Here is another great thread this week. This one deals with what to do if you can't get a good streaming signal for Netflix because of your wireless modem. The original poster did a great job outlining the issue and other community members hopped in with a lot of helpful suggestions.

Thanks to Anti-Phish for helping one of our users figure out how to extend the range of their wireless signal. You learn something new every day thanks to our awesome community members!
Member of the Week:
Hubrinxs is our member of the week! He was a huge help in this thread, helping a user figure out why Verizon Internet Security Suite may be preventing him from accessing the internet.

Thanks Heather. Your up late.
Sometimes half the issue is figuring out the question. I guess I figured it out.
Justin. You sure are thorough in your explanations and support!
Now I could not get to PJLs explanation. Must be Lithium.
Kudos to all. And to Remodb for such a large number of Kudos. Someone figured out my secrete. Good Ideas really rack up those numbers. People really must want that content.

    Thread of The Week:
Do you have a Blu-Ray player? We do- I didn't want to get one (I thought it would be a waste of money), but we use it all the time for a lot more then just playing discs. One of the things we use ours for at least once a day is Netflix and I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if my Blu-Ray signal was too weak to properly connect to my FiOS service. Thankfully thanks to this thread if I ran into that problem, I'd know what to do!

Some times when you're dealing with all this technology, you sometimes forget that it's the little things- like the wires- that can trip you up. Here's a great thread that helps you figure out what kind of wire may be connected to your modem. Thanks to Hubrisnxs and OldGuy69 for helping out!

I love a good Thread of the Week that is not only entertaining (I laughed out loud reading this one!) but really informative! So read why some security questions may cause you to have an inferiority complex AND some creative ways to answer these questions to ensure you don't forget your answers.

If you're anything like me, you rely on your email for a lot. Keeping in touch with friends, managing the PTA at my kid's school, fantasy football and work. It's *very* important that I get all the emails sent to me, otherwise I could miss something important. So when important emails are routed to my spam, that's a problem. Thanks to TNS_2 for his help in figuring out what to do if this happens.

First thanks fo the kind words Heather and Armond. I really never thougt I would rate "MVP" status, after losing my job in IT support a few years back I have participated in a few forums but this one seems the most civil and informative. I have learned a lot over the years posting questions and reading real experts' posts (there are too many to mention) I am really happy to give back to this awesome community.
If a forum member gives an answer you like, please give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem. Thanks !!!

One of the trickiest- and most interesting- things about posting a question on the boards is that your original question can very easily morph into another question altogether. This is what happened within this week's Thread of the Week. A simple question asking if you can swap out a modem/router combo for a modem only has led to some great discussions on how best to use your PS3.

I am honored to be on the list, however I wish it wasn't for the reason it was.
Unmentioned in your post is the outpouring of support for the Funimation channel.  This channels cancellation, due to what is quickly turning out to be a less than factual reason of 'low viewership' from Verizon, has mobilized many of your customers.  In fact, I'm sure that most of the people in your list this week were kudo'ed for posts in 1 of 2 threads:
    Funimation Canceled!
    Save Funimation Petition
If we are to look at the pure numbers, at the time of this writing those 2 threads combined for a total of nearly 950 kudos and 3800+ views.  Even more telling:  198 of the 200 most kudo'ed posts are people SUPPORTING Funimation Channel and against Verizon's decision to cancel the channel.  (http://forums.verizon.com/t5/kudos/leaderboardpage/board-id/FiOS_TV_Entertainment/timerange/one_mont...
IMHO (and no offense to Justin and his very helpful document) either of these 2 would have made a much more appropriate 'Thread of the week'.

Unfortunately, a user's IP is considered personal information.  If they post a copy/paste, we are able to edit it out. However, when it's in an image, we have to remove the entire thing.  But when we message the user, we ask them to obscure their IP and to re-post the image.
Good reason, makes sense. But couldn't you edit the image (with an image editor) and cover up the IP address? I do that kind of thing all the time with images I post here to protect my privacy (although as you know I occasionally do screw that up ). Would save the confusion and need for the user to repost the image.

  • I don't want my date to be changed from 08/30/2012 to Aug 30, 2012. How do I keep it as 08/30/2012? I don't want it to automatically change to Aug 30, 2012

How can I make a date show up as 08/30/2012 on a cell instead of automatically changing to Aug 30, 2012. I need the date to show up as 08/30/2012

The iWork apps defaut to the longer date format. There are a lot of choices of date formats in the iWork apps. Using the cells inspector, set the format for the cells/columns/rows as date & time & then pick the format you want. If you format the cells before you enter the dates they won't change. If you're pasting data into previously formatted cells, use paste & match style to have the data take on the existing characteristics.
