My audio aggregate device is not stable in Mountain Lion - it was fine before I upgraded from Snow Leopard. Every time I reboot the audio aggregate device (MOTU TRAVELER, MOTU PRE8 1, MOTU PRE8) has to be reconfigured so that it is available within Logic Pro.
Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

Is Lion (not Mountain Lion) still available for upgrading from snow leopard
Is Lion (not mountain lion) still available for download and upgrading from snow leopard?
Lion is no longer available from the Mac App Store. Even the thumb drive version has been withdrawn. It should be possible to get it by calling Apple Phone Sales.

Can I upgrade from snow leopard 10.6.8 to mountain lion on my MacBook?
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and compare the model identifier with MacBook5,1, which is the earliest MacBook that can run Mountain Lion and newer.
A MacBook older than that which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available by clicking here. Neither Mountain Lion nor Lion support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion I cannot access a PGP drive which was generated under snow leopard. PGP does not start. When I try to start I just receive a message that Lion cannot work with PGP. How can I now access important and confifential informatio which I have stored in PGP (snow leopard). Do I have to move back to snow leopard. If so, how can I do this?
If you have this product,
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH165159
you have to go back to Snow Leopard.
To re-install SL, back up your home directory, format and re-install. -
I have really slow internet, i bought OS X mountain lion & tried for days to download it. my internet cuts every time & the download restarts from the beginning is thr a way to download the software as a "zip" file or from a link not app store?

Take it somewhere that has better broadband. The best you can do sometimes is invest in new modem that works with your system instead of the rental etc in most cases.
Do a Safe Boot.
Make sure your firewall is set properly. Don't use 3rd party. AV software can get in the way.
Make sure you are getting the service and a clean strong modem signal - slow is one thing but if it drops off and can't maintain a connection you have hardware issues, not software - and upgrade to a new OS doesn't tend to improve, it may even not work with older networking equipment once you do get it.
I agree and think electronic only goes too far. And when you do get it: burn the package and manually set it aside first before running the intaller! make a flash memory installer, put it on DVDs too. -
I see that OSX Lion does not include iPhoto; if I upgrade from Snow Leopard will I lose iPhoto9?
I migrated my SnowLeopard data to Lion, but cannot open iPhoto. When launched iPhoto tried to upgrade the database but crashes every time. Here's the log:

When downloading yosemite to upgrade from snow leopard (10.6.8) the download stops partway through and appears to have overloaded the internet, causing me to have to restart the modem.I have an Imac 8,i with 4gb of ram, which is supposed to support yosemite. Anyone else having this problem?
I am not sure it is the modem, but I use a Webstar by scientific atlanta provided by the local dsl.

HI, SO I BOUGHT MOUNTAIN LION ON MY MACBOOK PRO TRYING TO UPGRADE FROM SNOW LEOPARD, AND WHILE TRYING TO REINSTALL THE OS SETUP AS IT SHOWED IT COULDNT BE VERIFIED, I CROSSED OUT MOUNTAIN LION FROM MY PURCHASES, ITS NOW GONE, DO I HAVE TO BUY IT AGAIN?
Please google search for "Mountain Lion disk crash" before upgrading you mac pro. You might need to replace you Mac hard drive after the upgrade. So many people had the same problems including me.
Be aware of the Mountain Lion upgrade problem. -
Time machine can not access time capsule after upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion
Two days ago I upgraded my 2009 17" MBP from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. That evening my time capsule/time machine combination worked fine and did an incremental backup of about 12 gigabyte. Yesterday - only one day later - the time machine backup did not work anymore.
It appears that the system can not find the time capsule - even though it shows the remaining free space on the time capsule (so it did find it after all).
The message is always the same:
Time Machine can not complete the backup "Time Capsule"
The image of the backup volume "/Volumes/Data/Pauls MacBookPro.sparsebundle" is not accessable (Error -1).
I also can not delete the backup image on the time capsule since it is read-only. And I do not want to format the time caspsule yet since my wife's MBAir is also using the same time casule.
I tried out all kinds of suggestions (hard and soft resetting both the MBP and the TC, entering the password again, setting the TC up again) all to no avail. No backup is possible anymore.Mr. Zooot wrote:

Sounds like you got this message earlier:
If so, see #C13 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Offhand, I don't recall anyone not being able to delete one via the Finder (but most were only backing-up one Mac, so just erased the disk).
You may have to wait for that message to appear again (24 hours later), or you might try holding Alt/Option with the TM icon in the menubar, and select Verify Backups if it will let you. -
Why have my system preferences suddenly started to reset back to default every time I reboot At first I thought it was happening because I disconnected my Google account, but now I've disable that account and switched to Firefox. I wasn't sure how my browser setting could have anything to do with my system preferences and now I think it's some glitch or missed setting that is causing the problem. Oh & I locked my preference panel and that did not help.
In addition to what I say above, not only are all my system preferences being reset to default, but also the preferences for word and Excel. I'm sure it's affecting other programs, but Word & Excel are the main ones that I have a lot of custom setting for. Especially annoying is the fact that my ribbon commands are reset. All this started happening when I signed up for a Google Drive account. The only system updates have been the usual security updates. I deleted my Google account but haven't uninstalled it. I'll try this, but I can't figure out how that would result in all OS preferences being reset. Here are a few more:

I am contemplating upgrading my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Currently, I don't have ICloud available on my computer. I also keep getting messages to upgrade my IPhoto to '11 version as well as Pages. I know, I'm behind, but my theory is if it isn't broke don't mess with it.
My concern is I don't want to lose my pictures and YES, I have backed up with Time Machine to an external hard drive. (I just hope that's good enough). IF I upgrade to start using ML OS, will I need to restore anything from my external hard drive or will I be able to start using computer as if nothing changed?
I know enough to be dangerous and I'm hesitant to upgrade for fear of losing everything. Would appreciate help. Thanks!Charmedgreen wrote:
So it's alright to "skip" downloading the Lion version first? I can go directly from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion?
Correct, in fact, Lion is no longer directly available from the App Store.
Also, do I need to "empty my trash" before going forward?
No need.

As stated above, firefox loses my profile every time I restart the computor. I have created new profiles and changed the location and changed it back again to no avail. I now want to just restart firefox in default mode but the default button does not appear, not even in safe mode.
Yes. Sorry, I should have mentioned that there have been several reboots involved during the troubleshooting.
I am running Firefox in an admin level account in this case - so, there shouldn't be any permission issues there.
I have tried shutting down both the desktop firewall software, and the anti-virus, and the problem still persists exactly as described. (Obviously, I disconnected the system when I did that [smile].)
All other software on the system that I have tried, interacts with the file dialog just fine ... so, I don't think it is anything central like some corruption associated with the file dialog itself.
As I said, it is most perplexing. -
Hi,
Basically my computer is running on Snow Leopard. My father bought the Lion upgrade to install on his computer, however, it ended up being that his newly purchased lap top already came running with Lion -- thus, he never ended up using the Lion upgrade he purchased. Now, I would like to use the Lion upgrade he purchased but did not use to upgrade my computer to Snow Leopard. The information he gave me for this was the Web Order Number, Part Number, and Content Code for the Lion upgrade. How do I redeem/use his upgrade to update my computer to Lion without having to purchase another copy of the Lion software from the App store? Is that possible?
Thank you so much!!!Unless he controls your machine (same household), you can't. At $30 USD, pop for your own copy.

Getting a new CD from publisher is not an option as they would want me to pay for a new one and they are pricey. If possible I would prefer to keep my upgrade to lion but would go back to leopard if there's no other option.
You can add another partition on which you can install Snow Leopard. If you do, however, you cannot use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows. Just so you know.
To resize the drive do the following:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed. (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss. Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD and install on the volume you just created. Be sure you set the new partition as the target for your Snow Leopard system.
