Multiple users on an iPad

Is it possible to have multiple users, or "safe" areas, on one iPad?  I don't really want my kids to see or play with my e-mail while I'm present.  Something aka how one can have multiple users on one's OS.
Thanks to advise.

No, the iPad is basically a single user device and it can only have one set of apps and content on it. You can set some restrictions via Settings > General > Restrictions, but that doesn't include the Mail app - though there is this work-around for the app, which is not ideal but is probably better than nothing. You could try leaving feedback and maybe in the future we'll be able to protect/hide the Mail app : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

We do. We each sign in our out with our own Apple ID's and we can share the same iPad that way.

  • Can i set multiple users for 1 ipad

I got my wife an Ipad. I want to know if I can set 2 users on it?

No. iOS is not a multi-user operating system. You can use
web-based email to keep your accounts separate and private,
but you can not have different logon environments like on
    a desktop or laptop computer.

  • IPad2 with multiple users in schools

I am a teacher in a school with close to 800 students and we are looking at getting a quantity of iPad2 to supplement our teaching and learning. Wanting some advice to pass onto IT re having multiple users using individual iPad, having individuals using own log in onto school wifi network, syncing apps across quantiy of iPads (roughly 40 units at a time) and if I require multiple iTunes accounts to do this. I am aware that once the iPad is turned off, the user is logged out and requires password to log onto wifi network once more. Thanking you all in advance.

    Hi,
Schema level Import: Schema level imports are specified by "SCHEMAS=schema1, schema2, . . . schemaN). As you might guess, the SCHEMAS syntax imports the specified schemas from the expdp dump file.
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_data_pump_impdp_import_modes.htm
If you want to export objects of multiple schemas you can specify the following command
    $expdp scott/tiger DIRECTORY=data_pump_dir DUMPFILE=scott_schema.dmp
    SCHEMAS=SCOTT,HR,ALI

  • Multiple users with ios5?

With iOS 5, Is it now possible to have multiple users for one iPad?

This seems very odd to me. New iPad 2 owner and for all the talk of a "no pc era" coming you would think the iPad iOS would build a feature for this. My Fiancé and I own iPhones and just got an iPad together, would be really nice if we could both have our data on the iPad.

  • How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)?

How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)? Currently each of us has our own iTunes account, so I've made an "all office" Apple ID. However, I can't seem to get two different accounts (my personal and the office) to work on my machine. Even when I login as "the office", my personal library is still showing. Additionally, when I try to setup with a first-time use in iTunes, I get an error that I don't meet the minimum age requirement - no matter what birthdate I enter!

The library exists regardless of which user is logged in.
The only way around that is to create different user accounts on the computer.
There is no way to have 20 unique iTunes users access a shared iTunes under a single login on the computer.

The iPad mini is basically a one user device. There are no Accounts. You can set up restrictions so that only you can do certain things.

  • Multiple user account on a iPad

Is it possible or is it a futur feature to have multiple user account on a iPad?
I know Apple Configurator can make multiple user on a device but it's not built in iOS and you have to plug the iPad to reset the iPad.
    Thanks.

It's not possible at the moment, an iPad is basically a single user device with one set of apps and content : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
These are user-to-user forums, whether it will be possible in the future nobody on here will know.

  • Using Configurator to share two iPads with multiple users

I work in an office where several people want to share two iPads. We require individuals to connect to our secure wireless network with their own username and password. Each user also wants to set up the iPad to connect to their own Exchange account. Each person will also use their own Apple iTunes store ID and download their own apps.
If I understand the differences between the two applications, Apple Configurator would be the appropriate tool to manage this and not the iPhone Configuration Utility. If I understand how Configurator works, I set up the iPad to connect to Jane's email and to connect to the Apple Store and our wireless using Jane's credentials. Then I back up that profile using Configurator. Next I configure the same device to connect to Jim's email and to connect to the Apple Store and our wireless using Jim's credentials. Then Jim backs up the device to his profile using Configurator.
Now whenever Jane uses the iPad, she brings it back and plugs it into our Mac to backup her profile changes (her apps, her home wireless network settings, etc.). Jim sits down and "Checks out" the iPad to himself which loads his previously backed up profile. If Jane still has the laptop checked out, Jim can plug in the second iPad and load his profile.
Is this how it works? It seems like Configurator can do this, but not the Configuration Utility (which means you need a Mac running Lion to use Configurator).
    Thank you,
    Sean

Thanks gyrhead. Those are some of the better articles I've seen on using Configurator. One of our computer lab managers has been playing with it (I work in the IT department for a university). Basically I can see us using it to manage iOS devices we provide for use in the labs or on a short-term checkout basis, but I don't see Configurator as being a solution for the departments we support who want to share iPads between users. Even if a department has a Mac that can run configurator (many do not), I think it will lead to some bigger support and training issues that we do not have the resources to manage.
For now we are going to tell our faculty and staff departments that iPads and other iOS devices are meant to be personal devices and are not meant to be easily shared. Until Apple comes up with an easy way to login to different profiles on the device (I have also seen some third party products in development... like this one: http://nowsci.com/userprofiles/) we are going to recommend that departments purchase an iPad for any staff who needs it. If they really want to share one iPad among multiple users, they can set up a single Apple/iTunes account for the device tied to a purchasing card, and then just use Safari for checking email (instead of configuring everything for individuals). Of course if they really want to it is not a big deal to delete your email/calendar settings and then add them each time you use the device, but if it wasn't my own device I would just use Safari to check my email and calendar over the Web.

  • IPad / iOS - Multiple User Accounts

I (and countless others) would love it, if the iPad could set up multiple user accounts, just like the Mac OS; multiple user and guest accounts in iOS, is such an obvious need.
The iPad is so meant for multiple users in a household, guests etc. I don't want to hand someone, a friend or anyone my iPad with access to all my email, pictures, bank info, game scores, etc., etc. when they just want to surf the web or DJ some music from my music library on the home network.
Please, please Apple, add multiple user accounts to the iPad, just like the native Mac OS.
While you're at it, add this to the iPhone—sometimes I want to let a friend or relative play games or whatever on a roadtrip, withouth them digging through my personal info, a guest account with specified app access and premissions would resolve this.
Apple, I know you're trying to sell devices, but look back to see why you implemented this in the Mac OS to discover why you'd do it for portable devices too, it's a no-brainier.
    Thanks!!

Nobody from Apple here. Just other users like yourself.
You are not the first person to ask for this and I'm sure you will not be the last. But, if you really want to get the message across... Try here.

  • HT4847 Can I have multiple users's family devices backed up to the cloud e.g. 2 iPhones and 2 iPads under the same iTunes account

Just got a second iPad for the home.
Can I have multiple users's family devices backed up to the cloud e.g. 2 iPhones and 2 iPads under the same iTunes account?

Yes, but it's not usually recommended to share an iCloud account within a family.  If you do, any data you sync with iCloud will be merged and you, for example, will end up with each other's contacts and calendars on your devices.  Also, any action taken on one device (such as adding or deleting a contact) will be replicated on the other devices.  You will also all be sharing the same 5GB of free storage for all your data and device backups.
Normally it's best to use separate iCloud accounts for each person's devices.  This will keep your data separated, and allow each person to have their own free 5GB of storage.  You can continue to share the same iTunes ID within the family; the ID you use for iCloud does not need to be the same as the one your use for iTunes purchasing.  (Each person should also use a separate ID on their devices for iMessage and FaceTime to avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.)
