  • Adobe acrobat 8 install affects all users who are opening PDF files

I am trying to understand how "Installing Adobe Acrobat on Citrix server" can affect users who are opening PDF files? Users who are trying to open PDF files are having problems opening it after I installed Adobe Acrobat 8.
    I appreciate your advice.
    Citrix Xenapp 4.5
WYSE clients accessing PDF files on our intranet
    Installed Adobe Acrobat 8

I have not restarted the Citrix server. I installed it and executed the application and published it.
If restarting resolves it then it is good.
After I installed Adobe Acrobat 8 last night, this morning users who were accessing PDF files from our intranet are not able to access it I am trying to understand what kind of error that they are getting. So, far 2 users have complained that they are not able to open the PDF files.
    One user's comment was this
I can't edit an application in Power Site Pro through Mortgagebot.  Mortgagebot tech support told me it has to do with Adobe Flash Player.
    Appreciate your reply.

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

As has been mentioned Adobe Reader cannot export PDF page content. Nor can it create PDF or manipulate PDF page content.
What you can do is use one of Adobe's online subscription services. Two provide for PDF  to Word export.
    There's ExportPDF and PDF Pack.

Does Adobe Reader version 10  supports IPC-1752-1 v1.1 pdf file?

I solved the problem. I used Internet Explorer, 64-bit. If I use Internet Explorer 32-bit the PDF-file displays in browser. If I use Internet Explorer 64-bit Adobe Reader X opens the PDF-file outside browser.

  • After downloading Adobe Reader X it changes all my programs to read from Adobe

Everytime I download Adobe Reader it changes all my programs to open from Adobe Reader: for example - interenet explorers icon is changed to an Adobe icon and it is trying to open up as an Adobe file. I have to unistall the program every time to get my other programs to work. What can I do from preventing this because I used Adobe Reader every day for work and it is a pain to keep installing and unistalling after every use!

    Try this -
In the Finder's Go menu select Go to Folder.
Type in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and click Go.
In the resulting Finder window look for anything with PDF or pdf in the name and drag it to the trash.
    Restart the computer.
    Now try viewing the documents.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (admplugin.apl) crash when opening PDF files

    Hi,
I did spend some time today trying to get Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to run on a Citrix Access Essential 2.0 server.
    Setup
    Server OS:
    Windows Server 2003 SP2 - fully patched.
    Other software:
    Office 2003 Standard, Danish, SP3
    Symantec Antivirus 10.1
    Adobe Reader 8.1.2, Danish
The installation is clean (1 week old).
    Problem description:
When opening PDF files, Adobe Reader crashes before showing any content from the PDF file. The module crashing is admplugin.apl.
    Work-arounds tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (DK).
    Disabling Antivirus (service stopped)
Replacing admplugin.apl with admplugin.apl from Adobe Reader 8.0
Uninstalling DK version and installing US version.
Adding user to local Administrators to exclude any permission related problems.
Deleting Adobe folders from users profile Application Data\Adobe\... and Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\...
    Turn DEP off
    Solution:
Finally I gave up and installed 7.0.9 (Danish). It works as expected.
It seems that the problem is known and a few user has reported this. One Adobe KB article mentions the problem, and the solution is to disable some 3. party diagnostic/support tools provided by DSL providers. This is definitively not the issue in this installation.
Anybody from Adobe having any input to this problem?
    Best regards from Denmark!

    Hi,
I am having a similar issue with Ver 8.1.2 running over cirtix with a similar setup to Jans-Peter.
The difference is that Reader opens fine but when you try to edit preferences it crashes.
This only happens on an citrix session. If I run reader on the server directly it works OK.
However after reading above I can replicate the problem on the server by moving or deleting the ADMPlugin.apl file.
    Any further ideas at all?
    Mark

  • Updated Adobe Reader to 11.x, now it does not recognize pdf files

Ok. I don't know how to explain this so I'll do my best.  Please let me know if you need more information.
I updated my Adobe Reader to X and noticed that all of the sudden any files that were sent to me via e-mail would not open up.  I use Outlook Express to access my gmail account because we have multiple accounts that we use and I haven't figured out how to do that with Outlook!  Anyway, this is always the response I would get.  It would ask me if I want to open this file.  It would give the name.pdf and the type is AcroExch.Document.  If I click open, I get the following warning: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.  Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.
Now if I go to save the file and I just saved it to my desktop, I can open it that way.  I don't really want to always have to save files to my desktop or whatever just to open then and see what they are about. I do know that earlier I was having the same issue on my desktop- that it wouldn't recognize the pdf file, but I figured out how to make that association.  So I'm wondering how to do this on e-mail.
I have the latest version of Adobe Reader, which I guess now is 11.  What else should I do?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jennifer

Ok sorry I've taken so long to respond.  The reply button wouldn't pop up for me to reply!
There was never a dialog box asking for me to select the program from installed programs when I open the pdf from outlook express.  But when I opened a pdf from my desktop it asked that question and I had it "always use this program to open this type of file." So I assumed that it was would work when opening from outlook express.  But it doesn't.
I've tried unclicking the protected mode button under the preferences general section.  And finally I'm not sure how to post screenshots of the attachment thumbnail and dialog.  I'm looking all over my keyboard for a button to push I don't have a clue as to what to do!  I do have a print Scr button but when I click on it nothing happens.  I've tried holding down the shift key and the button and the alt key and print scr button but nothing happens.
Could it be that somehow it's not recognizing ARCO.EXCH.DOCUMENT as that's what it thinks the type of document is?
I've already created an association for pdf files and it'll open them on my desktop, just not in outlook express.

What is your operating system?  Reader version?

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader, including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

    RR,
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.
Here are a few pages about struggling with it yourself:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50031.html

Failing a full recovery, hopefully you have one or more earlier versions and/or bits of artwork saved before it happened.

Your "More system details" list shows two plugins that can handle PDF filesS
    # Foxit Reader Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape
    # Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.0
You need to check which works and to remove one of them to avoid conflicts.
