My Apple Airport express loses connection

We have a 3-4 months old Apple airport express. When it works, it works really well.
We use it for streaming shows etc on the television via Apple tv and obviously to go on the internet.
We have 1 iphone 5s and 1 iphone 6, 2 iPad Air, 1 MB Air and 1 MB pro Retina so all our devices are pretty much Apple.
The express router is connected straight to the internet cable from the wall, so there is no router in between or anything. I can always connect with the router, but internet is not always pooring through. In other words, im always logged on the wifi, but it seems as something is often blocking the internet. It definitely has something to do with the router because I can be on the internet via the router on the macbook air while both iPads won't work.
I often solve the problem by opening network preference - assist me - continue - log on the net again - type in my password for the computer and then it works again. But this is obviously not a sustainable solution. And this is also not an option on the iPads, so when it doesnt work on the iPads it just doenst work... :-/
What is the issue?

  • Airport Express loses connection to base station

Airport Express second gen loses connection to base station, has to be reset.

Roger that.  Late 2013 MBP 2.5 i5 4mb ram, 10.9.1 Mavericks, formatted and hand loaded after questionable upgrade load.  Fast, flawless, no issues.
Airport Express configured to wirelessly extend existing network for the express purpose of supplying an analog
input to a stereo amplifier via airplay.  No other devices are connected to the AE.
The WAP is a Century Link Actiontec C1000A VDSL2 physically located 6 feet from the AE with no obstructions.
There are no existing proximal fortuitous distortion or RF interference sources.  Other 802.X networks near are
on non-conflicting channels.  The WAP is less than six months old and has no issues.
The WAP is configured  for MAC filtering with the SSID turned off.  In the allow list are two iphones, a printer, two more MBPs and the Airport Express.  One of the iphones is loaded with the Remote Ap which functions
flawlessly when the AE is connected.
The AE connects properly in the Extend Existing Network mode and performs as advertised as long as Air Play
    and/or itunes is active.
Some time after music has ended, the MBP has gone to sleep, or been shut down ... the Airport  Express loses its connection to the wireless network, with its amber light flashing.
Performing a reset and reconnecting is necesssary, and all works as advertised after.  Subsequently,
sleep, inactivity, or shutdown will cause loss of connection again.
I am aware the AE can be connected with CAT6, but that is unnaceptable.  If I had wanted to use wire I
would have plugged the MBP into the amplifier and saved $100.
My speculation is some sort of TCPIP flub in the design ... as in the AE does not natively transmit keep-alive
packets when it stops getting data from the Air Play computer.  It would be easy to decide whether to fix
the problem or return an inadequately designed product ... if there were any information about it.  No schematics, no operation description however leaves me only to say thank you for your time and hope
    you have the solution.

  • Airport express loses connection and blinks amber until restarted many times a day.

I have an AirPort Extreme as my,main router with a gen 1 airport express and 2 gen 2 express as range extenders to cover all 3 floors and outdoor area.  I have an Insteon HUB connected to one 2nd generation express and an Insteon IP camera that is on the far edge of the WiFi coverage area.  About 3-5 times daily, the express will blink amber and lose connection.  I need to either restart the network from airport utility or just unplug and restart the specific express. This fixes the problem but only temporarily.  Why does this occur?  Is it due to the wireless camera losing connection?  It seems to occur when I try to access the camera or devices thru the Insteon App.  I have purchased the additional express thinking it was a poor connection to the other range extender but this has made no difference.  I have been on tech support with Insteon for many hours, and they are unable to help.  Any suggestions?

Hello Daniel Epps. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Every few minutes, it seems to temporarily lose its connection to the internet and start flashing amber until it reconnects. It's extremely annoying. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it an airport problem, or a cable modem problem?
It could be either or neither ...
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal, and what I would check for first.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    o MacStumbler, or
    o iStumbler

my airport express was working and now it will lose the connection and I have to unplug the unit and plug it back in to connect. This keeps on happening. It appears to have the latest firmware 7.6.4

    Hey rrross324,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with your AirPort Express. A reset of the AirPort Express might help this issue:

  • Airport express loses connection to mac

My Airport Express works perfect when tested thru Ethernet cable directly to Mac. As soon as I move it (very close to computer and where it's always been), it loses it's connection with Mac and doesn't show up in Airport Utility. Any suggestions?  It has always worked fine where it is now it doesn't..

Is your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly, by Ethernet, to a Broadband modem? What is the make & model of this modem?

  • Apple Airport Express - drops wifi connections after a day or two.....??

    Dear Users,
Can anyone assist me, I have 2 Apple Airport Express recievers and an Apple TV2 connected to my iMac. The Apple TV is connected via ethernet and a gigabit switch via the BT Infinity Router. The 2 Apple Airport Expresses are connected via wiresles to the BT router.
Everything works fine, music streams perfectly most of the time.
But after 24-48 hours of being dorment the Router seems to drop the wireless connections to the Apple Airport Expresses, if you reboot the router they connect again immediatley. I have adjusted the router settings to 802.1n, instead of 802.1n/b/g, which seemed to work better for a few days and the connection never dropped and now the problem has started again.
Frankly its not the end of the world, but it means I have to reboot the router everytime we want to use all zones for music, which when you have a wife that moans that 'my setup is too complicted and has to be rebooted everytime', it would be great to resolve this for once and all.....
Have a I missed something simple or do I need a new router/Airport Extreme?
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

The whole idea here is to test by first powering off your "extending" AirPort.
Then, take a measurement with your laptop at the location of the "extending" AirPort.....to see what quality of signal that it is receiving.  Remember, it can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives.
You would want to see a minimum SNR of 25 at the location of your "extending" AirPort Express.  Higher would be better. If it is less than 25, you need to move the "extending" Express closer to the "main" router so that it will receive a better quality signal to extend.
Once you have a location with a decent SNR of 25 or higher, then power the "extending" Express back up at that location.

  • Apple Airport Express  N Ethernet connection problems...

    Hello,
I have just setup my apple airport express to connect to my belkin wireless N router F5D8636-4 v2 via Ethernet. I have turned all the wireless features off on the express as I'm only using it to send music to my DAC. It is assigned I.P by DHCP all other computers are manually asigned I.Ps so no conflicts. My computer is also wired to the router and running windows 7 64bit. It all works great apart from when I turn my P.C off.
When I turn it back on it cannot find the airport express over LAN until I reset the apple airport express by powering it down and back on. Is this right? Surely not? OR when im finished with my hi-fi should I be turning the apple airport express off?
    Anyone got any suggestions?
    Cheers

The Express can effectively extend the 2-Wire network if 4 conditions are met during the configuration of the Express to create a wireless network:
    1)  Same wireless network name as the 2-Wire network
    2)  Same wireless network security as the 2-Wire network
    3)  Same password as the 2-Wire network
    4)  Bridge Mode Operation
Most users know 1) and 3), but 2) is the real key here. If the wireless security setting of the 2-Wire and Express do not match up exactly....then you will have 2 separate wireless networks instead of the seamless network that you desire.
So, the first question....do you know the exact type of security settings that the 2-Wire router is using?  If not, it is not possible to configure the Express the way that you want without a long trial and error guesswork process.
You may need to contact your service provider to find out how to access the settings to learn what they are.
If you do know the exact security settings being used by the 2-Wire router, post back with that info and we can provide a step by step configuration guide if you want.
I assume that you are using OS X 10.6.8 as your profile indicates.

  • Connecting Apple TV, Smart TV (Panasonic) to Apple Airport Express

    Hi,
I just want to make sure i have got most of this correct. I want to connect from my router (via hard wire ethernet) to my Apple Airport Express which will then serve to my stereo (change settings in airport utility and also extend my wireless) Cable goes into the WAN port. Then an ethernet cable from the Airport Express (LAN port) to my Apple TV which connects to the TV via HDMI.
All i then need to do is find a way of connecting my smart TV via ethernet, how can i do this?
For information the Apple TV, Express, Stereo and Panasonic TV are all about 4m away from the router and my iMAC. I can only run one ethernet cable to my entertainment collection under the edge of the carpet. I want to connect all my kit via ethernet hard wire as i know its faster and i have been having issues with the signal becoming interupted from other sources.
My printer is already wireless but is located next to my iMAC so will prob hard wire this
    Thanks

You will need a small switch. Or you will need to use wireless on the ATV or the TV .. as long as the express is close that will work fine. Especially if you connect to the 5ghz.
But go into any computer store and buy a 5 port or 8 port 10/100 switch.. but you could also buy a faster one, gigabit which is more useful into the future.
Wire it without using both ports in the express.. connect everything to the switch rather than express and that will be fine.. especially if the main router is gigabit.
The switches will be $20 for the slower 100mbit and perhaps $50 for the gigabit..

  • Apple Airport Express connections.

I have 2 HP printers (4500w and P1102w) that I am trying to connect wirelessly to an Apple Express (old square box) router, which does not have a WPS button--to be able to print wirelessly from four different Apple computers.  Both printers will receive print jobs if USB connected to the computers or to the Airport.  However, I have had to relocate the router to a position inaccessible by cables, and I need to convert these machines to function wirelessly on the open network.
Some posts and guides say connect the printers by USB and hold down the WPS button on both machines ... but the Airport doesn't have one.
What other technique can be used?
    Gary

Thanks.  That worked for the 4500w.  It is online for all computers.  But not the P1102w.  Here is the situation:
First, when the 4500w was installed it placed a whole set of files in my "applications" folder.  When I installed the P1102w files they went to ...
HD>Library>Printers>hp>laserjet>P1100_1560_1600Series>  and in the last folder, 4 files:
hp Laserjet Utility.app,   HP Uninstaller.app,   HtmlConfig.app,   printerAgent, and   Status Monitor.app.
(And, the Laserjet Utility simply opes up a header on the computer address line, but does not provide a screen or any options.  Essentially, it does nothing).
Page 27 of the Adobe PDF English Instructions that come on the CD, explains how to configure the network ... it says to use the "Wireless Configuration Utility" which doesn't exist in the list above, and doesn't come up on any searches of my drives.  It explains the process of using the "Programs" or "All Programs" menu (which must refer to Windows, not Apples), and then the HP>laserjet>P1100_1560_1600Series>Wireless Configuration Menu item, which doesn't exist.
So, where do I find this Wireless configuration Menu?
One other point.  Following the PDF instructions, I was able to print out the "Self Test/Device Configuration" sheet, and it indicates an SSID of HP06E57E and it includes a "Bonjour (Apple Airport Express operating system nickname) Name" of "HP Laser Jet Professional P1102w."
And, finally, more thanks for sticking with me.  Hopefully, this will eventually end with a new procedure for you guys to publish in the help forums.

  • I Phone 5, not connecting to Apple Airport Express Wifi

I have a dual issue, I have comcast internet and am using a Arris TG862 all in one modem/router.  I recently had comast switch the modem to BRIDGE mode so I can use my apple airport express router for WiFi.  Now, since it is active and I can connect via my macbook pro, I pad2, etc I cannot connect via I phone 5.  What is the issue?  Did I set up my airport express incorrectly?
    Thank you

  • How can I connect Charter's DOCSIS 3.0 cable internet to Apple Airport Express?

    Hey,
Ive recently relocated & had to switch to Charter internet. They provided the wireless router for the time being, however, I would like to use my Apple Airport Express.
Charter says that I need a DOCSIS 3.0 device. I have no clue what that is.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thank You

By DOCSIS 3.0 device, Charter is referring to a version of a broadband Internet modem, not your AirPort Express. If Charter is already providing you with a wireless router they may be doing so as a combination modem/router or just a router. If the latter is the case, then you would still require a modem for service.
Regardless, what it make & model of the wireless router that Charter is providing you?
