My 3 month old iPad is suddenly not charging with the adapter

Hi, this feels like a dumb question but when i plug my iPad into the 10W adapter directly into a wall outlet, the message 'not charging' appears next to the battery percentage. What am I doing wrong? It's charged with the adapter before but now all i get is that message. thanks for any help you can provide! Jeannie

Thanks everyone! I decided to leave it plugged in and it seems to be charging but it still says 'not charging' in the top right corner next to the battery percentage. It seems to be charging slower than usual though. It was at 44% around 10am and at 2 pm it's at 66%. I don't see the lightning bolt through the battery icon like I normally would. what would cause that? I really appreciate all of your help! Jeannie

My new iPad 3 for ATT (64gb) that I just bought from the Apple refurbished store is having major charging issues. I was using my old iPad 2 Apple supplied charger and a 6ft aftermarket USB cable for the last 18 months or so with zero problems.
I plugged in my new iPad 3 the day after I got it because the one I got the day before needed to be replaced. The one I have now is from my local Apple store. I noticed after a few hours, that it displayed 72% and the NOT CHARGING display at the top. I tried several different cables (I sell them and have a few hundred), three different 10W chargers in the next 10 minutes and none would work properly. I used the wall outlet, then tried an extension cord from my UPS and then the extension cord from the wall and that didn’t work either. Several of the old chargers, including the iPhone block chargers would tease me and start working only to stop a minute later. I waited for an hour or so and tried again, the new charger and cable did charge it to 100 % from the wall outlet.
The next night, I plugged in that same 10watt original charger again from the wall at 32% and woke up 7 hours later to 58% and NOT CHARGING again. I tried the original aftermarket charger and the aftermarket 6ft cable in the wall and got it to 78% before it showed the NOT CHARGING again. I’m now at work using a third party 10w charger and a generic 6ft USB cable. It’s working so far but I don't know for how long.
I never had anything like this with my iPad 2. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Should I take the charger and cable back to the apple store? Frankly I don’t think it’s either one but I’m grasping for any answer now. This stinks big time.

things that are normal for not charging
using iPhone chargers, using USB ports....they won't work. iPhone chargers put out 5W the iPad wants 10. Most USB's put out too little power to do anything but a trickle charge. So that part is normal.
However, out of all the combos you've tried, most of them should have worked. Make an appointment and get that refurb back to the store to be checked out.

If the battery has been completely depleted it may take more than an hour before the iPad becomes responsive again. Leave it on the charger overnight. If it does not charge up by the next morning make an appointment at an Apple store to have it looked at.

- Another cable
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Try on another computer
- Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and try to restore vua iTunes

Ipad 4 not charging with the ORIGINAL Power adapter that came in the box. Can't charge my iPad. I plugged in on PC all night and has been charged to 7%

Yesterday, as usual was going to charge my iPad, it was at 1%. Well, I took my ipad charger (original Apple official, I want to clarify that as a first step, I'm using the brand products than Apple) and plugged into an outlet ... The ipad began loading the first two minutes , then I got a notification telling me that the iPad could not charge with the charger.
I was quite surprised by the announcement. I disconnected and reconnected it .... again, I received the same notification. Then I disconnected and tried it on another outlet ... anything, yet. then I tried it on another outlet and ipad started charging. but after a while I had the same notice, not paying attention to that. I left it charging and I removed roughly 25% that of fear for something to happen. also remembered that situation (made 2-3 months ago where the iPad was not charging but after waiting a while disconnected, reconnected it and loaded normally).
so I decided to wait to re-connect the iPad to the outlet. This time, I plugged it into the outlet (fully discharged) at night and expected to find it loaded in the morning. But my surprise is that it still is off, it did not load anything.
I Bought the iPad in December 2012. Do you think that my iPad is hurt?
What can I do? Ay recommendation?

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again. You may also want to swap out the cable, just to confirm or rule out that it's bad.
If none of those fixes work, make the appointment at your apple store and have them check it out.

Does anyone know how to set up a sync.?

I have temporarily solved the sync problem by using an older MBAir running snow leopard, I exported
both calendar and contacts and imported them in the MBA and synced normally.
Since I'm not about to send my data on the cloud, or setup a server to just sync my iphone,
I think this is a good workaround ! BTW I stopped updating my contacts and calendar on the MB, I only
update the iphone until a permanent solution is found !
And they better come up with one soon, because I'll just switch to an Android phone and Ubuntu linux for my MBP, Apple should make our lives easier, not harder !
I'm sure Samsung is having a ball ever since the sync issue was made public !
Hopefully Apple is listening and will make things right again !

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info, then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information back here.

My iPhone 4s is only 4 months old, and it will not charge, I'm a little ticked off.

My Verizon iPhone 4s is only 4 months old and all of a sudden it's not charging, and the speakers work when they want to. The phone has never been water damaged. The phone has never been dropped on anything hard, always has had a case on it, and I'm seriously upset with this. None of my other apple products have I ever had a problem with.

It's under warranty. Take it in and let the genius have a look. If it's defective, it will be replaced.

Well, something's definitely wrong if it won't charge from a wall outlet. Make an appointment at a Genius Bar or take it to an Apple certified repair provider.

I have an iPad 2, which was purchased online in May 2012. My iPad will not charge - the upper right-hand corner shows a charging symbol, but the iPad does not gain power. I have tried the following:
Charging the iPad with the APPLE USB cable and APPLE wall plug provided with the iPad in several different wall outlets
Charging with another, alternate apple cable (in case the apple cable I was using wasn't working)
Charging with an non-apple cable and plug into a wall socket
Charging the iPad with an apple cable into my Mac
Charging the iPad into a non-apple laptop
Performing a soft reset, by pushing the home button and power key down until the iPad reset (tried this several times, before and after full restore)
Performing a full restore, which involved updating my iPad to version 6.0, wiping the iPad clean, and then restoring it from a back-up (tried this several times)
Charging the iPad while completely powered off
Letting the iPad completely die, and then charging it - it took me several weeks to get any power back and for the red charging symbol to go away - I did this by leaving it plug into my non-mac laptop for several days, after which it finally charged it back to 14%, showing the "Not Charging symbol" the whole time.
Removing my case off the iPad (in case the case was blocking the proper insertion of the USB cable)
Blowing on the iPad port to remove blockage from dust, etc.
At this point, I'm not sure what else I can try. I combed the support threads thoroughly to ensure I didn't miss any other options, but I am hoping someone else may have thought of something I didn't try. I know that the fastest way to charge the iPad is to use the 10w USB cable provided by apple, into an outlet. I have tried this several times - it doesn't work. The charging symbol shows up in the right hand upper corner, but the display does not show a charging battery, and the iPad does not increase in charge.
I do not live in a city with an Apple Store, so I am hoping you all can provide me with a solution, as it will be a 10+ hour round trip to get this resolved in person, in store.

When you say " tried to reset it ", does that mean you tried holding down Home and Sleep till the screen went black and a white Apple logo appeared? That usually resets my batteries and lets them reach 100% charge.
If all fails and the device has a few years on it, the battery may very well be dead. Happens to all rechargeables. A trip to the Store for assessment will be inevitable to check the charger, cable and device. And if needed, a battery replacement alternative will be offered.

Month old iPad mini died after charging.

unless you're really putting that cord under stress, it shouldn't go bad that quickly. It's possible that there could be issues with your iPad's port.
Did you buy that ipad new or used? If new and if it's still under factory warranty (might not be with a 2) then you can have the apple store check it out and make sure there are no issues with that port.

TS2634 iPad 4th Gen not charging with included apple 12w adapter & lightening cable.

So I've only has this iPad since Xmas.
It worked perfectly until a week ago when I started having charging issues with the stock accessories.
I plugged it in to the wall using the cable and adapter it came with and nothing. Not even the usual "Not Charging" message you may sometimes see when using an old computer's usb port. However, if I turn it completely off while the cable is connected to the wall, It will charge just extremely slow (takes about 12-16 hours for a full charge).
Its a 4th Gen iPad 16GB (Wifi only) with the latest software update 6.0.1
Here are the steps I have taken thus far:
I've tried isolating the problem using the accessories that came with the iPad (Cable and Adapter) and these steps below...
1. Tried different adapters and lightening cables (all apple products btw). Some will give me the "Not Charging" message, but still the same issue. Every now and then the lighting bolt charge indicator will show up, but it either switches back to not charging or will still charge extremely slow (and yes I've even tried disabling all the radio toggles such as wifi, location services, bluetooth, push, etc...)
2. Utilized the same steps listed with the accessories as above using different wall outlets
3. Hard Reset (Sleep+Home) then plugging in cable before, during, & after boot logo.
Haven't put it into DFU Mode yet & would like to avoid this for obvious reasons if possible. Any other options I'm not thinking off?

Make an appointment at your local apple store and take it in. there may be something wrong with the charging port or the software that tell it what to do. ANd that's something for the pros to deal with.
If you didn't buy it at an Apple store you can take it back where you bought it (depending on their return policy but most places have 90 days)
The reason I suggest that....I bought mine at Best Buy and it had charging issues. I took it into best buy (the closest apple store is over an hour away) and they simply exchanged mine for a new one. If you take it into apple, the policy is to exchange your malfunctioning one for a refurbished replacement.
So I got a new device instead of a refurb. Not that refurbs are bad, sometimes they are better than the new ones, but I liked being able to walk out with a brand new device instead of a used one.
Now if you bought it from Apple, then that's where you need to take it back to.
