My computer has been invaded by something called findr and it keeps taking over firefox. I've uninstalled and reinstall firefox.

Findr, whatever that is, keeps changing my default homepage to findr. It defaults my search engine to findr. I change it back to what it was and within a day or two it goes back.
The findr page says it is not encrypted and therefore my internet usage is open to anyone.
I've uninstalled firefox and reinstalled and it reverted back to findr the next day.

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • I am trying to sort out a Macbook that has been subjected to a scam attact.  It has been infected by something called MacScanner and is asking for registration to remove trojans, etc.  I have used 2 programs to try and rmove it unsuccessfully.  Help!!!!!!

I am trying to sort out a friends macbook that has been subjected to a scam attack.  I am a pc user so am struggling here a bit.  Her machine seems to have been attacked by a program called MacSecurity.  It is telling her that she has a number of viruses, etc and she needs to register to get rid of them.  A **** page keeps trying to open as well.  This type of scam is often found on PC's and is easy to remove.
After scouring the internet for solutions and came accross 2 programs that are said to remove it - I installed them and neither have worked.  The programs i tried were MacScan 2 and iAntivirus.  Both are free programs.
    Can anyone help please.

See this discussion for instructions on removing the trojan.

  • My home page has been replaced by something called searchq. No matter what I do, I cannot reset my home page to the site I wish. This is making me nuts. Searchq keeps overwriting the setting. What is going on? What is this website?

the full url that is interferring with my work is:
    searchqu.com/406

I did some more reading on the forum and found one suggestion that showed where in the program list I could uninstall searchqu. I had uninstalled iLivid and removed searchqu from Firefox but there was still a bit lurking under Windows - Searchqu in the program list. I simply uninstalled that and it fixed the problem. Thanks for your time...

  • My computer has been rebuilt due to a virus and I have lost all the music I have bought.  How can I get it back please.

Due to a virus on my computer I have had to have it re built and now all my music I have bought is gone.  How can I get it back again please.

If for some reason you have failed to do the basics and backup your computer, then you will need to redownload ( if this is available in your country):
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Or you could transfer from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

Your Mac has been compromised, erase it and restore data only from a backup that is earlier than when you gave the criminals access to your Mac. You should also change all passwords/logins for all credit cards, online accounts and government info (social security number etc)
    You should do this now.

  • General failure -the browser fails to perform especially after computer has been left switched on for a while.

After the computer has been switched on for a while and I try to access the internet - it fails to do so and the message I get is : -General Failure - followed up by the specific address/site which it cannot open. This is happening with increasing frequency especially when I try to open email links etc. I then switch off the computer and after a few minutes or even half and hour, i reboot and it then becomes possible to open whatever was not possible before. This is quite irritating however.

Thank you for the suggestion and having tried it with other browsers, I can now confirm that it only happens with FF. I like FF a lot and hate to bother with other browsers but it I have to, I will most reluctantly abandon it.
By the way, having downloaded 36 of your recommended ADD-ONS, I had to get rid of them(uninstall). They not only cluttered up the start-up page but noticeably slowed down the computer. ( I left about half a dozen). Moreover, what is the point of them unless there is an icon or a button that I can click on for instant access to an ADD_ON. Instead I had to search hard to access the ones that I wanted and even then was unable to engage them. For example, I download clocks and a currency converter but was unable to use them.

My computer has been infected by a Trojan Horse.  It has taken over my Mac email account and began sending out malicious emails to everyone in my address book.  I cleared out my MAC address book and began using my AOL email account. It took a few days and then my AOL email account was infected and has now been send out malicious email to all my contacts for over a month.  It has also infected my iPhone--I am no longer able to send or receive emails on my iPhone.  Also, once the Trojan Horse began using my AOL email it completely blocked me from using my MAC account by sending never ending popups asking for my email password to access my MAC email account, but it never accepts my pass word.  The TH has also slowed down everything on my computer.  It's like I am working on an old PC with dial up connection instead of the high speed digital connection that I have.  The little color wheel spins constantly as I wait for sometimes over a minute for a page to pull up.  If it pulls up at all.  I have tried to use the 2 disks that came with my computer to completely remove everything on my computer and then reinstall all the programs, but I am not allowed to sweep my computer clean.  I thought maybe my disks that came with my computer were defective so I called Apple and they sent me 2 new disks.  I am not able able to clear my computer with the 2 new disks either.  I have done this before successfully so it's not something new to me.  I do remember when I believe my computer became infected:  I had googled an unusual sewing term, and I was opening what appeared to be legitimate sites, when all of a sudden a pop up appeared that said that my computer had been infected.  I immediately shut my computer off, but it was too late.  I downloaded a virus program for Mac, and it has never found a virus or problem at all.  I think it is part of this Trojan Horse, but I am unable to delete it from my computer.  It refuses to uninstall.  The Mac Trojan Horse is real and it is terrible.  If anyone has any suggestions for me I would be very appreciative,

  • YOUR APPLE COMPUTER HAS BEEN BLOCKED

Recently, there is a Mac system alert says that "your apple computer has been blocked". It appears every times when i use websites. Indeed, some strange ads websites show up suddenly while i am using websites. What's more, the websites always break down since the alert appears. What can i do?

You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How do I know If my computer has been hacked?

I  think my Mac just got hacked into. I was working on a doc. that had personnel information- names. Phone #s and my home street address. my mac book pro froze up and when it unfroze, all of the names, phone#s and my address changed to ?/-\|# After I stared at the screen w disbelief for less than 1 sec. Word closed it down. After 2 min. Word brought the 2 word doc. I was working on back onto the screen. I looked at the personnel info, and saw the names, phone numbers and my street address in numbers and words. It looked like as if nobody touched my Mac. What should I do? I need help badly. If my computer has been hacked, the information they took, can they steal identity, credit card #s with just phone #s and first&last names besides my street address. I havent touched my computer since thus happened. I'm my iPhone. Should I turn off my computer? Also ididnt save the doc. I was working on. a box came up and said "this file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK and give the document a new namein the Save dialog box( AutoRecovery save of document1)". What should I do? I'm not making this up. I watched everything without realizing what happened. Should I have turned my computer off while it was in the middle of the proscess? Help! Help!

You have not been hacked.  Something went wrong with Word and it crashed, and something must have reopened Word.  (The system will usually ask if you want to reopen a crashed app...  did you see such a message?)  Word must have simply reopened the docs you had open when it crashed.
It's actually quite difficult to hack a Mac, and pretty much requires you to help out by opening it up for potential access by hackers.

  • Help* Getting a pop up that says Your Apple computer has been blocked

My partner was using my laptop yesterday and was trying to download the NHL hockey game stream from nhl-stream.com. He tried downloading it and downloaded MacKeeper and some video player. This morning I realized what he did so I googled how to uninstall MacKeeper and did so. I was unable to find the help file to delete for MacKeeper. I also deleted the video player and everything recent from the downloads. Now I'm havinganor problems with my MacBook Pro. When I use Safari it's no longer my regular Google homepage it's search-quick.com which I cannot get rid of? (Anyone can tell me how that would be helpful)
My biggest problem is the pop up that comes up and says
*YOUR APPLE COMPUTER HAS BEEN BLOCKED*
    Mac System Alert!!
System has been infected due to unexpected error! Please Contact Apple Care 1-855-680-7080 Immediately! To unblock your computer....
I Googled other pop ups like these on apple support and they says to hit Control W to close the window then change security preferences. The control W does not close the window I can only get rid of it by clicking Force Quit. Then when I reopen Safari either the Popup immediately comes or the first website i search it comes. Sometimes I also get new windows open for MacKeeper. This is very frustrating and I am still learning on how to work around my Mac. I have never found a problem with my computer before he went and downloaded the game.
IF anyone can direct me in the right direction to have this removed so it's safe again to go on my banking etc that would be great! I tried to call apple support but of course my call support has expired!

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.
If that message continues to appear, click here and run Adware Medic; the MacKeeper popups may also be produced by adware. You may need to use a different web browser.

  • RDLC Reports with Custom Font - Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

    Hi,
I got an ASP.NET MVC (Razor View Engine and C#) application running on a Windows Azure Web Role.
I use RDLC local reports to create pdf files with printable price tags with respective barcodes.
I got it working on Azure after installing the barcode font (TrueType) using a start-up task. Recently, it stopped working without me changing anything related to this functionality.
I'm getting the following error and so far I didn't find any solution. I know the problem is the barcode font because the pdf is generated well with a standard font like Arial. Also, it works perfectly with barcodes when running the app
    locally on my computer.

    Hi Vitor,
    Thanks for your posting!
It seems that the error may have more than one possibilities. I recommend you could try to use the Azure remote debugger to debug your cloud service project on Azure instance. Please see this tutorials:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cie/archive/2014/01/24/windows-azure-remote-debugging.aspx
You could debug your code using the cloud service URL.

  • How do I know if my computer has been hacked into?

I am having two issues with my iMac. One is with my wireless -- in the past few days I've received a few times an IP address error, which seems to be solved by renewing the DHCP lease and restarting. Also, at the login screen when I restart, it takes two tries to log in -- on the first one, my password only partially registers and the screen "bounces", then the second try works. Could this mean that my computer has been compromised? We had some workmen alone in our flat while we were away recently, so there are a few people who've had access to the physical machine as well. Thanks for any help.

  • My track pad is not working. The computer has been off for 10 days and I changed the batteries

Can someone help me with my iMac track pad?  My computer has been off for 10 days and when I turned it on the curser will not move.  The green light on the track pad would come on then off so i replaced the batteries in the track pad but it still does not work.  Not sure if the grandchildren were on it over the holidays could something be locked on the keyboard?

    1. Make sure that battery is in normal condition.
    2. Shut down the computer.
Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.
System Preferences > Point & Click
Try turning off three finger dragging and then turning it on after  testing.
    3. Is there any Bluetooth device nearby with failing batteries? If so, replace the batteries.
      4. Reset PRAM:   http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
    5. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    6. Close all windows and quit all applications.
Click the Spotlight -the magnifying glass icon- in the menu bar. Enter Disk utility in the box.
Select Disk Utility. When the Disk utility window opens up,
select  Macintosh HD, then First Aid.
        Click Repair Disk  Permission
        Ignore the  time remaining estimate.
Last 1 minute may take longer.

  • Since downloading firefox my computer has been getting infected every day

Have had this laptop since December 2010. Never had any problem with infiltrations. Everyone said Firefox was better than Internet Explorer. Don't know if it is a coincidence but since I started using Firefox, my computer has been getting infected every day. Have ESET Smart Security 4 and it will clean some of the files but shows error when cleaning others. Is there something I can do?
