Music problem in iPhoto '08

My son loves to watch slideshows in iPhoto '08. However, he only like to listen to the music located in the "sample" music folder. Up until recently the music played normally and it shuffled through the 11 or so songs in that folder. Now it won't play the music at all or it will just play one song from the list of songs that appears in the window at the bottom of the slideshow dialog box. Needless to say my son is not very happy with this!
I have deleted the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file already. Additionally, I recently upgraded to OS 10.5.8.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue and please my 3 year old?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I've found the same problem. iPhoto 7 now will only play one song with a slideshow. I think you're right about it being related to the latest system update, 10.5.8. Be sure to report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html as will I.
I don't know of any fix. You could try a 3rd party slideshow application like PhotoPresenter which works seamlessly with iPhoto and iTunes. PP can play playlists created in iTunes. You can easily copy the sample music folder out of iPhoto and into iTunes where you can create a playlist of it.
PhotoPresenter has over 25 animated themes, several of which are shown in this demo page: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes. The application has a demo mode so you can see if it would suit your needs.

     Some people have problems to with the music sync but anyone has the same problem but with the photos? iTunes doesn´t count the number of photos that suposse to be listed when you select your album on itunes/device/photos... I have the same issue - iTunes 11.1.2, iOS 7.0.3, Mac OS X Mavericks, iMac 2011, iPhone 5S - Aperture 3.5 and iPhoto 9.5 - iTunes does not sync pictures (not even counts them) between my iPhone 5S and either one of the programs. When I select iPhoto, it even shows information of a library I am not opening with iPhoto anymore.
I have resorted for the time being, waiting for a bug fix, to copy what I am interested in, into a folder and sync from it - that at least works.
Moreover, contrary to what said here in other threads, I can Wi-fi sync my iPhone 5S and iPad 2 to iTunes 11.1.2.
And, about all the complaints of iTunes not showing the "Info" tab anymore, Mac OS X now supports natively more types of accounts (Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook, AOL, etc.). Everything can still be also set up manually in any case - so I don't understand what everybody is bragging about - you can avoid using iCloud, if so one wishes.

I'm on a Macbook Pro and all of my software is up-to-date.
The photos and events, etc. appear to be present in my photo library, but I cannot see the actual images--only an outlined placeholder.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take 3 or 4 goes to work.

Creative Zen loading music problem

"Creative Zen loading music problem?I just started using a creative zen (DVP-FL000, 6Gb) player and i'm having?a few issues copying music onto it.
I have loaded the latest firmware (.2.03e) onto it and formatted it so was clean when i started loading my music on.
I'm using winamp on winxp to copy my music to the player, but occasionally i get tracks that wont copy to the player. Winamp just shows 'unspecified error'. If a file fails to copy it will never copy, no matter how many times i try. Somtimes its a random track, sometimes an entire album.
So i also tried copying the tracks that wont copy using windows explorer, it appears to copy but the file never appears on the device. The same is also true when i try it on my Windows7 laptop with explorer, it will appear to be copying but then part way through it will report that the device has stopped responding.
It only seems to happen with windows media files, all my mp3s copy fine. The files that dont copy probably represent about 0% of my music but play fine on all my other players.
sorry for the long post, just really scratching my head with this one!

Exactly what did you do and how did you do it? this ay be the cause of your issue but without details we can n=ony guess

Ok - this usually has a simple solution - do you still have a copy of the library that has this problem?

This makes no sense at all - all of your previous statements indicate that you do have an iPhoto library but have some problems with it
By default your iPHoto library is located in your Pictures folder and is named iPhtoo library - if tha tis not the case the you have moved or renamed it and only you know what you did until you tell us the details

Applications should not disappear all by themselves.
If they are then that coud indicate serious problems with your hard drive.
Backup everything up as quickly as possible.
Using Disk Utility verify your system disk.

I upgraded to Mountain from Snow and find that there is now a problem adding iphoto to the cloud. I have iphoto '08,version 7.1.5. Tried to follow one poster's advice and upgrade to 9.1 but I need 9.0 first and I can't find that. suggestions? thanks!

You have to buy iPhoto from the Mac App Store.

Problem with iPhoto 9.3.2: Any assistance or how to re-install?

Hi all,
I've got a problem with iPhoto 9.3.2 whereby upon startup, I get a spinning wheel which goes on forever (I've left the computer alone for 5 hrs and coming back, it's still spinning). Symptoms are it pulls up the Library with Events, Photos, Faces, even Albums. But I don't actually get any photos displayed on the right.
I've tried :-
1) reinstalling Mountain Lion
2) using Disk Utility Repair Permissions
3) Rebuilding thumbnails & library
4) Creating new library
5) starting up under a new user account (therefore not a problem with a config file in my homedir)
6) Starting iPhoto up in Safe Mode
Note during the spinning wheel, I can access the menu as such I can quit, import photos, etc.
It actually works (worked) under the following conditions :-
a) Until 31st July iPhoto 9.3.2 was working fine. I cannot remember what I did/installed/uninstalled/changed/deleted to cause it to have problems
b) I can get access to the very same library with Aperture with no problems at all (i.e. no library issues)
c) Photos will only display if I import a picture. Then all Events will appear. I can get into each event, I can even select the photo I imported and delete it. This is my current workaround to accessing photos in iPhoto. However I cannot switch to any of the albums I created. It will only display Events. Clicking on Photos, Faces, Places, and any of the Recent doesn't do anything.
So finally now is to try to re-install iPhoto 9.3.2. Can any one please let me know how I can do this? I've tried Option-Click on Purchases tab in the App Store but I get a greyed out INSTALLED in iPhoto. Similarly I found a link that provided the iPhoto9.3.2Update.dmg but in attempting to installing that, it tells me it can only be done via the App Store.
Any advice?

@mende1, perfect! That was easy! I thought I had to clean out plist files from my home directory, etc. Upon deletion and reinstallation, iPhoto started working again!

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

Problem in iphoto

I am having a problem with iphoto. i made photo book with hard cover, size XL and 22 pages and ordered it so after 1 week i got an email from APPLE like that :
It appears that when your order was submitted to Apple, an error caused the
image file to be unreadable or unprintable. As a result, Apple is unable to
process your order.
i checked it again an again in preview book (PDF) but the pictures in preview was unreadable like fade out.
but before 1 month i already made a photo book in LARGE size with 20 pages and i got it from APPLE and that was so perfect. but is there any problem with XL size in prints department of APPLE or i am having any troubleshoot in iphoto
This problem is only with XL size because when changed it into LARGE size it looks perfect.

Hope you are well. thanks a million for help me and i did it such as you explained me i start my MAC in safe mood and then preview the book in XL size it is working perfectly every image is clear but there is only 1 problem that i cant click on the BUY BOOK and there is no wi-fi internet working in safe mood. so now what i have to do?
shall i have to use the DSL cable net or something else option in safe mood and before ordering i should close my preview book (PDF). Thanks

I APOLOGIZE FOR MY IGNORANCE BUT I HAVE BEEN A RECENT CONVERT TO MAC AND HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH IPHOTO. IT IS A RECENT OCCURANCE BUT I CANNOT GET THE LIBRARY TO SHOW ALL THE THUMBNAILS OF ALL MY PPHOTOS. I SEEM TO BE STUCK IN THE EDIT PAGE AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? WHEN IT WAS WORKING IT WAS A FANTASTIC WAY TO WORK WITH EACH ROLL AS I NEEDED IT.

Problem with iPhoto 7 import

I find a big problem with iPhoto 7 and import !
I made 53 scan of photos in 1200dpi, modified, cleaned and saved them in jpeg files (1mo to 2mo by photo)
all are in the same folder and some are in grayscale other in colors.
When I want to import (with copying or not) them in iPhoto 7 (already updated) 15 of 53 have not small photo in event they are black, and when I zoom on them they are bug.
It is only in iPhoto.
If I share this event in iMovie small photo is black but if I move this photo in my iMovie project Photo is good...
Then it is really a big problem because I can't use iPhoto for my albums, cards, ...
Have you a solution?

It is very important because if we want to produce an album we must send a high resolution, but they are only 1mo to 2mo by photo not 35mo...

Problems installing iPhoto 9.6 with Yosemite

I just updated to Yosemite from Maverick. Since then I have problems with IPhoto. When I try to open it I am asked to update to the latest version, apparently 9.6. However I can't download it, the button does not react. Amazing... Anybody any idea?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that does'nt help log into another user account on your Mac and try iPhoto from there.

Problems importing iPhoto library into Aperture 3

When I got my mac, I imported a collection of images on an external drive into iPhoto, and worked with them there. I also imported images from memory cards directly into iPhoto.
During the original import, I selected the "leave files in place" option. For the direct imports from memory cards, I just imported them. I didn't realize that it would bundle everything into a single file when I did that, and I wasn't expecting what I ran into next...
I finally purchased a copy of Aperture 3 for its more powerful tools and smoother workflow. After installing it, I imported my iPhoto library into it, with the leave in place option... and found that Aperture couldn't load most of the images. It shows placeholder frames instead.
I have tried reconnecting the masters, to no avail; their paths are correct, so they're not changing, and Aperture insists that the masters are missing before and after.
I tried repairing the database with the database first aid tool, and it had no effect.
I tried rebuilding the database, and the result was disastrous; after that I had *no* images in Aperture. None. Even the few that I'd imported directly from media into Aperture were gone.
So I restored my Aperture database from my TimeMachine backup which impressed me with how easy it was, and now I'm back where I started... most of the images imported from iPhoto are inaccessible in Aperture, so I can't use Aperture for most of my image editing, even though iPhoto reads them without any trouble.
Any suggestions?

Yes, all of the images are available in iPhoto, whether they're in the iPhoto library, or on the external drive.
Aperture isn't showing any symbol other than the dotted line frame, at least none that I've seen yet. I thought at first that it was the images on the external drive that were missing, but it's actually showing some of them, and not showing others even in some cases ones in the same folder. If a screenshot would help, I'll capture one (I don't know how to do that in OSX yet, though I suspect it's just a matter of the right key combo?).
CalxOddity: It's an OSX volume, but I'm not sure how to determine which filesystem it's using, or else I'd be more specific.
leonieDF: It is a network volume, one of the Time Capsule drives. Though I knew it would slow down loading, I didn't expect any other problems, since iPhoto doesn't have any.
