My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.  It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart.  That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other.  They just won’t talk anymore.

    1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
    OS 10.4.11
    iTunes 9.2.1
    iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LL

I found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
    turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal.  :-)

My computer won't recognize my iPOD Touch even though it does recognize my Clasic and Nano. Any suggestions?

Well, now I feel like an idiot. I was using TWO CORDS. Ya, don't make my mistake. The one I had a problem with was made by a company that was not apple, and it was for CHARGING. I bought it with charger, and that's all it can do. It doesn't send data like the real cable. So, check your usb cables. :S

  • My computer won't recognize my ipod touch 2g at all

I know this is in FAQ and I did some of the steps. In Check the iPod touch Display section, it doesn't display anything even when it's fully charged. I know it doesn't need service though because it works fine on my other computer. When I plug it into the computer, it makes those bleeping noises like it knows something is there, but it just can't read it. Skipping down to the Verify iPod touch Driver/Service Installation section, step 3 gives me a problem. It says there should be a Apple iPod touch or Apple Mobile Device listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers but there isn't and my ipod is currently plugged in to the main USB port. I have also performed the last step, which is reinstall itunes. Here is the guide I've been following, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852 anyone have any suggestions that would fix this? If you need to know more information I can post it.

    Yes. 5.1.1 is the iOS.

  • My computer won't recognize my iPod Touch

Yesterday I tried to put one song on my iPod, but my computer and iTunes wouldn't recognize the iPod. I tried to get it to work but eventually gave up because I had to leave. When I got back home, I tried again and eventually had to put the iPod into recovery mode. After doing that the iPod was recognized, but I couldn't restore it because everytime I'd get to the Apple logo and the progress bar being on my screen, the progress bar would never move and I'd get an "This iPod could not be recognized (1611)" error.
Today I took the iPod and USB cable over to a friend's, hooked it up and it worked fine. The computer and iTunes recognized it and I was able to restore it and add songs. But when I got home, I tried plugging the iPod in and it wasn't being recognized again. I don't know what the deal is here?
The issue can't be the iPod or USB cable, because those worked just fine when I used them on my friend's computer. I don't think it can be the USB ports on my computer either because I plugged my keyboard into both and it was fine, and I also plugged a USB flash drive into both and it was recognized.
Anyone know how I can fix this or am I going to have to take it to the Apple Store?

Did you also check your security software settings?
Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Alsoattempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611. To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.

  • I ve done everything and my computer will NEVER recognize the Ipod.

I have tryed everything and it din't help one bit. I think it made things worse. can someone just give it to me staight and tell me what the heck to do? I need music in my life. I am tired of switching CDs man.

My computer is not registering the iPOD Shuffle when connected to either a front or rear USB port. I have updated the USB driver software. I have tried an older version of iTunes (7.2.x) and 7.6.1.9. When I connect the iPod to the USB port I get the message that this ipod was synced to a different iTunes (which is true but that computer died and is gone) and since I don't want to lose all the music on the ipod, I choose the CANCEL option. The problem is that the ipod never shows up in the iTunes source list so I can back up the songs. I can't update the ipod software because it isn't registered in the source list. How can iTunes realize that an ipod is connected and not register it in the source list? The ipod also doesn't show up using Explore. And the USZB port in device manager is showing the yellow triangle indicating a problem with the port. The properties box for that port states that MS is "disabling" the device. When I disconnet the ipod from the USB port, this yellow triangle clears automatically.
Anyone with any thoughts on this issue?

  • HT1632 I can view a workout on my ipod touch history, but not in itunes or on nike+ website.  I can't seem to upload this run and it's really annoying as I'm loosing about 12k of runs.  It seems to happen when I program in a custom run.  Can you help?

    Hi there,
I have just done a custom run on my Ipod touch 2nd Gen of 12k.  When I finished the run is appearing in my run history on my iPod touch, however it is not appearing in my itunes 'Nike+' tab, or on the Nike + website.  I can't seem to get this run to sync and it is really annoying because I'll be loosing 12k.  Can anyone help or has experienced this before?  I know there are solutions to add runs to iPod nano's and older iPods using the 'Enable disk' and iPod_control function however from what I'm aware you cannot do this on an iPod touch.  Can anyone please help?
    Many thanks
    Phil

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • IPod touch 3rd generation not accessing iTunes account through wifi.

I have a 3rd generation iPod touch with iOS 4.1.  I currently have no computer so I download music directly through wifi.  When I try to download music it asks for my iTunes password, and when I enter it the message pops up asking for the password again.  It does this over and over.  I am using the correct password and even changed my password just to be sure.  The same thing happens when I try to redeem an iTunes card or view my account.  Not sure if it matters but I've been doing this at 2 different Starbucks.  Any ideas?

It sounds like this may be the fix:

  • My Ipod Touch (4g) does not enter itunes.

If I plug my ipod in my computer. Itunes is supposed to start but it doesn't anymore.
Also if I start Itunes by myself, my Ipod does not enter it.
There is no sign that my Ipod is connected to my Itunes, so I can't synchronise it.
I've already tried to re-install Itunes and many other things but it still doesn't work.
I really hope someone can help me.

  • My PC won't recognize my ipod touch, though it charges fine.

It's very strange. My Ipod touch charges fine as if the computer recognizes it. In device manager it does not show up at all as any type of device. It doesn't show up on my computer or anything. I have reinstalled itunes a couple of times now and tried restarting the programs in service. I've tried restarting my ipod, checked all the usb connections. Still not sure what's going on. On another computer it works perfect. Yet this computer will only charge the ipod.

  • Why won't windows 7 recognize my ipod touch after the latest updates?

I have tried everything in the apple support links and nothing is working. My computer used to recognize the ipod as a device and in itunes but now it is not recognized anywhere it only charges. Is there anything that was done in the last set of windows updates that is making this happen? How do I get my ipod to be recognized again?
