MVP List #70: March 16 - March 22, 2013

The Verizon Community Forums Most Valuable Posting List is where we recognize great work and words happening every day right here on our community. We know the success as a community is based on the continual and lively contributions of our valued members. Each member provides special and unique contributions and this is the place we try to highlight members that have stood out during the previous week.
Thread of the Week:
Do you live and die by your DVR like I do? With two little kids at home, prime time viewing is often interrupted by cries for the bathroom, a drink or a back rub so I never get to watch TV shows when they actually air. That means that DVR space is at a premium and I don't have time for it to not work properly. That is why I picked a thread that discusses what to do when you delete a TV show from your DVR'd show list, but it still persists on your list. Special thanks to lacticacidtrip for help in this thread!
Post of the Week:
Our post of the week is supplied by Comet2011L4 and deals with various ways to get better speeds from your wireless connection. Laid out in a simple format, the suggestions are easy enough for even me to understand!
Member of the Week:
Our member of the week is tlb for this very helpful, very thorough series of posts about changing email settings in Eudora. tlb battled some issues getting used to working in the Forums, but persevered to supply some great information and help a lot of people as they transitioned their email settings. Thanks so much for all the help, tlb!
By the way- the editing requirements are in place because we found a lot of newbies would come here, ask a question, receive some replies and then come back and change their original post- which made for a very frustrating experience for everyone! Thanks for your understanding!

    Patrick,
Thanks my session verify function was causing the problem and I have removed it temporarily from my authentication scheme.
I am using the "check_timeout" function that was developed a number of years ago as part of a "How To" section in the old HTMLdb days. I knew there was an issue with this routine as the newer versions of the browsers handle cookies differently and I was going to redevelop it at some point. Do you know which part of the function causes the issue?
    Many Thanks,
    Jon

    Thread of the Week:
One of the great mysteries of the Internet is why you can easily access every web site in the world- except the one you really need to get to.  I never knew why that happened- all I knew was that it made me crazy.  That is- that's all I knew until I read through this thread. Thanks to all who helped explain the issue and solve it!
    Post of the Week:
Do you have "friends" like I do who love to go into all your electronics and change the language settings so you have no idea what you're reading? No? Just me? Well-just in case you make friends like mine, Lordofring has a great explanation of how to change the language settings on your IMG guide back to English.

If you want to know the differences between some of the various Set Top Boxes (STBs) out there, Pkegney has a great little comparison of what you can except from different models and what you should look for. Many thanks, Pkegney- congrats on being our Member of the Week!

If you're a parent of young kids, you can't help but know that Verizon FiOS has a new channel. That's right, Disney Jr. has arrived! If you're looking the channel, check out this thread for more info.

Huge thanks to Somegirl- one of our newest Community Leaders- for helping a new Verizon customer set up her Verizon email. It's always tricky figuring out a new system, but Somegirl's answer (with pictures!) got the job done.
    Member of the Week:
Can I tell you all a little secret? I'm not a technical person- at all. My eyes glaze over the minute acronyms and tech talk are thrown around. That is why my favorite threads on the boards are those that give great answers in a clear, concise way. Hubrisnxs does just that here in a great thread about what to do when you think you're having a service outage.

First thanks fo the kind words Heather and Armond. I really never thougt I would rate "MVP" status, after losing my job in IT support a few years back I have participated in a few forums but this one seems the most civil and informative. I have learned a lot over the years posting questions and reading real experts' posts (there are too many to mention) I am really happy to give back to this awesome community.
If a forum member gives an answer you like, please give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem. Thanks !!!

“There is a known software issue that a lot of people call a "memory leak". When the memory ram gets low it doesnt free what it should, stays low and you see a lag. Some have said this has improved with a recent patch, but others say they are still seeing it. One thing that helps for the time being until there is a 100% fix for it is rebooting the box  once a week or every few days all depending on how much you use the guide, dvr, etc... which frees up the memory.”  SinCara

The great news is that FiOS TV gives you a lot of channels to chose from. The bad news is that FiOS TV gives you a lot of channels to chose from- and that means a lot of time spent wading through channels you aren't interested in to find the ones you are. That is where selecting your Favorites comes in handy- but what happens when Favorites aren't working properly? Never fear- our users have it covered!

Unfortunately, a user's IP is considered personal information.  If they post a copy/paste, we are able to edit it out. However, when it's in an image, we have to remove the entire thing.  But when we message the user, we ask them to obscure their IP and to re-post the image.
Good reason, makes sense. But couldn't you edit the image (with an image editor) and cover up the IP address? I do that kind of thing all the time with images I post here to protect my privacy (although as you know I occasionally do screw that up ). Would save the confusion and need for the user to repost the image.

Mardin wrote our Post of the Week- and supplied his own answer!  Mardin was set to leave Verizon and go to another provider and put in a request to have his phone number ported over. However, he changed his mind and decided to stay as a Verizon customer (good choice ) and, unfortunately, found his phone number in limbo.  Find out how he solved this here.

First off, happy New Year! Our thread of the week is a relevant one in my opinion because, as the number of new tech gadgets we get grows, we need to find creative ways to ensure our wireless signal hits all areas of the house.  That's the issue the OP faced here- find out how he solved this dilemma and see if his solution will work for you.

    Interesting...
    My Beatles - 1 uploaded 11 tracks.
I can second the results for Petra's Unseen Power
    My Pink Floyd - Division Bell uploaded 4 tracks: 1, 3, 10 and 11.
"You Don't Love Me Anymore" matched for me.
The Kinks' - Come Dancing With the Kinks tracks 2, 12 and 16 were uploaded.  1, 3, 9 and 10 matched.  I do not own the rest.
I have lots of unreleased albums and demos so I uploaded nearly half of my library, which I fully expected to have to do.  A few matches / uploads that surprised me:
The handful of ACDC I have matched except for "Thunderstruck".
Green Day's "Waiting" from International Superhits did not match.
All Star United - International Anthems For The Human Race matched 6 out of 11 tracks.  The album is not on iTunes.  3, 6, 7, 9 and 11 were uploaded.
Jackson Browne - The Pretender tracks 1, 2, 3 and 8 were uploaded.
Jackson Browne - World In Motion "I Am A Patriot" had to be uploaded.
"The Living Years" and "Silent Running" from Mike & the Mechanics matched and are not in iTunes.
"Best I Can" from Queensryche's Empire did not match.
"Try Not To Breathe" from R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People did not match.
Tracks 1 and 10 from Bob Seger's Greatest Hits matched; the rest were uploaded.
Slaughter - The Wild Life tracks 1 and 14 were uploaded.
"Two Princes" from Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite was uploaded.
"Ace In The Hole" from George Strait - Strait Out Of The Box was uploaded.
"The Smartest Monkeys" from XTC - Nonsuch was uploaded.
There are others, but those are the most suprising.

How could they call it The Lone Star State?  Obviously there's more than just a single (all)star deep in the heart of Texas.  Congrats and best wishes to Justin and somegirl for a consistently great effort.

    Thread of the Week:
Got Interactive Media Guide problems- specifically issues with the guide not updating as it should? That's frustrating during the best of times- but during season finale time? It's down right tragic. Thankfully our Forum members have a variety of suggestions for you here.

I think Justin's picture should have won this one. Really I am not being modest! If I wanted I could have a Rev. E on one Channel, the first Rev. I on another Channel, the Second Rev. I on the third channel, and the 300N on the forth channel. I think I would need to figure out the overlap and spread them out, just to mess up the Neighbors.
Don't even ask how I ended up with two Rev. I Actiontec routers. The Rev. E I was told to dispose of, but at one time it was fine for a MOCA bridge. Now I have no MOCA.
