and after updating to v12, the prompt came up and I was able to select the right itl file. In actual fact I don't normally click on the itl file itself to start iTunes which was causing my confusion this time, I click on a Library 1 icon that starts a routine to overwrite the 4 main system files with the the library 1 system files, runs iTunes and then copies the files back again when iTunes exits to save any updates made to the library. Clicking on the Library 2 icon does the same but overwrites the main system files with the library 2 system files before running iTunes and similar with the Library 3 icon. I needed the choose library prompt to come up to ensure iTunes runs from the main system files that are being overwritten, not from the library files themselves.

  • Multiple problems with iTunes 12

    Problem 1:
I did a clean install of Yosemite on my mac, and updated iTunes (from 12 to 12.0.1) before I opened it. Since I have my iTunes Media folder in a different drive I used preferences to choose (really point to) the location. After clicking OK, the standard window asking about organizing folder came up and I said YES and then nothing happened. It was unable to recognize my old media folder. I haven't been able to make it work. How can I get iTunes to recognize my previously purchased music? Do I have to manually re-import everything?
    Problem 2:
I deleted my iTunes folder and restarted iTunes, and then created a new iTunes Media folder (empty) on the same drive I have my "old" iTunes Media folder (with all my music/movies/tv shows). I noticed that when I clicked on 'MyMusic' (of 'MyMovies' etc.) the covers of all my iTunes purchased albums appeared with a little cloud. Since most of my music is iTunes bought, I figured this was ok to have it this way and use my old folder as a backup for my music. But then I clicked on "Clear all History and Website Data" on SAFARI (?!?!?!) and everything disappeared (?!?!?!) and I couldn't get it back unless I deleted my iTunes folder in my startup drive and began the process all over again. How can I "reset" Safari (I know it's no longer called that) without it messing my iTunes set-up EVERY TIME? Or should I just alltogether forgo using the safari clear function?
    Problem 3:
I don't want any playlists anymore and I keep deleting them from the sidebar and they keep re-appearing. Is there a way to permanently delete them. Mind you that I have deleted all of them several times (4 or 5 times) and they don't all "come back" sometimes I get 10 playlists back, sometimes more, or sometimes less. It's really frustrating. Is there a way to permanently delete these playlists so they don't keep coming back? This happens whether or not I activate iTunes Match or not.
Since this is beyond frustrating and so surreal I don't know whether to get upset anymore. What I do know is that if these issues can't be resolved I don't think I can keep using iTunes as my primary media player, not out of anger or anything like that (it's just a piece of buggy software after all, not that big of a deal), but just because for my needs it's unusable as it is. As most of you, I've been a long term Apple user and original iTools member, so I'll pretty much weather the storm, but any assistance in resolving this issue prior to iTunes 12.0.2 would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks much,
    iTunes 12.0.1.26
    Safari 8.0
    Yosemite 10.10
MacPro (Early 2009) 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 12 GB RAM

    Regarding the album covers:
iTunes doesn't lower the resolution, but it might refuse to accept a cover at all if it's too big. A size of 1600x1600 should still be acceptable though.
To see a cover's actual resolution, click on the cover display on the sidebar to display it in a separate window, then right-click on this window and select 'actual size'.
Some of your problems might result from not applying the cover artwork to al tracks of an album. Keep in mind that every single track of an album has its individual cover and follow these steps:
    1) If your album doesn't have any artwork yet, select ALL tracks of that album, then drag & drop the cover image to the cover area in the sidebar.
    2) If the album has already some cover and you want to replace it, select ALL tracks, then right-click on them an select 'Information'. A dialog box 'Information on several tracks' (or so, I can only guess since I use the German language version of iTunes) appears and there is a cover field on the info tab - this is the first tab and also the one, that will initially display. This cover field is the location where you nedd to drag & drop your new cover image onto, in order to replace all the previous ones.
If you fail to follow the above recomendations, you might end up with a mix of different covers (or similar covers with different quality) on a single album.
    Best Regards
    Herbie

  • Multiple problems with iTunes and iPhone Music

ok... so no one tell me to check and uncheck sync all, blah blah blah... I have done everything in every combination.  I have disabled the "Show All Music" slider on my iPhone... I do not use the cloud for music, nor do I use iTunes Match.
It first started with my music app on the iPhone just darting from song to song, none of them playing except for a few random ones every now and then.
I unsynced my music from the iphone and resynced, which worked - but now I have over 1000 duplicates on my iPhone that are NOT in my iTunes.
When going back to unsync all songs, I am still left with over 1400 songs on my iphone "about" screen, yet iTunes says that there are no songs on the iPhone under "on this iPhone"
I am truly at my wits' end here.  And from the looks of it, Apple has really screwed the pooch on this one.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all???  Will update as I continue to work on this mess.

Is there a problem with iTunes Store

There are many iTunes Stores around the world running on multiple servers, so one may be having difficulties where all the others may still work. It will help if you'll tell us what country you're in and exactly what problem you're experiencing. Then any replies you get will be more likely to be applicable to your situation.

  • Does anyone have problems with iTunes movie rentals freezing in the middle of the movie?

Does anyone have problems with iTunes movie rentals freezing in the middle of the movie, requiring a force quit, which causes your rental to disappear? This has happened multiple times to me recently. Last time Apple didn't refund my money after reporting the problem. I have been using iTunes for many years but am about to give up.

Correction: I was refunded for the previous movie freeze.

  • Serious problems with iTunes

    Hello,
I updated my iTunes yesterday and my music library disappeared completely. I tried to use the back up of the library made previously and it didnt work. I then added my whole music folder to iTunes successfully except that there was around 30 of each playlist (90s music etc). This caused iTunes to run very slowly and as they wouldnt delete i had to go through and delete my library very slowly as to not make iTunes crash. I then sucessfully uninstalled iTunes and got rid of all the library back ups which may have been the cause of the mutliple playlist.
On re instalatiuon of iTunes the multiple playlists had gone and the scroll bars had gone black. I added my My Music folder and to my horror the music didnt play anymore. I have been through all the help sections for this problem and nothing seems to work. iTunes at the moment is very unstable and crashes very often. Could this be a quicktime problem? I would very much appreciate some help.
    Thankyou!
    C Vallender

This is the iTunes Music store forum, since you are having a problem with iTunes you need to post in the "using iTunes forum." Posting in the wrong forum usually delays a response to your issue.

  • Is anybody else having problems with itunes (10.6.3.25) and ipod touch (5.1.1)?

Lately I've been having a ton of problems with iTunes and my iPod Touch (4th generation). Lots of error messages such as can't connect to itunes store, incompatible application, ipod detected but not identifiable, invalid response received from device, unknown errors [mostly (0xE8000001)], problem with audio configuration, etc. I've done everything I could think of. Uninstalling iTunes (with all the components) then reinstalling with the newest version (10.6.3.25), running diagnostics and such. If it does appear (about 2% of the time) then iTunes freezes and/or it won't sync. I also try to change some info (song title, artist, artwork, etc)(when it DOES come up) and it shows up on itunes but not on my ipod. My ipod appears on my computer but not in iTunes under devices like its supposed to. I've been to all the support threads I can possibly find and NOTHING has helped. I also had the latest version for the ipod touch (5.1.1). And I've never had any issues with iTunes or my iPod touch before. I know I should probably try restoring my ipod but I absolutely do not want to do that unless I have to because i have a lot of music, apps, movies, etc I'm not able to back up. Also, I'm using a Windows 7 computer. Please Please help if you can, I am frustrated because I can't do anything.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • Problems with iTunes/ipad2  I'm trying to buy FREE apps and I'm being told my card is declined but I also have more then enough credit on my account! Anyone having this problem?

Problems with iTunes/ipad2  I'm trying to buy FREE apps and I'm being told my card is declined but I also have more then enough credit on my account! Anyone having this problem?

Part of the validation for credit cards is that they need to be registered to exactly the same name and address that you have on your iTunes account, which prepaid cards tend not to be. Do you have a proper credit card that you could use ? Or are iTunes gift cards available in your country so that you could try using them as your payment method ?
Until you have a valid payment method on your account and what you owe iTunes has been paid off then you won't be able to download any item from the store, including free apps (and updates to apps).

There certainly is a problem with itunes. I downloaded 9.2 and now it won't open. It won't recognize my iphone, either. I uninstalled it in the order recommended by the site, no joy. Deleted a configuration file, no joy. System Restore, no joy. All other software and hardware on the machine is working fine. I call AppleCare AND a local store, either they are completely clueless (which I doubt), or they have no idea how to fix it. I can't even back up my phone, or use the ipod. And since no one at Apple seems to care enough, I'll have to wait until the clamor is loud enough for them to even admit to a problem before I can use the ipod again.

Problems with itunes 8 and ipod shuffle gen 2.
I recently upgraded from itunes 7 to itunes 8 on my windows XP PC. That's when i had issues syncing my 2nd gen shuffle.
When i try to drag songs directly on it, itunes says i can't
I made a playlist and use auto fill. But when I remove it from the dock, it's either not updated, or the new songs are at the bottom of the playlist when they are supposed to be up higher. I end up having to hit auto fill twice to make it sync correctly.
    Computer Specs
    Windows XP SP3
384MB of Ram (works really good)
    USB 1.1 connection
Pentium 4 clocked at 1.285 GHZ
    IPOD Shuffle Specs
    2nd Generation
    1GB (964MB)
    Version 1.0.4
unchecked options: open itunes when ipod is attached, Sync only checked songs, convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC, Enable sound check, Limit MAX volume, enable disk use
All those are NOT checked. Sometimes i enable disk use for seeing the IPOD_Control folder, but either way it still messes up.
    Itunes Specs:
    Version 8.1.1.10

This is a well-known issue. Apple changed the internal file names used with iTunes 8, which makes the ordering on 2nd generation Shuffles behave differently. There is no good workaround, apart from moving the files with a hand-crafted AppleScript program.
Apple has been silent on the issue, so nobody knows if we'll ever have a fix for it or not.

  • Problem with itunes and iphoto after time machine restoration

After an apocalyptic type meltdown in my hardrive the other night, I now have a new one. I have restored as much as I had backed up using time machine when I turned my computer back on for the first time. However in iphoto it lists all the different albums I have, but all the photos come up as grey squares. They are definitely on the computer as you can see them in the iphoto originals folder in the finder window.
A similar problem with itunes. My itunes library is totally blank, with no songs whatsoever. However the songs are there in itunes music folder.
How can I restore everything back to normal?
    Matt

    Look at Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There are separate sections for iphoto and itunes.
It has to be so complicated because Apple made TM to do too much and be too many things to too many people.. a horse designed by a committee. It has become flakey in later editions.
If you still have the iMac you can move the files directly from the source.. you don't need to use TM backups at all.
