My dad and i share the same apple ID and now we have the same contacts. Help please

When my dad got a new phone he got all of my contacts because we have the same apple ID so how do i get my contacts off of his phone and also if he deletes one of my contacts off of his phone it gets deleted off of my phone. Can someone help me? Thank you

To fix this, one of you needs to migrate to a new, separate, iCloud account.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow, then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • Husband updated my iphone to iOS 5 and now I have lost all contacts, photos, texts, everything.  How do I restore them?

Husband updated my iphone 4 to iOS 5 and now I have nothing, no contacts, no calendar, no photos, no texts , How do I get them back?  I am lost without them.  Feel like my phone is now just a phone.

The same thing happened with me. I was updating my husband's iPhone 3GS to iOS 5, and it lost his calendars and contacts. When I did the update, I let it do a sync and backup first.
Since that time, I tried to do a restore, and it only saw a back up from October, 2010. Where are backups stored? Are they invisible files on the mac? His laptop is a 13" macbook running 10.6.8.

  • I did have the ability to "save" in PAGES. I upgraded to "Mountain Lion", and now I can not "Save". Help please!

I used to be able to "Save" my material in PAGES. I upgraded to "Mountain Lion" and now when I go to "Save", it says "permission denied". How can I correct this?
    <E-mail Edited by Host>

Several users have had this problem in Mountain Lion. The system has decided you don't have read/write permissions. Have you done any updates to your system lately? Using Disk Utility to repair permissions after any upgrade or update, especially to the system, is a good practice. So first, I would repair permissions & then if you still have the problem, locate the file in Finder & go to File > Get Info & look in the Sharing & Permissions section. You should be the only one with read/write permissions but something has happened. Click on the words under "priveledge" next to your name & change it to read & write. You will probably have to enter your admin password.

  • Installed update and now i have problems...help!!!

Ok so I accepted the last update sent by apple..updating itunes and quicktime and lord knows what else. Ever since my macbook shuts down to the screen that says "hold down power button for a few seconds to shutdown" with a bunch of other languages saying the same (i guess our version of blue screen. I attempted to call apple but in their new tradition its all about the dollar. So I dont have the resources to correct an update from causing havoc on my macbook. I have no idea whats wrong as I have not installed anything else since. Just now my macbook went to that screen seven times in less than 5 minutes and the kid on the other end of the phone was like "fee"..So i'm reaching out to you in hopes that someone can assist me in finding and fixing whatever is wrong. Perhaps someone else is having the same problem. I dont have a mac store near me either.

That's a kernel panic. Start with http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html for details on how to fix it.
Assuming you don't have a bootable backup/clone, I recommend that you get a bootable, external HD, and make a bootable backup/clone before updating. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall everything. Then, peruse these

  • Archiving on FCSvr and now major error messages...help please

So I was archiving a bunch of stuff off to our archive device when this happened...
    *ERROR: E_FD*
    *file write error*
    *No space left on device*
    then
    *ERROR: E_FILE*
*Unable to open file /Volumes/DroboFCSvrArchive/7/Content2/Content1/RAW Footage Library/BELUGA BIRTH ALL/Beluga Day After/swim day2.mov for writing*
    *No space left on device*
    then
    *ERROR: E_DATABASE*
*ERROR: could not extend relation 1663/16385/16747: No space left on device*
    *HINT: Check free disk space.*
So, drobo is our archive device. It has plenty of room. The drive that is full is our system drive. Our system drive is completely out of room. It is not a FCSvr device. I can't find anything unusual about the system drive and searches turn up nothing (not indexed I guess).
So it looks like FCSvr was telling me that drobo was full. It's not. I can currently archive to it. But it doesn't help me understand why the system drive is full or why it was reporting that drobo had no room.
Until a week or two ago (last time I checked) the system drive had about 50 gig remaining. It only holds apps and operating system.

    Hi,
have you looked at /Volumes/ ? Is it possible that you have a 'dead' folder named the same way like you drobo drive in that path?
It's possible that FCSvr tries to write to the drobo drive, yet, the folder it really writes its data into is a local folder.
This can happen if your system crashes and for that reason doesn't unmount /Volumes/DroboFCSvrArchive properly during system shut down. Then even with the drobo drive unmounted, the folder remains.
If then the system restarts, your drobo drive gets mounted into the path /Volumes/DroboFCSvrArchive (1) or something like that, though in Finder it looks quite normal.
So if you find two similar folders at /Volumes/DroboFCSvrArchive, the solution would be to unmount and disconnect the drobo drive and then to move the remaining folder /Volumes/DroboFCSvrArchive to your desktop (by typing sudo mv /Volumes/DroboFCSvrArchive ~/Desktop/ in your Terminal, e.g.).
Now reconnect your drobo drive and copy data from your desktop into FCSvr.
    Hope that helps.
    André

  • I used my apple ID for my daughters new iPod and now we have the same number! Please help

I just started up my daughters new iPod and use my apple id and now we have the same number! How do I change this on my daughters iPod? I want her to be able to use my apple ID but I'd like her to have her own number... Is this possible?

Create a new ID for her:
    On the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Continue to use the common ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

  • I just got the iphone 4 and my husband already had on. we share an itunes account and i signed up for i cloud and now ALL  of my husbands contacts are on my phone ... so I started to delete them (because i thought it would just be off my phone) and he cal

i just got the iphone 4 and my husband already had on. we share an itunes account and i signed up for i cloud and now ALL  of my husbands contacts are on my phone ... so I started to delete them (because i thought it would just be off my phone) and he called screaming ..." please stop deleting ...  they are coming off my phone!" so two things ...  how can i get the contacts back ( i got up to j) AND is there a way to get them off just my phone

Unfortunately there's no way to get back the contacts you deleted unless he backed them up somewhere else.  He'll just have to recreate them.  This happened because you are both syncing contacts with a shared iCloud account.  When you do this, the synced data is merged and any actions you take on one phone (such as deleting contacts) is also reflected on the other.  To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).  To do this, on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.  After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The other phone will not be effected by this.)  Next, set up a new iCloud account on your phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload your data to your new account.  At this point you will have two different iCloud accounts, one for each phone, with identical data on them.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting the your husband's contacts from your account, and vice versa).  These changes will be reflected on each phone.  When finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.

  • I was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ?

i was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ? i dont need the pictures or the back ups , i want to delete them but they are not there

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.
