My Captivate 4 files are 10x the size in Captivate 6

Hi,
I am trying to upgrade from 4 to 6.
I load up old files and save them - this works fine for Capivate files based on PPT.
For the ones based on screen caprture plus audio, they bloat to about 10x the size. I can't deal with capivate files of almost a Gig!
Detail:
I took a project with 200 slides (128meg), and:
1) Loaded into Captivate 6 and saved (728Meg)
2) Cut it down to 5 slides in Captivate 4 (108Meg)
3) In Captivate 4 I cut and pasted the slides into a new project and saved it (2.8 Meg)
4) I then loaded each into Captivate 6 and saved it (15Meg)
5) I repeated 2, 3 nd 4 with 50 slides and got 10x the size
Any idea what is going on?
Hugh

Most likely it's because Captivate 4 was predominatly AS2 and "old architeture" whereas Captivate 6 is AS3 only.
There is a discussion here that shows the same problem:http://captivate.adobe.com/captivate/topics/captivate_6_file_size_bloat
If it were me I would probably try and convert my Captivate 4 project to Captivate 5 and then from Captivate 5 to Captivate 6 to see if that helps.

No, that only means, that your raw format has a better compression. Converting to TIFF will not add any better resolution. Not the file size does count for better prints, but the pixel size - the width and height of the photo in pixels.

I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?

The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.
    I hope that makes sense.

    Thanks for the follow up.
Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,
    ATR

  • How do I export to AVI. file and make the size smaller?

Looking to export a film as a AVI file and alter the size and quality.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
you can use QT or FCP>Export> QT movie conversion but I like using Compressor.
In Compressor settings tab there's a button with a plus icon on the top right corner. Click it and in the popdown menu choose Quicktime Export Components.
You've just created a new untitled setting. It sits at the bottom of the settings in the untitled folder.
Drag and drop it onto your movie file just imported in Compressor. Double click it and/or see it in the inspector window. Give it a name and in the encoder type choose AVI.
Now (still in in the inspector window) if you click Options button below you can change a number of settings. Remember, the higher the bit rate the better the video will look but greater wil be the size of the video.
Do some tests to find best settings.
An example to use just as reference:
a 3GB DVCPRO HD video becomes 400MB AVI at 1000kbyts
    Hope that helps,
    G.

  • FCP file sizes are twice the size of Quicktime's - any advantage to FCP?

When I capture footage from my Canon HV40 MiniDV using FCP, the file sizes are almost twice the size as when I capture using Quicktime's Device Native setting. Is there any advantage to capturing with FCP, as the quality seems the same in QT? Or is there a way to reduce the file size being captured in FCP?
I'd like to be able to capture in FCP because if there is a dropped frame in the recording, Quicktime stops recording, whereas FCP keeps going and starts a new file. But the larger file size in FCP puts me off.

Not all codecs are editable...meaning, not all work in an editing application. I'm not sure what "device native" captures as in QT. Does it say in GET INFO? But FCP captures HDV and DV native, but in a native format that it can work with. HDV comes in as HDV...Dv as DV.
I wouldn't trust what QT is capturing as DEVICE NATIVE. And 13GB/hour of footage is not that much. That's the lowest data rate format out there.

Is there any advantage to capturing with FCE, as the quality seems the same? Or is there a way to reduce the file size being captured in FCE?

There is no difference in the two files. They are both DV Stream (.dv).
If you look in the Movie Properties window you'll notice that both tracks (audio and video) have the same file size.
Obviously, this can't mean that the audio track is really as large as the video track in data size. It means that the only way QuickTime can "separate" the stream into two editable tracks is to duplicate them (but ignore the video playback of the audio track portion).
I don't use Final Cut but I would suspect it might make two files (audio and video) instead of a single file made by QuickTime Player Pro.
    Confusing, isn't it?

  • Differential backup files are almost the same size as full backups.

    Hello All,
I have done a little research on this topic and feel like we are not doing anything to cause this issue. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    The details: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) - 10.50.4297.0 (X64)   Nov 22 2013 17:24:14   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Web Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (Hypervisor).  The
database I am working with it 23GB. The full backup files are 23GB, differentials are 16GB (and growing) and transaction logs bounce between 700KB to 20MB. The backup schedules with T-SQL follow:
    T-Log: daily every four hours
BACKUP LOG [my_dabase] TO  DISK = N'F:\Backup\TLog\my_dabase_backup_2015_03_23_163444_2725556.trn' WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT,  NAME = N'my_dabase_backup_2015_03_23_163444_2725556', SKIP, REWIND, NOUNLOAD,  STATS = 10

As you can probably tell we are not doing anything special in the backups, they are simply built out in MSSQL Management Studio. All databases are set to full recovery mode. We do not rebuild indexes but do reorganize indexes once weekly and also update
    statistics weekly.
Reorganize Indexes T-SQL (there are 255 indexes on this database)
    USE [my_database]
    GO
    ALTER INDEX [IDX_index_name_0] ON [dbo].[table_name] REORGANIZE WITH ( LOB_COMPACTION = ON )
    GO
Update Statistics T-SQL (there are 80 tables updated)
    use [my_database]
    GO
    UPDATE STATISTICS [dbo].[table_name]
    WITH FULLSCAN
    GO
In a different post I saw a request to run the following query:
    use msdb
    go
    select top 10 bf.physical_device_name, bs.database_creation_date,bs.type
    from  dbo.backupset bs

    Is your field ready?

INIT basically intializes the backup file, in other words, it will overwrite the contents of the existing backup file with the new backup information.
basically, what  you have now is you are appending all you backup files  (differentials) one after the other (like chain).
you do not necessarily have to do it.  these differential backups can exist as different files.
Infact, I would prefer them to separate, as it gives quick insight on the file, instead doing a  "restore filelist" command to read the contents of the backup file.
The point Shanky, was mentioning is that : he wants to make sure that you are not getting confused between the actual differential backup file size to the physicial file size(since you are appending the backups) example : if you differential backup is 2
gb, and over the next five you take a differential backup and append to a single file, like you are doing now,  the differential backup file size is 2gb but you physicial file size is 10Gb.  he is trying to make sure you are confused between these
    two.
Anyways, did you get a chance to run the below query and also did you refer to the link I posted above. It talks a case when differential backups can be bigger than full backups and ' inex reorganize' or 'dbcc shrinks' can cause this.
    --backup size in GB
select database_name,backup_size/1024/1024/1024,Case WHEN type='D' then 'FULL'
    WHEN type='L' then 'Log'
When type='I' then 'Differential' End as [BackupType],backup_start_date,backup_finish_date, datediff(minute,backup_start_date,backup_finish_date) as [BackupTime]
from msdb.dbo.backupset where database_name='mydatabase' and type in ('D','I')
    order by backup_set_id desc
    Hope it Helps!!

  • Published files 3 times the size as CP files

When I publish some of my CP projects the file sizes increase
almost 300%. It seems to be with slides that uses hot spot quiz
types. Is there a work around to avoid the large file sizes when
    using hot spots in quizzes?

That's unusual as published files are usually much smaller
    than the source.
Try doing a 'Save As' *twice* on your CP project file (Save
    As a new
file, then Save As a new file again).
    Then publish.
    Any improvement?

  • I am having problems downloading files from the web. After a number of files are downloaded, the system become sluggish, and then hangs. I traced the problem to the download history file: downloads.sqlite.

After downloading a number of 1.0 MB files, the system became very sluggish, and I started to get lots of (Not Responding) messages when trying to download or just use Firefox for browsing. Using Performance Monitor, I observed that the Firefox executable was growing larger and larger - up to as large as 1.2 GB on a system with 2.0 GB memory. Page faults were off the chart.
Looking for a similar problem, I found one that discussed the downloads.sqlite file becoming corrupted. I first noticed that this file was over 600 MB in size, so I deleted it. I then downloaded additional files, and observed that the new downloads.sqlite file would increase in size by about 150% of the size of each file that was downloaded. Once it would get up to 500 MB in size, the system started slowing down again.
I don't know the purpose of this file, but it appears that it keeps a full copy of every file downloaded, which may be the function of a download history file, but it does not seem correct that the file should grow in size without limit, and thus impact the system.
I would also appear that the Firefox executable is trying to read the entire contents of this file each time a new file is downloaded, which does not seem right.
Temporary fix is to periodically delete the downloads.sqlite file when it gets too large and starts impacting performance.. Apparently it is smart enough to open a new file if the old one is not found. I am not sure what the correct behavior for this file should be. Apparently is does not re-initialize when a new Firefox session is initiated.
Please feel free to contact me if more information is desired. I'm not sure what details you might need to troubleshoot this type of problem.

What is the exact name of the file?
    Is it aim.bin?
