Musical typing issue

Hi,
I just installed Leopard. I was previously running 10.3 and I had garageband and everything worked fine. I put garageband on the 10.5 and I no longer have musical typing. When i select software instrument it is asking me if i want to save the instrument or discard it. I have tried both options and neither of them allow the typing to work. Does anyone know why this is? Am I looking at a compatibility issue? Garageband is version 3.0.5 i think ... it may be 3.0.4 but i thought the update just went through.
Thanks in advance for any help
Nick

I just realized that I put this in the wrong section. It should be in Garageband 3. If anyone knows how to move it, it would be appreciated. thanks

it's odd that it's only some files, but skimming through this:

i have saved my project
you don't mention saving your instrument.

  • Musical Typing problem

    Hello there,
I just started to use mainstage without a midi controller keyboard. I'm using the musical typing feature to listen to the bank of sounds.
When i type something like a F#7 chord ("t", "u", "o", ";") i cannot hear the four notes together (when i'm playing them all at once)... it seems there's a problem when i'm trying to mix certain notes with the musical typing keyboard. (Some complicated chords just don't work).
I have the same problem with Logic 8 . (press caps lock to see the musical typing window).
    I can't see why i can't get that F#7 chord.
I'm using mac os 10.5.1 with a macbook pro 2,4 ghz.
    thanks

Computer keyboards aren't designed to respond to multiple keys all pressed at once. I think you'll find the most a standard Mac keyboard will deal with is four keys at once, but even then they won't respond with minimal latency, because they aren't designed for this.
It's a limitation to how computer keyboards are built and processed, not a Logic/Mainstage issue as such. The caps lock keyboard is a convenience thing - it's not intended to be a suitable interface for playing Rachmaninov on...

  • Garageband 10.0.1 - no "legacy", no way to drag samples to musical typing??

All I have on my MacBook is Garageband 10.0.1, no previous versions.  It is a legit copy, and I've purchased all the additional loops, sounds, etc....I'm simply trying to drag a loop or .mp3 sound onto a key on the "musical typing" screen to play it, either using the musical typing or from my Midi controller.  It will not let me drag any sound from the loop finder, a track, or my desktop onto any key.  I've searched and searched, and everyone says to go into the "Legacy" library and use a sound effet track, but I don't have any "legacy" library.....Help?!?

I think you already said this, but what I do is drag it from my desktop (or wherever it may be), into the track. Once it's on the track I open up the "Musical Typing" and then drag it from the track onto the key. I'm also having an issue with the legacy instruments. I wiped my Mac and reinstalled Mavericks along with Garageband and all the iLife stuff from the App store and now I no longer have legacy instruments even after restoring my $4.99 purchase. I won't use GB until I get the legacy stuff back.

  • Oxygen 49 and musical typing not responsive with Logic X

So recently my M Audio Oxygen 49 Midi keyboard stopped working. I tried switching to the Musical typing and that didn't work either. I don't know if Logic X doesn't support the keyboard but then why does the musical typing not work. Any solutions?

Assuming that your Audio output is still working ok... Drag an Apple Loop to the arrange window and see if you can hear it play back to confirm.. and if you cannot hear anything go to Logic's Preferences/Audio and check that Core Audio is checked and the correct audio output is selected for Output...
    Musical Typing works fine with LPX and any OS X combination so the issue has to be either;
    User Error...
    or...
Some form of preferences corruption.. or issue with your Control Surfaces...
Therefore... try the following first.... deleting both the Logic10.plist and the CS files...
    Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
    Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
    Restart the computer.
Note: If you cannot find the two files.. you have not followed the instructions exactly as written.....

  • Musical Typing not working as MIDI input

    Hi all,
I recently bought and downloaded Logic Pro X for the intention of producing music at home. Whilst I am still getting things bought and sorted I have yet to buy a MIDI controller to use and thought I would get by, to start with, using the mac keyboard and musical typing. It was all fine to start with, but after playing around with some settings, I find that mysical typing is failing to provide any input into Logic whatsoever.  I've tried looking for answers elsewhere to no avail and I would really appreciate it if someone on here could help me solve this issue.
    Thanks!

You mean that it was not like that when you opened the click & ports layer? This is the default config, so maybe the troubles are specific to your project?
What if you create a New project from the Empty template?
"Reset all MIDI drivers" should, if anything, have brought it back. I just tried it, and it does not disconnect my MT keys here. "RaMd" can clear up MIDI controller lag that has built up in long sessions, that's what I (very occasionally) use it for.
The next step to take (if the behaviour is still erratic  in a fresh new project) is to reboot your Mac. If that doesn't do it either, trash Logic preferences. If that doesn't help, I give up.

  • The track got muted/unmuted after pressing cmd + K (musical typing)

    Guys,
    I need your help,,
    There's very weird problem here.
I pressed a cmd K to use the musical typing, and suddenly the track was muted.
So I deleted cmd K short cut in key commands menu. But cmd K is still working and also muting my track.
Is there anybody have same problem like this?
    Help me out!! PLZ!!!
    Thx!

You must have assigned CMD + K to something else so.....
    Do the following......
    Delete the user preferences

  • How do I use my computer keyboard instead of a MIDI keyboard to enter notes? In Garage Band I simply go to View - musical typing but there is no such prompt in Logic Pro 7.

Ihave always used my Logic Pro 7 program with a MIDI keyboard for note entry. I do not presently have a MIDI keyboard and wish to use my computer keyboard for note entry. I know this is possible but cannot recall the command to set that up. Can anyone refresh my memory? I know that on Garageband on just need to go to view - musical typing but that is not the command in Logic Pro.

    Hi,
    Hit the Caps Lock key.

  • Has there been any helpful remedy for the ghost typing issue?

Has there been any helpful remedy for the ghost typing issue? Where the ipad starts typing on its own and screens moving around the screen?
I have had the ipad 1 for a while- and it started about 5 months ago. Anything other than shutting down and leaving alone for hours work?

Yeah, well if you read that whole thread you will see lots of posts identifying it as a hardware problem:
I'm the original poster on this thread. I ended up taking my iPad back to the Apple Store. They ran some diagnostics, and found that my RAM was almost maxed out, which didn't really make sense. It indicated a faulty processor, so they gave me a new iPad. I took it home, synched, and it only took about 45 minutes to synch 30 gigs of data. My original iPad took about 5 hours to synch for the first time. Clearly there was a problem with the processor in the first one, but I didn't realize it at first, as it took several weeks before it started exhibiting the erratic screen behavior. Hope this helps anyone else who might experience this down the line.

So i went to my apple store... which was PACKED. Found a manager and explained my problem. Without any question, they simply replaced it. Awesome!
    -duncanwilcox
I have the same problem, and I found out what's wrong, it's not the software - restart, restore and FW upgrade will not help, it's definitely hardware. The best option is to replace your iPad assuming you have an apple store nearby…

Just get your iPad replaced. It has a hardware problem.

  • BlackBerry Passport - double typing issue

After about 4 months of usage, I began to start having the double-typing issue on my Passport (which, from what I read, is not uncommon, both for Passports and Classics).
It doesn't seem to te be the hardware issue - I can't recreate it by simply pushing the button, it happens randomly.
Is it possible that it is related to the installation of the update of the OS? I have 10.3.1.1565, but I didn't have it with the previous OS versions.
Does anyone know what is the reason of this? Or the possible solution?
    Thanks,
    L.

I'm not seeing it. Now running PassportSQW100-1/10.3.1.2576
I'm not confident I'm right about this, but if it is happening on the same key(s) even if it is intermittent, I would tend to believe it is hardware.
If you want to rule out software you need to do a clean OS install. I think there might be a good argument for using Sachesi or autoloader, but I'm not sure.

  • Help! I lost my musical typing keyboard

    Hello,
I have worked in GarageBand for about a month since I got my new Macbook. However, somehow I lost the box for musical typing, the one that shows the keyboard. Thus, I can't continue on my song unless I painfully enter my ideas note by note.
I'm not really sure what I did and I have no clue how to fix it. Still, I'm pretty sure it is easy to fix... for someone else!
    Please help!
    Emma

the only other thing i can offer is a program i wrote a couple of years ago to try to fix GB4 files (it's never been tested on GB5 files):

  • Onscreen Keyboard & Musical Typing enhancements

I do not remember these enhancements with GB3... there are now icons on the onscreen keyboard to swap back and forth between the keyboard and musical typing - this is a nice touch. Also, I noticed that when playing a MIDI file, if you have the musical typing screen displayed, you can follow along with the notes being played. Another nice touch for learning.

Both are brand new to GB08

  • Musical Typing - Keyboard is cut off

    Hey there,
I'm having a problem with the musical typing keyboard.
Somehow I shrunk it and now only the top half is visible.
    Any ideas?

Hi. I had this trouble also. I was using musical typing, then I switched tracks and did other things, then came back and it did not work. I don't know what I might have hit in the interim that turned it off. The mouse/cursor still plays music, but the keyboard does not.
In fact, when I type now on the keyboard, the whole screen greys out. But this doesn't seem to be all the keys; for example, 'R" still starts recording.
    -=-=-=-
OK, so it's now a minute later and the mute button WAS on for that track. I swear I checked it! Consider this solved for now.
    -=-=-=-
Nope. Well, it worked for a minute there, then stopped again after I moved a track. What is going on here? Yeesh.

  • Musical Typing

So i've made a bass guitar track using musical typing. Now im editing it, fixing keyboard delays, human errors and just making sure everything hits at the right time. But fixing every single note takes a looong time. There's got to be an auto fix/correction/auto analyze feature, or a way to sync the track with the metronome.. it only makes sense. But i cant for the life of me find it.
Please help, would really appreciate if someone knew how to make this process faster/less time consuming

open the track editor and use the Quantize popUp and slider to lock in the notes to the note length and timing you want

  • Musical typing not working properly

Hey guys I'm new to Logic Pro X and Im having some difficulties with the Musical typing keyboard.
For some reason the note "E2" does not play when I hit the "D" key on my keyboard, all the other notes work fine and even with lower and high octaves but for some reason "E2" does not work. I checked the Velocites and an its fine so I have no idea what it could be as it was working earlier today.
Any help would be much appreciated

Open your Controller Assignments window (cmd-K), delete the assignment to E2 and close the window. Make sure Learn Mode is off (=grey button - blue button means it's on))
