My daughter reset her Mac book Pro to the factory settings by her doing this did we loose all the pictures and stuff that was on the computer before

If by resetting to factory settings you mean she erased the drive and reinstalled the operating system, OS X, then yes all data thatwas on it is gone. That is why apple included time machine so you can make backups of your data.

  • My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it

My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • Replacing Mac Book Pro battery

I need to replace my battery for my original Mac Book Pro. Is there a specific battery I need to look for? Or do I just need a 15" Mac Book Pro battery? Do the older Mac Book Pro's run with a different battery than newer models?
    Thanks for your help.

    You're making this into more than it is. Tell him to get you a battery for your MacBook Pro. There's only one kind you can buy, which is the one I linked to.{quote}
Sometimes the simple link doesn't really answer the question. Thanks for clarifying that there's only one kind you can buy...and that's all I needed to know! When you said I couldn't use my girlfriends newer Mac Book Pro you more or less implied that there is a difference...but since you just said you can only buy one kind of replacement battery...that answered my concern. Thank you

  • Mac book pro battery only reports 3000mAh on battery.

My works 15" mac book pro says battery capacity is 3300mAh. I've tried calibration of the battery. I turned off power saving and left it switched on to run down battery but laptop won't power on again when the battery goes flat even when connected to the mains until its been charging for about 10 minutes at which point it says its got 1000mAh (1/3 charged). I'm sure it used to power on immediately from flat if on mains power.
The laptop is about 2 1/2 years old and currently my main use is at home connected to power but occasionally I need to use it on battery when it lasts less than an hour. I do have an apple care pack for it (not registered it yet! I know, its just been one of those things I've never got round to doing).
Can anyone suggest what I do next?
    Chris

Your battery is on its last legs and needs to be replaced soon, as System Profiler is telling you. AppleCare won't cover it. Batteries are consumables, and you've consumed yours.

  • How long does a mac book pro battery last?

Just want to know how long a MacBook Pro battery is supposed to last as in, what is the useful life expectancy?

MacBook Pros have used different battery technology since their introduction 5 years ago. Even screen size can affect battery life. Of course the big hitter is usage patterns, so what I get may be completely different from what you see.
The main factor is battery life is cycles count. YOU must be using the MBP on battery power a little every day even if you use it as a desktop machine. The battery must be used regularly of it will die an early death.
You should be doing 1-2 cycles a week. The concept of cycles is explained here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
Apple says a battery should retain 80 percent of it health (not charge) after 300 cycles. The batteries in my Late 2007 MBP have not been so gracious. The first one lasted 11 moths before leaking out at about 45 cycles; the second plummeted to only 50 percent health at 15 months and 60 cycles. Hopefully the newer models do better.
Probably the best explanation for battery life and health is this User-contributed tip:

  • Mac Book Pro Battery after 1 year...

Bought my Mac last year in march - used it sparingly then, and the long haul the battery would last for five hours.
Now, I use it for almost every class I'm in, sometimes with the charger, sometimes without - and it only lasts for maybe a half hour before completely shutting off at about 50% battery. I can't get it to restart until I put it on the charger.
I've had to download AdobeCS3, SecondLife, and one MMORPG. Are any of these effecting it? I've tried all I can think of to conserve battery power (minimal tasks running at the same time, lower display settings, etc) but it still blitzes out like crazy.
What can I do to fix this battery, or should I start setting aside money for a new battery now?

The Battery needs replacing. It is under warranty for one year. If you didn't purchase Apple Care to extend your warranty for another 2 years (including free battery upgrades) then you will need to pay for a new one.
You can check your battery statistics to see how many recharge cycles it has counted -- more than likely you are at 300 or more...time for a new battery.
One other thing you can do is to do a complete power reset, and see if that restores your battery functioning properly. See the MBP support page for instructions on how to do a complete reset (which is different from just powering down and powering up)

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My brand new mac book pro battery won't charge to 100% it only charges to 99%. What's wrong with it ad how do I fix it?

My new MacBook pro won't charge to 100% battery it will only charge to 99%. Please help!

Nothing is wrong, that is normal.  If you let it drop below 93%, it will recharge back to 100%.  It is a feature to prolong the life of the battery.

  • HT201842 Mac Book Pro Battery

What does it mean when there is an "X" where battery percentage usually is?

An X on the battery icon means the computer does not recognize that there is a battery installed. This is a signal that the battery is completely dead and you need a new battery. If your MBP is a model where the battery can be removed easily, you should take it out immediately. A dead battery can cause other damage if it swells up or leaks.

  • Mac Book Pro Battery Not Charging

I have a 2.2 Ghz 17' MBP running snow leopard. My battery is refusing to charge. While on standby power the battery seems to charge to 100%. but when in use appears to discharge quickly even with the mag safe attached. Mag safe lights show green then orange as the battery discharges and the battery icon shows the mains connector and the words (not charging) next to it. The icon rollover shows "Battery is not charging. Power Source : Power adapter". The battery info in profiler is below.

i have a 13" which is closing in on being a year old. about 3 weeks ago, i noticed that the run time on a full charge was diminished greatly. i will get about 21/4 hrs on a full charge. the only change tot he machine is the installation of a larger(500g@7200rpm) hard drive, 8 months ago. is anyone aware of a similar problem or is this typical?

Hi hotrod 45: Check out the Apple article to see if any of those issues apply.
