My alias has become unlinked from my Apple ID - can I relink?

I haven't seen this issue addressed before- I appreciate any help!
I have had an Apple ID from the way-back days when you didn't need it to be an email address. Let's say it was username:Irene, password: XX. I have an alias in Discussions that's IreneJ and it's linked with the Apple ID I mention here.
Then when the Apple ID username was switched to have to be an email address, I changed my Apple ID username to [email protected] (this info is for example, I'm not revealing my real username and password), with the same password. My alias of IreneJ was still linked to this Apple ID.
Then yesterday I tried to log into Discussions (the last time I logged in was maybe 2 months ago), signed in with my Apple ID, and was directed to a page to set up an alias as if I don't have one! I requested the alias IreneJ and was told I can't have it because it already exists, and I verified that my alias shows up in the boards (it really is IreneJ).
So somehow my Apple ID isn't linked to my alias and I haven't found a way to access my alias (ie: see My Settings, My Public Profile, My Questions, My Posts, and My Subscriptions) and relink it to my Apple ID (even though they were once linked!).
I know I can make a new Apple ID and new alias (that's what I did to be able to post this message), but I want my old alias connected to my old Apple ID.
Any tips/help welcome!

Hi Irene!
Logging in to  Discussions has been problematic for some time.
Try this procedure.
Delete all the Apple Cookies in your browser, and empty the Cache.
Go here Discussions Sign In, and try logging in with your original Apple ID again.
If that still doesn't work, delete the Cookies again, and go to My Info, and log in with the original Apple ID.
If you get the error message "Your Apple ID or password was entered incorrectly.", click on "Did you forget your password? Click here for assistance".
On the page that opens, you can also click on "Forget your Apple ID.

If you can login using your Apple ID, then your account is in good standing.
Otherwise try here > Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" appears

yes, once paid for, you can download it for free on any other mac you own.

Display has become unglued from top cover!

About a month ago I noticed a slight misalignment with my cover when I closed it, and upon further inspection I discovered that the black plastic covering of the hinge was popping out slightly. After researching the problem via internet and discovering that many people had similar hinge problems, I (wrongfully) decided that I could wait for servicing until after university was over.
Well, only about a week ago, after casual dorm usage (not using it while traveling) I closed my computer lid only to discover that there was literally no resistance in the hinge as it closed, and that the problem stemmed from the hinge area of my display literally becoming unglued from the cover. I now cannot close my computer for fear of breaking the screen any further, and I was just wondering about the serviceability of this problem and what I can do to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Not usually.
Apple has had similar offerings every year, to which they always establish a time interval for elligibility. I've not seen where they give credit to prior sales on the education perks.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Topics become 'unlinked' from their template

After generating webhelp, some topics (but not all of them)
are no longer linked to their template.
This is an intermittent problem.
Using RH 5.0.2 to generate a 250+ topic Web Help file. On
approximately 180 of these topics I have applied the same template
(T1). The remaining topics use a different template (T2). At some
point in time between ‘Generates’, some of the topics
(approximately 15%) linked to T1 no longer display the template in
the generated topic. For these affected topics, the properties
sheet still shows the proper template is assigned but it’s
not actually using it anymore. I may have accidentally
‘unlinked’ one or two topics from its template during
the editing process, but not all of them. And definitely not on
topics I haven’t touched since the original output was
created in May 2006.
To correct the problem I have to open the topic’s
properties sheet (it shows T1 as the selected template), select
None as a template, click Apply, then select the T1 template and
Apply again.
Any ideas?
Additional details which may help:
1 – This original project was created from scratch in
RH5.
2 - The template in question has a header (print this topic)
and footer (copyright info and such). These are things that go
missing. All other formatting details are fine.
3 - There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to which topic is
affected. Affected topics don't belong to the same folder, some are
old, others new.
4 - This is the second occurrence of this type on the same
project. I have seen this problem on another one of our projects
(WebHelp on RH5), but it was originally created on a version of RH
going back to the eHelp days and it’s had so many authors,
revisions and upgrades I don’t dare bring up any unique
issues with it.

It's a bug, all right. But I thought it was related to
RoboSource Control. I'm glad (in a sorry way) that other people
have seen it, too.
We have had this problem in RHx5 and RH6, with RoboSource
Control 2 and 3. As far as we can tell, there is no consistent
cause - topics just lose their template connections. Yes, doing a
batch Properties change with OK will do it, but sometimes it just
happens.
It hasn't been a terrible burden, honestly. The hardest part
is figuring out which topics have lost their templates. There's an
option in the Topic Properties report to show the style sheet for
each topic, and if there is no template, there is no style sheet -
but with 2000+ topics in a project, that's not very workable.
And Harvey's right about the batch update in the Topics pod -
click Apply, then click the red x to close the window. RH7 may be
doing batch updates differently from RH6, but I say why take the
risk?

If my iPad is lost, how do I know when it has been removed from my Apple ID account?

I lost my son's iPad this afternoon. By the time I realized I couldn't find it and pulled out my phone to use the Find Phone My iPhone app, it may have been too late to set it up as lost. The iPad is still displaying in the app, but simply as offline. Of course, the iPad could be laying on the street somewhere, God only knows. However, if someone had reset the iPad and logged it into their own account, would it still display on my "Find My iPhone" account even if it were offline? Or, since they can reset it without being online, will it wait to refresh until they get it online? I am literally sick to my stomach, I just bought this 64 gig brand new mini two months ago for my autistic son, and he uses it daily. I cannot fathom the idea that it is not in the house, but if it were in the house, it would be connected to our Wifi automatically, and it would not be dead because I just charged it for him for our short trip today. How can I see if the seriel number is even still on my account? When I go into my account, it shows a white mini ipad, ours is black, and it does not show the same seriel number. HOWEVER, it does show that I called about the Mini on the 29th of October, so even though it is displaying as white with a randomly different seriel number, I did call about an issue on that device. Why would iTunes have a different mini seriel number set up under our account? If you cannot tell, I am freaking out. We're out $500 and I feel like there just has to be a way to get our iPad back. (Just for all of you KARMA beleivers out there: About a year and a few months ago, I was at the pool with my son and found a Kindle Fire. I immediately went through to find the owners information and contacted her to return it! There has to be good Karma for me in this situation!! ;-) ) Please, help me determine if the iPad is still connected to my account! Anything! Thanks!

I think you may need to book an appointment with a genius! They will fix it or replace it for you, for free!!! You can book an appointment at your local apple store at http://www.apple.com/retail

The error code 4MOT/4/4000003:HDD-1393 has shown up from the apple hardware test. What should I do about this?

My iMac has been running a little hot, it was suggested to run the Apple hardware test (AHT), as heat can cause problems witht he hard drive.
The AHT revealed the error code 4MOT/4/4000003:HDD-1393 which I assume means a hard dtrive problem. But, what do I do. Is this a critical error or a minor fault. Everything is running as normal, but the machine is getting a little hotter than usual.

This indicates problem with HD fan.
Exact nature of the problem is only known to Apple.
We have no way to interpret this error code.
Keep a backup of your data.
When you get a chance, take the Mac to the nearest Apple store to have it tested.

ITunes & iPhone has 50+ apps from another Apple ID

My wife and I have separate Apple IDs, separate iPhones but only one computer that we share where iTunes is installed. This hasn't been a problem and iTunes did a great job at detecting which iPhone was connected.
Starting about a week ago, there are 50+ apps listed on both iTunes and on my iPhone that are my wife's. I can't (and don't) want to use or see these apps. I confirmed that the Apple ID in iTunes is mine, but it hasn't changed the long list of apps.
If I delete on the iPhone and on iTunes, will my wife's iPhone be affected?
