Music library and Music.app problems
Hi, recently I've update to 5.0.1 from 4.1 (clean restore of an iPhone 4). I'm having issues with the music library of the iPhone. I have the "manually manage music" option selected so I can change information of the songs (like the title for example) directly in the iPhone (througth iTunes). But when I try to change the Album in the info tab of the song that is on my iPhone, it doesn't change. I can see the new album on iTunes on my iPhone tab, but in the iPhone, in the music.app, I only see the older album.
I have been reading around here and I've noticed that the music.app in iOS 5 has certain bugs, could this be one of them?
I don't want to restore because I've been days configuring my phone and it's not that big deal...
Also I've noticed, on my girlfriend's iPhone 3G with iOS 3.1.3, with the same options, when I change the album name, on the iPod.app I see: updating library, please wait... or something like that, like the inside music library is being refresh. But it's like I'm unable to do that now. Could be because of the new sync method that allow you to use the phone while syncing?

Actually the album change worked for a second. I changed one song, and iTunes said "wait while preparing for sync" for a while. Then the text dessapeared, and the album was changed on my music.app. And when I tried to change the other songs, the same text was on iTunes but this time only for something like 3 seconds, with no effect for the iPhone, of course.
What can I do to sync the information correctly?

Just wondering if the issues that have been bothering me for some time and with multiple recent iOS and iTunes versions are going to get fixed in the future?
Adding or removing music manually or automatically between iTunes and the iOS has resulted in the corruption of the music library on the iOS device several times and the solution to fix the problem is always to empty the device and to start over. For example today I noticed that the album art had disappeared from my music (a known issue) and I searched the forums for a solution. Well the solution is to empty all of the music from the device and upload it back again and the album art will be back. Great! Except the music got deleted and still the space in use is showing "other usage" for the exact size of my deleted music library. If I try to add some music it adds to the space of the mysterious occupied space and the device is soon full. Time to start from scratch again. The syncing is broken and the software is buggy and I'd like it to work flawlessly instead of starting from scratch every time I'm making any minor changes to my music library. I think the reliability of the software and the basic functions is more important than the ability for the phone to ring in the computer whenever I get a call. Which is pretty amazing in someone else's opinion I'm sure.
Oh yes and the iPad is not uploading updated apps to the iTunes automatically which it did some software versions ago (a known issue). This is annoying.Schpoiler,
I had the very same problem with you. I think the main reason for this happening is purchasing and downloading content with your phone. I don't know how it happens though, this seems the problem with me.
What I did is, I basically erased all content and settings from my iPhone and used my backup in my mac to install everything back again. After that, the "other usage" got really small in size and as I deleted all the songs by using syncing, I saw that music occupied no space in my phone. Then, I synchronized my music back again and now everything works just fine. -

On a new laptop I set up my iTunes account. My music library shows 801 songs while my iPhone shows 897 songs. How do I get the other 96 songs to show up in my music library? I already tried the 'transfer songs from iPhone' option. Please help!
That warning is an indication that the phone has either never been synced with the computer/iTunes library you are attempting to sync with, or has synced with another computer/iTunes library. Your phone is designed to only sync with a single computer/iTunes library. When you attempt to sync with another one iTunes will first delete all iTunes media from your phone and then replace it with the media in the library you are attempting to sync with. This can't be changed. When you sync all music will be deleted from your phone and only the music in the library you are syncing with will be transferred back to your phone. In your case, you would lose the 96 songs.
Your only option is to use 3rd party software to transfer the 96 songs to your library before you sync so they will be synced back to your phone along with your other music. If you think the songs may have been purchased from the iTunes store you can transfer your purchases before syncing by:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes and go to preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Connect your phone, right-click on the name of your phone on the left side of iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
When done, click Apply to sync your phone.
Go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing. -
How do I get my songs to music library and apps to show in Itunes
Yesterday I had to do a complete fresh install of iTune 10.3.1.55 on my windows 7 64bit machine. Previsouly to performing the fresh install I had my complete music library and iphone apps located on my network storage device drive as follows:

In the itunes perferences, advance tab I have my itunes music folder the same as it was before the clean install

What do I have to do now in order that all my music libaray and iphone apps display again in iTunes.
Additionally how do I get my old playlist display back in the PLAYLIST on itunes.
Once I get them back into itunes will I be able to syn back to my iphone as I had to reset my iphone 3GS back to the default factory setting and need to reinstall my iphone apps and playlists back on the iphone.

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week. Help! Thanks.
Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.

When transferring music library and apps to my new I Pad I think I clicked Export Library instead of synching. Now my music library is virtually empty - mostly CDs downloaded, a few apps for the I Pad and apps for the I pod touch too. Can I move these back?
weird very weird. today i did this again today after already being unsuccessful earlier. exactly the same thing as i have done before, exactly. didn't try to import. didn't say damaged library, copied everything in including date. have tried it about 10 times no luck. today it just worked.

I have downloaded to new version of itunes in the past and lost all of my music. How do I successfully complete the download of teh new version of itunes, without deleting my current music library and apps?
Open itunes, click Itunes>Check for updates.

i purchased a song on my Ipod Touch 4 GEN. and i listened to it not 5 mins before i synced it with Itunes...then i looked in my Ipod music library and itunes library...GONE. but when i go to download it, like with Apps when if you have purchased an app and it get's deleted...you can have it back for FREE
and i tryed that with this song...and it says that " you have already purchased this song, would you like to buy it again?" but it wont let me get it again for free even tho i have bought it before...is there a way i can get it back with out having to pay??

As it should have been transferred to your computer when you synced, you can contact itunes support and ask for an exception.

I have a 64 GB iPod that is full. My mother has a 128GB iPod that is largely empty. I want to take my Music library and put it on her iPod, and take her library and put it on my iPod. How do I do this?
Are you currently Syncing the iPod's with their own iTunes Library? Since the iPod Classic has to get it's content by this method, I assume that you are doing so for the 120GB iPod and I take it that it is a Classic.
If you are, then simply connect the iPod to the other Library.
If the content of the iPod Touch (which I assume is what the 64GB iPod is) is not all in an iTunes library - i.e. you purchased music and Apps on the Touch and have not yet Synced those to an iTunes Library, then you need to do that first. Bear in mind though, that the Apps cannot run on an iPod Classic. -
I recently had a catastrophic hard drive failure and had to replace it. At the time, I had a VERY extensive music library and it is now lost. This entire library was also on iTunes. Is it possible to recover that library, or do I have to download again?
If your hard drive was not backed up then you can download items purchased from the iTunes Store.

For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Did you subscribe to iTunes Match service? If you did, your other music would be available too.
Note, this restores the music files themselves, not playlists, playcount, ratings, or other things associated with the actual library file structure.
You really should consider getting a backup drive. Hard drives failures are a certainty and it saves a lot of grief. -
For example, I am looking at Slash's Apocalyptic Love and click the arrow to Show in iTunes Store. I then click back on my Music Library and instead of seeing Slash's album still, iTunes has reset my view and I will now be back in the letter A's. I then have to scroll down or hit "S" to get back down in my list to find the Slash album again and return to what I was doing. Minor inconvenience, but an annoying quirk.
Previous versions of iTunes kept your place and remembered where you were in the music list.
Anyone experience this or have a solution that I'm missing?I complained about this the day iTunes 11 came out, they clearly don't give a hoot. It's super annoying, cause I get a lot of free music and then I listen to it in one playlist, look for it in my library to delete it, when I switch back, I have to scroll all the way down again again. And god forbid you are in your library when it switches songs while you're looking at something, cause it automatically switches to the song playing, and then you have to scroll back to where you were. Seems to me if it's a feature it used to have, it shouldn't be too hard to add it to an update...

how do i transfer my itunes account (with all my music, photos and ipad apps) from a macbook pro to a new macbook air?
thanks but exactly how do I do this. I tried setting the new macair up using migration assistant but for some reason not everything has come through. I bought a thunderbolt cable to improve the transfer rate.
Now my question is how do I transfer the iTunes folder. I have authorised the new macair for iTunes and am within the 5 computer limit. -
Basically my iPhone 4 asked for my Apple ID and I entered it thinking it was just some check or something and then I've just been scrolling through my music library and there is a whole U2 album there and i have never even heard of U2... i clicked on one of the songs to see what it was and it came up with "This device is already associated with an apple ID. If you download past purchases with your apple ID, you cannot auto download or download past purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days."
I Can't delete the album like I can with my other music from my phone and I don't really want to connect my phone to my laptop incase I have been hacked and it could give the person all access to my phone?
