Thread of The Week:
Our thread of the week is both timely and informative as it discusses the ins and outs of the FiOS back-up battery. The thread covers everything from what to do when your power goes out, how to extend your battery life and how to stop the beeping. Many, many thanks to all who chimed in.
Post of the Week:
Want to test your FiOS connection with various speed tests to see how fast your speed really is? Smith6612 can help you out there with a list of speed tests to try. Thanks, Smith6612!
Member of the Week:
Armond_in_NJ is our Member of the Week for his help diagnosising an issue a user is having with his phone service. Many thanks, Armond, for helping get to the bottom of the problem!

I would have to agree with this. Battery Operation and the importance of the Phone in the devastation that hit the East, was most important.

You all know I love a good thread where everyone works together to help out the original poster with their issue. In this case, the OP upgraded to a higher FiOS speed and wasn't sure if what he was getting was what he signed up for. Thanks to everyone for helping!

    Thread of The Week:
One of the trickiest- and most interesting- things about posting a question on the boards is that your original question can very easily morph into another question altogether. This is what happened within this week's Thread of the Week. A simple question asking if you can swap out a modem/router combo for a modem only has led to some great discussions on how best to use your PS3.

I am honored to be on the list, however I wish it wasn't for the reason it was.
Unmentioned in your post is the outpouring of support for the Funimation channel.  This channels cancellation, due to what is quickly turning out to be a less than factual reason of 'low viewership' from Verizon, has mobilized many of your customers.  In fact, I'm sure that most of the people in your list this week were kudo'ed for posts in 1 of 2 threads:
    Funimation Canceled!
    Save Funimation Petition
If we are to look at the pure numbers, at the time of this writing those 2 threads combined for a total of nearly 950 kudos and 3800+ views.  Even more telling:  198 of the 200 most kudo'ed posts are people SUPPORTING Funimation Channel and against Verizon's decision to cancel the channel.  (http://forums.verizon.com/t5/kudos/leaderboardpage/board-id/FiOS_TV_Entertainment/timerange/one_mont...
IMHO (and no offense to Justin and his very helpful document) either of these 2 would have made a much more appropriate 'Thread of the week'.

    Thread of The Week:
Do you have a Blu-Ray player? We do- I didn't want to get one (I thought it would be a waste of money), but we use it all the time for a lot more then just playing discs. One of the things we use ours for at least once a day is Netflix and I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if my Blu-Ray signal was too weak to properly connect to my FiOS service. Thankfully thanks to this thread if I ran into that problem, I'd know what to do!
    Post of the Week:
Some times when you're dealing with all this technology, you sometimes forget that it's the little things- like the wires- that can trip you up. Here's a great thread that helps you figure out what kind of wire may be connected to your modem. Thanks to Hubrisnxs and OldGuy69 for helping out!

Unfortunately, a user's IP is considered personal information.  If they post a copy/paste, we are able to edit it out. However, when it's in an image, we have to remove the entire thing.  But when we message the user, we ask them to obscure their IP and to re-post the image.
Good reason, makes sense. But couldn't you edit the image (with an image editor) and cover up the IP address? I do that kind of thing all the time with images I post here to protect my privacy (although as you know I occasionally do screw that up ). Would save the confusion and need for the user to repost the image.

  • Spinning Beach Ball when trying to access Oct. and Nov.

I can't quite figure this one out. Every time I try to access Oct. or Nov. 2010 on my ical, I get a spinning beach ball that lasts for 20 minutes. I have tried erasing my ical and replacing it with my MobileMe data, but it still doesn't work. Any thoughts?

Your profile says you are running 10.5.5. Are you up to date at 10.5.8?
Try reseting your sync history: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iSync/2.0/en/isc39.html
If the issue still persists follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
If the issue STILL persists, export out each of your calendars one at a time using File > Export.
Add 1 new calendar to your iCal.
Import each calendar back in one at a time to a new calendar testing after each import to see if the issue persists.
Once all the calendars are re-imported you can delete the extra calendar.
    Hope that helps

    Patrick,
Thanks my session verify function was causing the problem and I have removed it temporarily from my authentication scheme.
I am using the "check_timeout" function that was developed a number of years ago as part of a "How To" section in the old HTMLdb days. I knew there was an issue with this routine as the newer versions of the browsers handle cookies differently and I was going to redevelop it at some point. Do you know which part of the function causes the issue?
    Many Thanks,
