I had the same problem- go to Utilities, General, Use Side Switch To, and change it from Mute to Lock Rotation- this solved the problem for me.

I've got options for 2, 5, 10, 15 minutes and Never. Have you got an Exchange email account on your iPad ? 'Never' can be removed so as to protect a company's potentially sensitive email - they may not want the iPad being left/stolen with the emails on it accessible. If you remove the account the Never option will probably reappear

HT1430 My I Pad is locked up. I got a message to update my I pad, so I did and everything froze up. I tried holding the sleep button as it says but a slider does not come up to shut it down. The apple symbol just flashes on and off. Any suggestions?

What can I do to unlock my I pad? When I did an apple update it just froze up. As stated above I held down the sleep button and waited for the red slider to tell me to shut it off but the apple symbol just kept blinking at me.
I just bought my I pad in August so it is still under warrenty.

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried that and nothing happened. There is a line going horizontal on the screen with a lock looking thing at the end of the line then there is an arrow that leads up to the I Tunes word and symbol.
I plugged the i pad in and will try what you said again after the battery increases in case the battery was very low.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Every time my Mac has been idle for a while and i go to mail or safari they fail as the network has been deselected even though it is on .My Touch never has a problem just my iMac I put the details back in and apply them and lock it , if i stay on for hours and hours no problem but if i leave for a while when i get back the network is not selected in the list … it is there just not ticked … the lock is still on and an ADMIN password required to change it is ticked .
HELP this is so…so… anoying .

Power Button Lockout is displayed.
The monitor's Power Button Lockout function is enabled.
Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to unlock the Power button function.
If the above doesn't work then try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

Are you following these instructions.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

You might have voice over enabled. Connect to iTunes and disable voice over under configure universal access.

it might be a malfunction in your device. you might ave to send it to repairation
1.ave you try resetting it or restoring it?

IPad 3 Volume Control says Sound Effects and won't adjust

Regardless of the mute button/orientation lock whenever I push up or down on the volume control buttons on the side of the iPad, the Volume indicator that lights up in the center of the screen says "Sound Effects" and there are no bars below it to indicate the actual volume, and it will not change. If I double press the home button, and swipe right to the dimmer/volume/play controls, the volume bar doesn't even show up in its location there. I'm thinking that the kids changed something in one of their games. And turning it off, or even doing the hard reset of pushing the home and off button simultaneously doesn't clear the problem out.

I just now followed the advice above, and solved my problem by using a different charging cable.
Must be lucky that the old charging cable is "dorked", and not the internals of the iPad!
The indication of a bad cable, I guess, is that the sound controls fade out after a few seconds with it connected, but they do not do so with a good cable.

BTW, some folks also say that the problem may be related to using a non-Apple charger or cable; my "bad" cable is non-Apple; the good one is the original (albeit too short) cable that arrived with the iPad.

Try:

- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
