If you delete them from the Photo Stream folder on your device they will also be deleted from Photo Stream in iCloud and your other devices. You can delete them from Camera Roll to free up space. Thanx for the link...here's my problem. I built my windows pc and installed 2 hard drives...but the larger one isn't accessible right now...not sure why...but the solid state little one is full. This is a problem I need one of my kid's to help me address. I have a lot of photos 'cause my husbands into photography, we travel a lot, and somehow thousands of photos he took, plus ones I took, plus videos I took, ended up on my iPhone...and they are different in a lot of cases from the photos on the iPad that we share. I know I have 2 address this someday, bu don't have time right now...and I can't take any new photos or videos...or even add an app for that matter, until I free up some space on my iPhone. We've already taken two brief trips where I wanted to use my camera and couldn't...and I was looking for a quick way to address my picture taking ability...because we are leaving for another trip in a week, and another one right after that. This is probably way more info than you need...but there are probably duplicates...but until I go thru them I won't know. I could be wrong, but I thought when I backed up my photos to iCloud that all the photos in the photo app were backed up. Maybe I'm wrong and it's only those in the Photo Stream...in which case I should do something about that as well, 'cause I've upgraded our storage plan twice now...and it is getting pretty expensive...and I don't even know how to use it other than to do a complete restore when you get a new device which I just did recently because my son wanted our old iPad for a graduation present, and I kind of wanted the better camera on the new iPad, so I got one...and it took a week to retrieve everything from the cloud on our wi-fi! I hope this makes some sense to you, and appreciate any advice you have to share!

One option is to turn on iCloud Photo Library on the phone and go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn on "Optimize iPhone Storage." Then you don't delete the photo from the phone but it does occupy significantly less space. More information in iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support

Hi,
I love iTunes match, because it brings my entire music library to all my mobile devices without being limited by internal storage space.
But, now I have the problem that my computer is running out of free HDD space due to my gigantic itunes library.
So, my question is: Can I free up hard drive space by simply deleting files from my computer, and rely on iTunes Match to download/stream those songs that I want to play after I've deleted them? It should work, right?
This operation clearly relies on iCloud to host all of my songs, where iCloud becomes the 'master repository', rather than my computer.
Has anyone been able to successfully operationlize this?

Actually, further to my last reply, I just played a song that wasnt located on my computer any longer (I deleted the file but left it in iCloud when prompted by iTunes). The song has an iCloud icon next to it. I double clicked it and it started playing. When I opened up the info windon on this song, the Location says "iCould". So, that leads me to believe that indeed we can delete the files from our master computer, and, stream them or download them from iCloud! How great is this? Can anyone coroborate this? Cheers, Mark

Deleting from USB does not free up space

I have a USB flash memory drive and when I delete files from it for some reason the space that the file used is not freed up. For example if I delete a file that is 6MB it will still say that 6MB is in use even though I have deleted it. I exchanged the drive for a different one but I am having the same problem with the new one. Any suggestions (other than going in to disk utility every time to erase the whole thing)?

Thanks. I got this far, too. I emptied the trash and the 'get info' for a SanDisk USB flash drive shows that it is empty (249.7 MB available). When I tried to load 103 photos all at once I get the "not enough space" message. When I load the files in increments of 5-10 files it works up to a point and then I get the "not enough free space" message, when I try to load one more file. This is after I've loaded about 103 MB onto the drive. Yet, when I 'get info' on the flash drive it shows plenty of space still available.
I have even checked the USB flash drive on a windows machine as well and it also indicates the same amount of free space.
Any suggestions?

Nothing. You will lose that backup but you will still be able to make backups in the future if you want to. You can also remove things you do not need from the backup, so you do not have to lose everything from your backup.

The title of my initial post is a bit misleading. I already took a chance deleting one of the iPhones, hoping if I deleted the wrong one, I can still reauthorize it (all with the same Apple ID acct, so not subject to 90-day waiting period, right?) The iTunes database just updated itself, and it says I have 4 "devices" "in the Cloud", but 5 "computers" associated w my account. How can I find out what computers are associated? Isn't there a list I can see? I dont have a clue what computers they might be. If I use the "Deauthorize All" option, is it a pain to add them all back in. I assume I would have to log in from each computer to reauthorize each one. Would I have to be running the newest OS or version of iTunes to reauthorize? I think I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium with an older OS and iTunes. I'd like to keep that authorized, if possible.

If you are having an issue with reclaiming free space after deleting photos from your iPhone, use the steps in this article to assist -
If you get a "Not enough free space" alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Specifically -
Orphaned files might remain on your iOS device if it's physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, you might see a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device in the Capacity indicator in iTunes. Try these steps:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes. If you see the "Not enough free space" alert, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes. If you see the "Not enough free space" alert, continue to step 6.
Restore using iTunes.

[The curious thing is, if I "move" the deleted emails from Trash on my iPad Mini into the Inbox, I can go to my notebook, open my online email and they are back in my ATT/Yahoo Inbox.]

One way of saving your sms conversations so that you can then delete them from your iPad would be to back up the contents of your iPad using either iTunes or iCloud. See these articles -
