  • Music player locked (Nokia 5800 XpressMusic)

Hello all. I've got a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic whose software I've just updated via Ovi Suite. The phone seems to work OK, but the media player (well, the music player to be exact) does not. My music library doesn't show up, and whenever I tell the phone to update the media library, it begins to work, and locks when it reaches 140 music files, everytime. Then it becomes unstable, sometimes I can close it but sometimes I must remove the battery for the phone to became usable again.
I'm using software V50.0.005,  custom version 50.0.005.201.13, language group 09, model 5800 XpressMusic, Type RM-356.
Any help there? Thanks in advance.

Well, I've searched deeper in the forums, and found how to solve this. All it needed was a hard reset, after a backup, of course. It is now working like a charm.

  • 5800 Xpressmusic software update made music player...

    Hello,
I recently used the Ovi suite program to upgrade the software of my 5800 Xpressmusic.  After the update was completed, which was to make lyrics available in the music player, I was no longer able to open the music player. I am unable to open any of the music files on my phone. I restored the phone to the status before the upgrade and still nothing works.
Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • 5800: a music player that remembers where it stopp...

    Hi,
I had many reasons to buy the 5800 but one of them was the music player. I listen to it in the gym using BT headphones. Frankly I'm amazed I never see anyone else with BT headphones but that's a different topic. Best music technology ever
The problem is that despite this being an Xpressmusic device the music player is a bit marginal, IMO. The thing I miss most compared to regular mp3 players is the capability to remember where it was stopped the last time. You're listening to a playlist and you turn of the player when you go home. Next time you turn on the player you want it to pick up where it was and continue with the same song in the same location in the same playlist. You could say you could remember where you stopped but that's silly. What if you had a long podcast or audio book? Wouldn't it make sense to continue where you stopped?
I realize I can pause the player and keep it running in the background but that means I can't power of my phone, right?
I've looked at two alternative players and they don't seem to support this most basic feature either. Why? Doesn't anyone take phones seriously as mp3 replacements?
I hope Nokia reads this and considers sneaking in this minor feature in the next 5800 update or as an Ovi download.
    Thanks for reading!

PS pretty impressed with the phone overall!

Well, technically speaking, exiting the music player would still remember what the song was last, but not turning the phone off. I dont think any application can do this as it would require to have the internal extra battery (CMOS battery I think) to continuously supply power to the phone's processor, which it does not.
Also, as a smartphone, it consumes too much battery in powering up and powering down that it is really not advisable to turn it on and off in the first place, and in fact I dont see any situation where you should do that. If a place requires that phones are turned off, you can just set it to Offline Mode, which makes it so that the phone cannot receive any signal.
EDIT: sorry made a mistake in wording. The CMOS battery does supply a little power to the phone while it's turned off. Just remembered that it does this for the clock. LOL. But then again, making an app to make use of this power to remember where it stopped may depend on how much power is being supplied in the first place.
Oh I made a mistake again. I thought you were referring to turning the phone off. Not just the music player.
Also, I'm not sure if you already know this, but for a playlist to remember where you last stopped, it does that. When you go into music player. go to Options>Now Playing. It will show the last song played.

  • 5800 v50 music player problems

i just updated my 5800 to v50 and had a few annoying problems with the music player... first when i opened the music player refreshing the library took eons and it seemed that it stuck at 10 files added... then i finally i decided to delete all the mp3s for the phone and add them using the ovi player but sometimes when i touch a song to play nothing happens and then i can't exit the player only by turning the phone off and when i do sometimes the phone gets stuck at a black screen and then i have to remove the battery and reinsert it to make the phone work again!! i don't know what other problems this version of firmware has but i regret updating!! before this i had v20 and was very happy with it

    1. Complaining may or may not bring it back in next release. The usual modes is snail mail to your local Nokia Head Office or the Contact Us button at the top of the page.
    2. Downgrade is not possible without a heavy risk of bricking the phone.

  • 5800 Express Music - Music player will not open

    Hi,
My 5800 music player will not open. I can open the radio and every other application in that folder except the music player. please help!!

    Hi,
Are you able to play the songs from the File Manager in the handset? If yes, try Restore Factory Settings in the handset. Press Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone Management > Factory Settings. If you are not able to play the songs even from from the File Manager, then try Hard Resetting the handset. Power Off the handset. Hold the 2 calls (Red & Green) & the Camera key & proceed to power on the device, while holding the three keys (green, red and camera). Keep holding down the 3 keys until after the handshake screen.
Make sure you Back-Up the Phone Data before Hard Resetting the device.

  • Nokia 5800 Sound problems in music player

Having a weird problem with the music player.  When you choose a song to play, there is no sound unless you press either volume button, then the sound works normally.  I have tried this in all different profiles, with and without headphones and nothing seems to work.  Any ideas how I can get the sound back in the music player?

I don't know the exact solution to the problem but you may try to do a reset option. Sometimes with my N82 the sound just stops but the music is going. So i pause and play it again.
    Try this reset but-
Before perfoming this please take a backup of your data.
    Factory defaults-
Type *#7780# on your standby screen.
This will reset all your setting to default factory settings. User data wont be affected.
    Soft reset-
    Type *#7370#
This will reset the phone as well delete user data. Use when want to format the phone.
If none of these worked then you might want to do a hard reset.
    For this you have to-
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.( Just in case of N78 it will be the multimedia key the small silver key on right side & for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. For Nokia N97 is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE. )
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button to switch on the phone.
    4. Release the buttons when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
Please thank me by giving 'KUDOS' star. It will help me to serve you better.
Currently using N82 and 5230. Next would be N?

  • 5800 - Stop ringtones playing in music player - ho...

As the subject suggests - does anyone know how to do this?
I find it very annoying when I choose to listen to all music and the ringtones or message tones play

I've found a workaround for this problem that seems to work for me on my 5800 XM Nav Ed.  After I was done adding all of my music to my phone and refreshed my music library I too found that the ringtones that I'd downloaded in the past had showed up in the music player when I displayed all songs.  So what I did was remove the ringtones from the "Sounds\Digital Sounds" folder on my external memory card and moved them to the "Other" folder on the phone's internal memory using the built in file manager application.  Then I went back into the music player app and low and behold the ringtones were no longer displayed in the music library when I displayed all songs.  I did however have to go back to the phone profiles that I had customized (i.e. Normal, meeting, etc.) and reselect the appropriate ringtone because when you first go into the profile to customize after having moved the tones from their original location to the "Other" folder you get an error message that basically states the ringtone cannot be found so a default will be used.  When you select the ringtone to change it however, the original ringtone that you used will be displayed in the list of available tones you just have to reselect it to make it work again.  If however you do add more songs and do a refresh on the music library the ringtones will show up again when you display all songs in the music library.  Hope you find this works for you as well.  Like I said it is a workaround and not a permanent fix.

  • Constant issues with 5800 XM Music player

    G'day all,
I've had a constant stream of issues with the music player in my 5800 XM since I got it. The current two giving me the most grief are:
    1) The phone stripping song info from tracks so they just show as Unknown Artist - Unknown Track and won't play out. This also gives me frequent Operation Cancelled: General System Errors if I try to select and play one of the songs this has happened to.
    2) This is a new one: the phone has actually started deleting songs off the memory card. It's deleted about 500 in the past week. The song data still remains in the library though, with the small yellow triangle appearing next to the name if I try and play one that's been deleted.
These are just two of many issues. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to format the card and retransfer all my music. I just updated the phone software from the updater on the phone which I hope will, but have the issues popped up before? Have I got myself a lemon? It is getting very, very, VERY irritating.

I have the same exact issues...it picks random songs to be removed from my memory card and dumbs down song info
Plus some of my Images can't be opened as of recent

  • Nokia xm 5800 music player "not supported"

    Hi everyone,
I just updated my music player yesterday and when I tried to open it on my phone, it wouldn't even open. When I tried to open it from the gallery, it shows "Gallery: feature not supported". I tried to click "options" but that wouldn't open either. However it still shows up on the Nokia Music Player on my PC. And I could still hear my songs by setting my alarm tone. I've tried taking out the battery & SIM card, but still no results. I would not prefer to re-transfer my music since I programmed a lot of information in them and it would take me hours to type them in again.
    Thanks!

  • 5800 Ordering in podcasts within music player- Pod...

Within the music player on a 5800XM, how can I control the ordering of podcasts when using
the Podcasts->By Title search option with the music player...??
What this currently does is orders these is the newest first order, where as if you
a listening to a radio drama (like me, who listens to the Archers approx twice a week)
you want these to be in the oldest first order!
    Cheers Tony

    Hi TonyMac,
I don't know if there's a way, and I am annoyed by this missing feature too.
I just wanted to advise you against upgrading to firmware v50, as the podcast section of the music player lost important functionality.
Now browsing podcasts by title is your only option. Gone are shortcuts like "recently added", "never played", "by date" etc. That's very sad, as "recently added" makes so much sense with podcasts!
I also don't understand why we cannot add podcasts to a playlist. Podcasts are just mp3 files like all other music files.
I am now looking for a way to downgrade the firmware (or just the music player) to v40. I regret so much having updated!!

  • 5800 music player unable to open after updated app...

    Hi,
I just updated my nokia music player application today via application update.  After I updated and restarted it, I tried to open this application but it  didn't respond at all (it tried to pop up a new page but then it returned to whatever page I was before) Then, I went to application manager and deleted the metadatautility cenrep ini file because I thought that was the cause from reading the other threads but nothing has changed.
I was able to play the music through  the ringtones but not the music player itself.
My phone software version is 31.2.101
Thank you so much for helping! Any answer is appreciated.

any difference if mmc is removed?
check for firmware update with ovisuite/nsu or through fota and if available update it to latest version available.
If this thia doesn't solve youe problem, backup your datas,
Reset phone to factory setting(phone management),
    remove memory card,
Remove phone lock code if already set
    Open phone dialer,
    Type *#7370#
Lock code is 12345 if not changed
    Give a soft reset

  • 5800 xpressmusic - transfering music files to pho...

I can transfer files from my phone to my PC, but whenever I try to transer files from my PC to my phone, or direct from CD to my phone, all I get from Nokia Music is an error message "Transfer completed with x errors", where x is the number of .mp3 tracks I was trying to transfer. I have updated the software versions.
    Any tips please ?

[Edit] Does "Failed to get WPD parent object" mean anything to anyone?
When I'm in Media Transfer Mode, OVI wants me to change to PC Suite mode, but when I change to PC Suite mode, I have no connection to PC.[/Edit]

if the software is causing you such pain, just copy the music files via USB, selecting Mass Storage mode when you connect the phone to your computer. All the ID3 tag information will be retained, all you have to do when finished transferring is go into the Music Player and select Refresh. Much easier, and much faster
