Muse Freezes - Program Conflicts?

Hi,
This is partially a question, but also a story about an issue I had and how I came across a solution in case anyone should happen to be in a similar situation:
I'm running the latest version of Muse with the latest version of AIR on Windows 8.1, and everything had been working fine with it until this morning. I wasn't sure what might have been causing the problem, but the problem was that I was unable to place any kind of image, regardless of file type. When I clicked on the "Place" or "Place Photoshop Button" commands, Muse would just freeze and become unresponsive, yet the program window wouldn't fade (as would be typical with an unresponsive program in Windows), and I received no error message within Muse. When I click "Save As," the Save window starts to appear and then freezes halfway through loading (this fades and gives the prompt that Muse is not responding). I tried uninstalling AIR, and installing version 3.9, but this didn't work. I tried uninstalling the Lenovo Solution Center, which also requires AIR to run (and seemingly caused no issues with Muse previously)...no luck. Uninstalling and reinstalling Muse gave me no success. It had been a few days since I had used the program last (it was working fine this past Sunday). The only other programs I had installed between then and now were the EFI Fiery tools for my laptop to be able to use one of the printers at my job, and the latest Photoshop 14.2.1 update that was available this morning. I was able to save existing files so long as I did not press "Save As," and I could drag and drop images onto the website workspace, but this was of little help when trying to put in a PSD button. The problem came up regardless of whether I was working on an existing Muse project or starting a new file.
When I uninstalled the EFI Fiery tools and associated programs, removed the office Fiery printer from my printer list (it's a Xerox Color 560), restarted my computer, and started Muse, everything worked properly again with no issues. There must have been some sort of conflict between Muse and the Fiery tools or the printer, but I can't fathom what that could possibly be. I can live without having the tools on my laptop, since they're also on my workstation at the office, but it was purely a matter of convenience, since there are some things I'll work on at home and then send to print from the laptop.
Is this a known conflict, and are there any other program conflicts with Muse that we should be aware of?

I think I've isolated the problem to text editing: Muse freezes when editing text. I can perform other functions, such as placing graphics, but when I try the use the text tool, Muse freezes.

InDesign freezes (program is not responding)

Two problems, both causing IDCS3 to freeze and "program is not responding" message:
Problem 1. Using Adobe-Single-Line Composer; keeps to control widows and orphans set to 1 line (start), 2 lines (end): ID often freezes when importing Word docs containing formatted headings and text only (file sizes up to 350Kb). Tried saving as rtf, same problem. I would expect ID to leave short pages when it's unable to resolve widows and orphans using specified keeps. If file imports OK, same problem occurs when text edits affect H&J on subsequent pages. Only solution seems to be to deselect keep options and manually check and adjust headings, widows and orphans. NB. Adobe Paragraph Composer gives unacceptable results for the bookwork I do.
Problem 2. Same conditions as problem 1: entering forced line break after en or em dash causes ID to freeze "program is not responding" message.
Anybody any suggestions as to the causes or any solutions?

If the Task manager isn't showing ID as non-responsive, I suspect that you are opening a second file with some condition that is triggering a dialog (missing/modified links, missing fonts, profile conflicts) and that the dialog is being drawn off screen or behind other windows, and ID is waiting for you to respond.
How many monitors are you using? This is not an uncommon problem for multiple monitor users, particularly when the monitors are not run at native resolution, but is by no means limited to that scenario. These forums are full of potential ways to deal with that -- try searching for "off screen," "off-screen" or offscreen for starters.

Muse freezes after launch Mac OS

I'm using Mac OS Mavericks. It worked yesterday before shut down. Today, when I launched my Muse site, Muse freezes after the Site Map is displayed when I try to edit text on a page. I searched the forums and there was a similar problem last year, but I'm using the current version. I tried disconnecting the network, disabling Typekit, renaming the preferences folder. But, these did not work. Suggestions please. Thanks.

Grey Background of Arcobat program conflicts with Grey PDFs

I have a client who use a grey background & border on their ads. This grey background is almost exactly the same colour as the background colour of Adobe Acrobat Professional - so when I view pdf's I cannot see where the pdf page ends or starts as it merges with the background colour of the Adobe Acrobat Professional program.
In previous versions of Adobe Acrobat Professional the page had a black drop shadow and the program grey was lighter so this was not an issue.

Muse freezes when attempting to Export to HTML...

Hello,
I'm currently working on a photographer's website, with over 1000 pages. Every time I try and export to html the program freezes when at about 78% completed exporting. It also happens when I try to publish to the businesscatalyst temporary site.
Anyone know, or have a guess at the problem?

At ~1.5Gb and 978 pages, yours is the largest .muse file I've seen to date.
Muse is currently not a great tool for the site you're creating. The shear size of your site is beyond what Muse can work with in a single .muse file.
Your site is best suited to a Content Management System where a small set of template pages are married with a database of items, products, or in your case, animal species. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any Content Management Systems that provide a no coding WYSIWYG solution to website creation. I'm confident Muse will eventually grow to enable database-drive website creation without coding, but we're not there yet.
If using a CMS and a developer and/or coding a site is not an option, then you could get to the end result I think you're looking for with the current Muse, but it will be labor intensive to create and maintain.
The basic idea would be to view your website as a set of smaller microsites (all hosted under the same domain name yourbiz.com). Each microsite would be uploaded to a separate directory/folder on your hosting. Perhaps there would be a folder (and thus a .muse file) for birds-a-d and another for birds-e-h, etc. You would manually create URL hyperlinks to link from a top-level microsite with the home page and major category navigation pages to specific pages within the microsites. And manually create URL links from the microsites back to the top-level microsite.
Strictly speaking there is no specific page count, image count or other complexity limit within Muse. But as the total size and complexity of a .muse file increases, the performance of Muse will degrade. Targeting a page count of 50-100 pages per .muse file (assuming low to moderate complexity per page, as you currently have) should provide reasonable performance and room for growth in each .muse file.
We're actively working on major changes that will eliminate some of the memory constraints Muse currently has and enable us to take alternative approaches to improving performance of large sites. But it will be some time before the fruits of our labors result in Muse being the best tool for creating and maintaining a website like yours.

Muse keeps saving 'conflicted copies'. Why?

Hello, I can't work out what 'conflicted copies' are, and why is muse creating them in my folders? They appear to be older versions of the website I'm working on, but during the process of saving, I have had no warning that there will be a separate 'conflicted copy' saved...so where could they be arising from please?
When I upload to my FTP host, I see that these conflicted copies are invloved somehow..I am thinking I should delete them so that the ftp can just work with the latest muse file that I am happy with

to confirm. I have only one laptop, am not sharing the work with any other person, am only using one copy of muse or illustrator and there is only one copy of the muse and illustrator programs in my adobe program files.

Muse freezing, hanging today

Something is very wrong with Muse (CC2014.2.0.569) today. On both of my workstations it loads slow, hangs, freezes and will not connect to FTP. The program worked perfectly Friday October 24th. Looking at the posts from earlier this afternoon it seems to be an issue with other users as well.

Thanks for the reply. I have enjoyed using and stretching MUSE since the first beta releases. Today was unique and not in a good way.
Over several attempts and hours MUSE continued the slow page load, FTP behaviors and hangs. It timed out, it said the FTP password was incorrect, it froze. Twice it got to 1% on the FTP upload but brought up a statement that it could not resolve a muse_php_test.html or muse_php_test.php function. I gave up and continued my workday projects that were DW-based.
So WHERE is this update? It is not in the 'updates' menu, at least not as of this writing.

Sluggish timeline and glitching/freezing program monitor in Premiere Pro CC 8.1

Hi all,
I've recently switched from CS6 to the 2014 Adobe CC due to a student license expiring. I'm also somewhat new to r3d workflow so chances are I may be doing something wrong.
I've worked on one other project with a mix of r3d and DSLR footage in CS6, but this is my first time cutting with red footage in Premiere CC.
*Apologies in advance for the novel, but I figured I'd be as thorough as possible to hopefully help get this issue resolved for myself any anyone else who's experiencing this.*
I'm cutting a 9:30 "party mix" in a music video style edit. So far I've had several (seemingly random) issues and glitches, that have been making my life exceptionally difficult and this 10/30 deadline exceptionally scary.
I'm working with content that we captured using exclusively RED Epic Dragon, and Epic Mysterium cameras. We recorded with several different frame rates, with varying resolution, compression, and aspect ratios. Project was set in-camera to 23.976.
Issue #1
I've created a nearly two hour, organized roll of sub-clip selects in a RED R3D 2K 23.976 16x9 timeline, in which i'll use to browse my raw media when sequencing on a timeline stacked directly below.
Often times when pulling clips from one timeline down to the other, the over-all responsiveness of the program will become ultra sluggish. Causing a clip (that's being dragged/placed) to lag heavily, maybe a couple seconds behind my cursor. This issue will often resolve itself after maybe 5 minutes or so, but makes fluid sequencing rather difficult.
Issue #2
The other issue I'm having is a glitchy or completely unresponsive program monitor. Again this issue appears to be totally random, and seems to happen most when I'm deep into some really intense sequencing/ clip arrangement, and scrubbing quickly.
Usually a portion of a single clip (or sometimes a couple clips) will freeze up in the program monitor while I'm scrubbing over them on the timeline. This will sometimes cause them to freeze all together during playback as well as cause surrounding clips to lag a bit (maybe 4-8fps).
I'll scrub back over the problem area and sometimes get a solid green bar halfway through my image, usually right before the program monitor just reads solid black throughout the entire timeline. This issue is temporarily resolved by restarting the program (about every 15-30 minutes).
Issue #3
As I'm scrubbing I'll also experience heavy glitching with both my image and the program monitor GUI itself. However, this issue typically wont affect playback.

I know the timeline is un-rendered in this sample, (but this issue happens either way).
Two painstaking weeks later, I've finally completed the first pass.
Working on revisions now, and ultimately I'd like to copy paste the sequence into a 4K timeline for before After Effects work and export.
I tried pulling it into a 4K timeline (with playback set to 1/8 res) and the issues stated above got 10x worse.
Sticking to the 2K timeline for now (with playback at 1/4 res)
P.S. I'm also cutting a much simpler corporate project with 5DMKIII footage and having no real issues.

Freshly installed Windows 7 Professional SP1 PC Desktop

So it seems to be behaving slightly better in "Software Only"
Though slightly less frequently, I'm still running into the issues stated above, mostly issue #2.
I also have a new problem to add to this thread as I'm starting to pull clips into After Effects.
First being that (again, seemingly random) dynamic-linked clips decide not to show up on the timeline in AE, and then seem to vanish from the program monitor in Premiere as well.
As you can see in the screenshots attached- After Effects see's the media itself from which the clip came from, however it won't show up in the monitor.
I'm also having issues where I'll render the Premiere project with the dynamic linked clips that DO work, and then as soon as I restart the program, those previews are gone and I have to re-render the the AE Linked comps.

Auto Stack Freezes Program

I have a Dual 2.5Ghz G5 with 7GB ram and a Nvidia 6800 Ultra video card - well over the recommended specs in everyway. I am having issues with Autostack being slow (hours) and/or hanging the program. I have tried importing 6900 medium sized jpegs (shot with a Nikon D2h) from a folder containing a older projects I am doing, which seems like it should be with within the capablities of the program with the hardware I am using. I will then select auto stack, and can move the slider slightly to adjust the time interval before the program gives me the spinning beachball, which it will then spend hours trying to process or will then freeze the program indefinitely (I let it go for 11 hours once) at which time I have to force quit it.
I then tried it with a ancient project with jpegs from a Nikon Coolpix 950 which produced a averagew file size of less than a 1 Mb. I Auto-stacked 650 photos but still had the beach ball and it took about 10 minutes to complete- much longer than I expected with such small files.
I have not tried RAW files yet.
I hope somene has a answer on how I can possibly alleviate the problem, the auto stack is one of my favorite features so far when I can get it to work.
Even with this problem I can say this program is awesome. It's very power hungry, but truly unlike anything I have used and a excellent 1.0 effort.

Maybe this is why in the training DVD supplied with Aperture Apple recommends using the auto stack feature at the time of import from memory card or camera. There's a slider at the bottom of the import page which, if memory serves me correctly, does the auto stack command. This way you'll be stacking only say 100 raw images from a 1gb card and the numbers won't get too taxing.
Still, this should be a fairly simple fix for Apple to sort out so here's hoping they get on the case sharpish! I think the auto stack HUD is loading each individual image instead of just working with the attached data.

Trying to edit contacts freezes program

I installed PSE8 a few weeks ago and was having a problem sending emails. I've since changed my internet provider and have a new email address and email provider, gmail (not by choice). I went back to PSE8 and tried to edit my contacts but every time I hit the icon the whole program freezes. Going into the edit has the same effect. I was using PSE2 but finally upgraded. PSE2 did not have a dedicated email program but relied on Adobe Photoshop Album 2 which came in the package. Therefore, I did not import any contacts from other programs. I've read NUMEROUS complaints on this forum regarding the freeze problem but really saw no solutions. How can you delete the contacts if the program freezes? I tried a search for "contacts.XML" but came up empty. Besides, I'm not sure I really understand that procedure. Can anybody provide a reasonably simple way to rectify this? Had Adobe addressed the issue at all? It would seem they should provide some help.

This problem is usually caused by the presence of a version of Contacts.xml from a previous version (which later versions can't handle) or by a corrupted Contacts.xml (PSE frequently corrupts its own files). So search your entire C drive for all instances of Contacts.xml and delete them. Make sure you've configured Windows Explorer to show hidden files:

Given that you had PSA, there is most likely a Contacts.xml for it laying around somewhere as well as the Contacts.xml for PSE 8.
Had Adobe addressed the issue at all? It would seem they should provide some help.
This problem (or problems) has been around since at least PSE 6. Adobe is putting almost no effort into fixing bugs in PSE. There is a tech note for PSE 6 about the issue:

Dial-up connection freezes programs

I am having a strange problem. :? When I am connected with my dial-up modem, some programs won't start (e.g. kuickshow) or will freeze when I try to open a dialog window such as open/save file (e.g. kedit, kdiff3, firefox). If I am not connected or if I am connected with my network card, everything works fine. I think the problem started a few weeks ago when there was problems with firefox.
I am using kppp, KDE 3.3.2, the ltmodem drivers and the stock kernel 2.6.10
Any idea about what might be the problem?

Well... Yesterday, I notice that if my network is running
/etc/rc.d/network start
, everything is fine. However if I stop it,
etc/rc.d/network stop
I have the same problem when my dial-up connection is running. :? I think that it is a problem with my network setup in rc.conf. A month ago or so, I changed my network setting from dhcp to static. It might be related to my problem. I still need to check that out.

Copying frames between fla's freezes program

Flash newb. Trying to make a news flash ad banner. I have constructed the rectangle now I need to make the cube, hopefully with the same timing of animations and tweens. I have made this first .fla AS 2.0, player 6 and imported a large number of elements directly from Illustrator so that I have a number of folders in my lib such as "flash0.ai_1"
First fla is fine. When I select a layer and copy frames and paste them into a fla.2 with same settings I experience almost a complete freeze of the program. The new pasted frames do not show up. I have to minimize and restore the program to see the pasted tween/symbol/frames. Then whichever fla I'm in, I cannot select or do anything - or rather I am selecting things, it's just not showing me doing anything. I have to min/restore to see anything that I've done.
I assume that in copying a tweened symbol based off a simple/complex .ai import there is some issue?
I'd just as soon not have to build this thing from scratch when I already have a fine fla ready to be resized. Any suggestions? Lord have I tried to avoid this program lo these many years.

Muse freezes on export

Hi I am trying to export as an html file, or preview the site/page but the export process freezes around 30%. I've found this thread- http://forums.adobe.com/message/5673741#5673741 - which indicates that permissions to the tk1 and tk2 folders needs to open, which I do, however it then reverts back to being read only.
I've also tried uploading to business catalyst however the progress bar stops at 60% - optimising assets - however i have already done this through photoshop.
can you suggest any other solutions?

Do you have this problem exporting any muse site, or is it just one particular site? If it's just one site, send the .muse file to [email protected] along with a link to this topic so we can investigate.
If your file is > 20MB, use a filesharing service like SendThisFile, DropBox, or Adobe SendNow.

Photoshop elements 5 batch process freeze program

Starting a batch process in adobe photoshop elements 5 (auto colour, reducing picture size, saving the changed picture in the same directory but with additional extension to the filename) the program starts to open the first picture and then it is freezing. So far as I can see all other functions a working properly.
Can some one help me.

try with just 1 image and see. Also make settings one by one i.e. in the incremental fashion. Also please explain if there is any specific meaning of "but with additional extension to the filename..".
