Multitasking gestures disabled in iOS 8?

I find that the 4 or 5 finger pinch no longer closes an app window on my iPad Air under iOS 8. Bug? Or did Apple change gestures?
Thanks

I too was experiencing this bug in 8.0 on my iPad 4 and hoping it would be corrected in 8.0.2. However, only a few hours after updating to 8.0.2 I lost the function again and had to toggle it off and on to restore it. I know Apple knows about this because I heard it mentioned on a Macworld podcast. I'm beginning to wonder if all of the beta testers were withholding information. This is not the case of an app not being fully ios 8 ready. It happens everywhere. Apple? Make it happen in 8.0.3!

  • Has anyone else noticed this bug with multitasking gestures on iOS 5?

I recently updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5 and have just noticed this bug with multitasking gestures.
If you're currently in an app and use the four-finger swipe up to open the app switcher, and then subsequently close another app that's open in the background from the switcher, the app doesn't seem to fully close.  What I mean is that if you now use the four-finger swipe right/left to switch apps, when you get to the place where that app you closed was, it's still open, and after you view it, it pops back into the app switcher.  It seems like the multitasking gestures feature isn't recognizing that you've closed the app and that it should skip it from now on.
If you do the above steps again, but this time after you close the app from the switcher, use the five-finger pinch to go back to the home screen, it seems to clear the "cache" being used by the the gestures feature.  Now if you go back into any app and swipe left to right, the closed app won't load up anymore (which is how it should correctly work).
Has anyone else noticed this, or can anyone else reproduce the bug as I described?  I'd appreciate it if an Apple employee could confirm that this is a bug in iOS 5 and not just something wrong on my end.  Thanks in advance.

After the time spent and attention to detail in replicating this fault, I do think that you should email your findings to Nokia Care to be found on:
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222231
This is after all a discussion forum and others may find the same bug, but until it is logged at Nokia there is little chance of future modification if required!
Done already. They may of course have corrected this in the 11.x firmware currently being rolled out but as I don't yet have access to it I can't say.

  • IPad mini multitasking gestures ios diagnostic appears

I recently sent an ios diagnostic report to Apple, then I updated from ios 7.1 to 7.1.1, after that when using multitasking gestures, ios diagnostic window keeps appearing.
How do I turn it off?? Thanks guys

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • IOS 6.1.2 issue iPad multitasking gestures.

So I downloaded IOS 6.1.2 on my Ipad and now it won't let me do some multitask gestures.  I can only get pull up the bottom menu, i can't pinch to close an app nor can I swipe the screen to move to the previous app.  Any ideas about what is going on? is it the software?

OK. Then you do know how to do the gestures, just like to make sure.
Try this. Turn off Multitasking gestures in the settings, reboot the iPad, turn Multitasking gestures on again and see if they will work for you then.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • IOS 8.1 (Latest) and multitasking gestures failing

After the first  upgrade to  iOS 8  the multitasking gestures is constantly failing to work. Its still not working with iOS 8.1. I have to constantly put it on and off ro reacts aye the function In my iPad Air.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks,

Other than resetting all settings - and that is a crap shoot - it is something that Apple has to fix. Many of us are experiencing the same thing, I am now going on about a week of not having to toggle the setting off and on and that's great progress for my iPad. My point is that I don't think there is anything that you can do. It's on Apple now to fix it.

  • Multitasking Gesture on iOS 7

Do iOS 7 Have Multitasking Gesture on iPad ? Anyone ? Who Have iOS 7 Betas ?
I Am Very Scared to Broke my Home Button if iOS 7 Does not Support Multitasking Gesture. Please Anyone can Answer ?

Apple has announced that iOS 7 will be available in the fall. Once it is released post your question again and one of the users here should be able to help you. Right now iOS 7 is in Beta form and discussion of Beta software is prohibited by the Terms of Use of this forum.

  • Anyone else experience iOS 8 iPad issues with multitasking gestures?

I've had several instances where the multitasking gestures do not respond on my iPad mini.  When using the 4-finger swipe up (equivelent to double click the home button), instead of entering the multitasking view, the visible app senses me trying to scroll.  I tried this gesture from the Settings app in landscape mode and both sides of the app scrolled.  Restarting my iPad fixes this issue temporarilly.
On another occasion, while trying to switch between apps by swiping left to right with 4 fingers, SpringBoard crashed and restarted.
Anyone else seeing these kinds of issues?  How best to report to Apple?

Yes, I have this on an iPad Air after updating to IOS 8. The pinch option seems to randomly quit working. It you go to Settings and turn off Multitasking Gestures, leave Settings, and go back in to Settings and re-enable Multitasking Gestures it works again for a while but will then randomly quit again. It seems like it is only the pinch option that quits working.
I have found that when I have the problem I can pull down the Notification screen, or pull up the settings screen using the one finger swipe up or swipe down option and then the pinch options works again. Since I found this circumvention and don't have to toggle the setting it is not as annoying, but I still wind up trying to pinch multiple times before I realize it has quit working so I agree this should be fixed soon.

  • Why there's no multitasking gesture in IOS5 for Ipad 1?

Why there's no multitasking gesture in IOS5 for Ipad 1?
    Why?
This's discrimination for iPad 1 users!
    Why disable it?
I think your strategy will make many of Apple users dispointed!
I hope to add multitasking gesture to next updata or fix !

iOS 5.1.1 will not give the iPad 1 the full suite of multitouch gestures. The hardware won't support those. And you responded to a post that's almost two years old.
    Regards.

  • Multitasking Gestures Missing from iPad 1

Hi, I got two questions regarding multitasking on ios 5:
    1. I originally enabled multitasking gestures in iOS 4.3 via XCode (i didn't jailbreak my idevices), and it works perfectly for me on my first generation iPad, now however, after upgrading to iOS 5, i found apple has disabled this function from iPad 1 user, but only allow iPad 2 user to enjoy it.
So I'd like to ask, if i plug my iPad into XCode with iOS 5 on it, can I reactivate this function?
    2. I noticed that there is a function new in iOS 5 that may replace the the multitasking gestures (i just hate to use the physical home button), it's called assistive touch, and by enabling it it will have a floating menu down at the lower right corner of your screen, which is a bit annoying. I saw in Settings --> General --> Accessibility --> AssistiveTouch, there is an option called Always Show Menu, but this option is greyed out, there is no way for me to change this option, so how can i enable this option and hide the assistive touch menu when it is not needed?
    Thanks in advance!

Are you reffering to that little white point on the right corner that will not disapear ?  One question: can you use the assistive touch to show multitasking bar ? if so, how?  I still have 4.3.5 with gestures enabled and I'm happy that way but.... at some point all apps from appstor will start to require IOS5 .... I will probably be forced to upgrade to IOS5 at some point

  • Now that iPad has multitasking gestures, why don't they just add a gesture for going back and forward in safari?

Now that iPad has multitasking gestures, why don't they just add a gesture for going back and forward in safari? Just like in a mac, with the multitouch gestures. The osx Lion got the launchpad idea from the ios, so why don't the ios gets something from osx?

Send them feedback and make the suggesion. We're just fellow users here, we have zero control over anything Apple does.

  • Why no multitasking gestures for iphone in ios5?

I was just reading the iOS 5 features list and noticed that multitasking gestures would be integrated into the new update, but it seemed to indicate it will only available on the iPad and not the iPhone!
Is this true and if so what is the reason?
On one hand I might assume it's hardware based and that the my iPhone 4 is not physically able to distinguish more than 2 touch points (rendering 4/5 finger gestures useless), but while I'm not fully familiar with the tech behind capacitance screens I would have thought the screen would detect as many points of contact as there actually are and it would be the software/firmware which would decide how to interpret these signals?
Or maybe apple have decided screen real estate is a limiting factor on the iPhone, though I don’t see why?
Anyway perhaps someone out there more knowledgeable on the subject can enlighten me!?

Anyway perhaps someone out there more knowledgeable on the subject can enlighten me!?
Even if there was, iOS 5 is in beta and only available to registered developers under a non-disclosure agreement, meaning they cannot discuss the beta outside of Apple's private developer forums.
Apple have not made any public announcements as to why multitasking gestures are only on iPad. Speculation is against the Terms of Use of these forums.
iPhone's can detect at least 10 touch points, so it's not that.

  • Why don't first-gen iPad users deserve Multitasking Gestures???!!!

    Apple,
As one of the early adopters of iPad, I feel betrayed that I am left out on such an important feature of Multitasking Gestures in the new iOS 5 update!!!
Why???? What's the good reason for denying us the convenience of this feature? If for any reason the gestures might slow down iPad1 due to its inferior hardware capabilities, couldn't you trust the users to turn it off instead of taking that out of our hands completely?
It's impossible for you not to understand that iPad users want and like the gestures. And there is no excuse for not providing it to all iPad users.
    Huge disappointment!!!!

I Suppose you are right in that sense, but what they can control the 6 plus' signature on the App Store and giving it access to the iPad version of applications.
Also the gestures and button functions of iOS are controlled by Apple...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I've grown to love the 6 Plus, I just wish I could make more use of its bigger size...

  • 8.1 Bugs - Multitasking Gestures & Safari

Installed 8.1 and multitasking gestures will cease to function at random. FIX: Control settings, turn them off and then back on again. But, note that in time, it will stop functions again, so repeat the process. Zero points for Apple here.
Safari is a browser gone wild. Video gets choppy now at times. No, it is not my connection. I had an older iPad running side by side on same video, same website. The ipad running 7.1 played the same video without a hitch. Also, when using the iPad keypad, weird things happen in safari. The keyboard will close for no reason whatsoever, it will type all caps when caps lock is not engaged, it will scroll the text area out of view so you cannot see what you are typing. Same website, same text box, different iPad running 7.1 functions properly. Zero points for Apple.
CONCLUSION: Seems like Apple hired a new Development Director who has dropped the ball and is leading Apple into a major losing streak. As the umpire (consumer) I call them as I see them. Apple, I think you need to hire a new manager before you become proud honorary recipients of a 1st place trophy on The Wall of Shame. Sorry, but when you start putting out technology that is glitchy and scratchy, then maybe you should consider the cartoon business.
