  • Dvd player won't launch when dvd inserted

DVD player has become erratic about launching when I insert a commercial video disc. Sometimes it launches, and sometimes the disc is simply ejected after about a minute, without DVD Player having launched. There's no error message, the disc is simply ejected. When this has happened, I've tried things like repairing permissions, logging out and logging back in, and restarting. These work sometimes, and sometimes not.
Actually, I'm not sure if the problem is with DVD Player, since the disc is not showing up in Finder, either.
    Anybody have any suggestions?

and....when i put in a movie dvd it works but not a dvd with files. Help?

  • Applet won't launch when using a search-engine cached or translated page

My applet won't launch successfully if the page is encased in a search-engine cache envelope, or translated. For example:
    * [url http://translate.google.co.jp/translate?hl=ja&sl=en&u=http://www.r0k.us/graphics/SIHwheel.html&ei=yR7xTNKLOoSdlgfK3YzeDA&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CEAQ7gEwBDgU&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dtrue%2Bcolor%2Bcharacteristics%26start%3D20%26hl%3Dja%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7ADRA_en%26prmd%3Db]Japanese translation of my Interactive Color Wheel
Is there something I can do in either the Java code or the HTML page itself to allow the applet to work?
The following appears in the Java Console on failure:

A potential solution occurred to me right after I posted, and I think it may be working. (Can't tell for sure until search engine cache's updated with this change.) Basically I expanded the .jar archive name:
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    <!--
    applet_fu.run(
      {'width':'850','height':'690'},
        'archive':'http://r0k.us/graphics/SIHwheel.jar',
        'code':'SIHwheel.class',
      '1.4.2',
'Get Java for free at http://java.com/ '
    -->
</script>Before the change, the archive line simply referenced 'SIHwheel.jar'.
The one downside to this, assuming it works, is that I'll need two versions of the page. A local one on my hard drive for when I want to test before deploying, and the networked version with the full URL. That's a worthwhile trade-off, though.

PS: the link in first post still fails, but it seems to be accessing yesterday's version of the page (date on bottom). Also I note that the HTML for that Google-translated page and Bing's cache page contain:
<base href=http://www.r0k.us/graphics/SIHwheel.html />That works well for accessing all the locally-referenced images on the page, but for some reason fails to find the .jar file without a complete URL. The [url http://r0k.us/graphics/applet-fu.js]applet-fu.js script does not appearing to be adorning the archive line in any way.

  • ITunes won't launch when iPod/iPad connected

going nuts! My iTunes will not launch when i connect my ipod or ipad. the setting to allow this is greyed out as is the option 'sync only ticked itmes'. I have uninstalled and installed iTunes several times. Changed as many settings as I can and back again. iMatch is on but that is causing me no end of grief too. Tried turning it off but that makes not difference. I can't copy a play list to ipod as it says iMatch is turned on on the iPod - it isn't!

Is the conmpouter authoris for the iTuens account?
Did you sync with this computer the last time?

  • [Solved] MPD won't play when started via systemd

When I try to play from mpd (after starting it from systemd with "systemctl start mpd"), nothing happens. In ncmpcpp, when I press play, it quickly shows play and then immediately goes to "paused". When I start MPD normally from the command line (just by running "mpd"), it works fine, but for some reason, some conflict is being caused by systemd.
Is there anywhere I should start to look? I don't really know how to troubleshoot it, as I don't know how to make it log without running it from the command line.
EDIT: I set up systemd --user and wrote a service for it. It seems that mpd was running as root and caused some permissions issues.

When starting "normally", do you also start mpd as root (since there is no "--user" in your systemctl call)?
I just checked and it is running as root, however, when I do
    systemctl --user enable mpd
    I get:
Failed to issue method call: Process /bin/false exited with status 1

  • Applications won't launch when a file from Finder or Dock is opened

With Snow Leopard i'm experiencing the following problem:
After a while of operating, if an application isn't launched and i open a file of that app from the Finder or the Dock, the app's blue indicator blinks for a very long time and when it's finally open the app freezes. only option is to force quit the app.
But i can in fact open the file, if i open the app first and then select the file with the open dialog.
    This happenes with every application: +Archive Utility.app, TextEdit.app, Preview.app+ and non-Apple apps.
When i reboot, the problem is gone for about an hour.
    Any solutions?

Rebuilding the launch services database sounds like a good thing to try - except on Snow, the directory LaunchServices.framework doesn't exist in the place that that link points to.
    Its now in /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister according to [Tuaw|http://www.tuaw.com/2009/06/11/terminal-tips-rebuild-your-launch-services -database-to-clean-up>
I've just rebuilt - I'll post in a few hours if it worked.....

  • Safari sometimes won't launch home page under Lion

I installed Lion a few days ago, and the Safari started to behave in an erratic way. When launched, it sometimes opens the home page that I've set in preferences, but sometimes it opens the page that I was reading just before I quitted Safari last time. This is very inconvenient. What can I do to make sure that Safari always opens the home page when I launch it? Thanks to all who can help!

I installed Lion this past weekend and am having the same issue.  I see that no one has rendered any suggestions or helpful tips to correct the problem, which makes me wonder if its just a few customers have this problem or what.  But I agree its annoying as can be.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?  I have set and reset my homepage preferences many many time with no luck.  Help!

  • Programs sometimes won't launch on MacBook, 10.4.7.

Lately, while using my new MacBook (white), 512 Megs RAM and OS 10.4.7, programs will suddenly simply refuse to launch.
They will either just bounce up and down in the dock but not launch,....OR...they will simply refuse to bounce at all - no bounce and no launch. This symptom affects both programs like Safari and Mail and all third party apps like FireFox and Adobe Reader.
I have noticed that sometimes, just before the problem appears, Safari will suddenly stop responding. It usually happens after I've been using the MacBook normally with one or two programs open OK for about 45 minutes. Quitting the open programs before trying to launch a third makes no difference. Same failure to open the third program.
The fix is to reboot the computer. A real pain. It will then work fine for maybe an hour and then the symptom will reappear after the first one or two programs have been run OK.
Any suggestions on how to trouble-shoot ?

    Hello Michael.
As a first step, check Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.
In addition, check Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to launch.

  • Java console doesn't launch when starting Java Web Start app from Firefox

Updated my Linux desktop from RHEL to Fedora 12 with resultant upgrade of Firefox to 3.5.9 and now when I launch our Java Web Start application, no Java console appears. The Java Control Panel still shows "Show Console" as set. My app uses Java 1.5 which I have installed on my desktop.
What do I do to properly configure my browser/desktop to support use of the Java console?
Please help, I need to debug our app!

..Please help, I need to debug our app!Cannot tell you the answer to your FF hassles (because I have no idea why you're seeing that behaviour(1)), but note that you might be able side-step FF by launching a JWS app. using the javaws tool directly from the command line or an Ant build file.
    1) Though you might try rebooting the machine if any installation/configuration changes have occurred since last boot.
Also note that many problems with JWS apps. can be sorted be checking the JNLP using JaNeLA.

  • Apps on dock but won't launch. Bounce but that's it

apps are on dock but mail, Safari, etc. do not launch

    Hey Stan,
That does not seem good, lets see if we can get the apps to work again. I will also for warn you that this may take some time to get it back up an running again because we will be isolating the issue. Take a look at the article below to start you with testing out those apps in another user to see if they will launch. Also try opening the apps in the Application folder on your Mac instead of your dock. Let me know what you find out.

  • Itunes Store won't launch when in Itunes on Windows 7

Itunes comes up on my computer fine.  However when I attempt to go to the Itunes store I get a message that Itunes has stopped working and that Windows is looking for a solution.  Itunes then closes.
I'm still getting automatic podcast downloads that I subscribe to.  This just starting happening 2 days ago.  Have used Itunes with no like issues for over 10 years.

Just found this and it seems to be working for me now.
I found this on another thread and it resolved my issue!
"I had exactly the same issue today with my Windows 8 PC, and I tried the suggestion below provided by another person in this forum - and it works.
Try adding C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support; to the system variables PATH
iTunes tries to use QTMovieWin.dll and that the file is in the directory
    Guide to add a PATH:
    Windows 8
Drag the Mouse pointer to the Right bottom corner of the screen
Click on the Search icon and type: Control Panel
Click on -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
    Close the window.
    Windows 7
Select Computer from the Start menu
Choose System Properties from the context menu
Click Advanced system settings > Advanced tab
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.

  • IPhone 3G / Applications won't launch/open/start...

    Hi guys,
Several problems appear since last night on/with my iPhone 3G...
When (for example) clicking the icon for the camera, it opens the camera, then freezes for a few seconds, then just kicks me back into the HOME SCREEN. Same thing happens when I click the icon for the Photo Album too!
What I've tried so far is to restart of course, and also a restore... nothing has happened... Is it worth it to uninstall a few of my applications to see whether it might be connected to that?
Could this be anything to do with the fact that quite a few of my applications (such as SnapMyLife and Sketches for example) have access on my camera and my photo album???
This is the 2nd version of the iPhone, things like that really shouldn't happen anymore - but of course - easier said than done... I'm happy enough if someone can try to get my access to a fully functional Photoalbum and Camera back!
    Thanks guys!

    OK, so more info......
All non-Apple apps would start, then throw me at the home screen after 2 or 3 secs.
I then rebooted the phone, deleted and reinstalled a free non-apple app from the app store and that worked. I then tried another free app and that worked, but my biggest paid-for app wouldn't.
I then switched off the phone for 10 mins, rebooted it, and now all the non-apple apps work again (very strange). (confrimed Brain Challenge started properly 3 times in a row now)...)
Since it only affects non-apple apps, I tend to think there is some sort of permission thing (when I re-downloaded a free app I had to put in my appleID for the app store again), does that somehow timeout and need to be re-entered ?
    or am I talking rubbish

  • Application won't launch when selected

I don't know if any of you play a game called RuneScape, if you do I apologize that you play it too. Haha. Long story short, I started playing a couple weeks ago and have to use the game client, which is pretty much just an application. When I clicked on the application it would open it's on disk drive and such. I try to open it today, nothing. Doesn't bounce, doesn't load, if I click it two times fast I get that god awful denial ding. I'm thinking it may be a Java issue but I'm not sure, is there anyone out there that an help?
    Please and Thank you!

  • Eudora won't launch when trying to email photos within iphoto

I use to be able to click on my photos and then on the email icon at the bottom and it would open Eudora with my photos attached. Now it just asks me the size and it starts to resize the photos, but never opens Eudora. I was also having problems with photos appearing as ! so I rebuild my library. Solved the ! problem, but did not solve my Eudora and email problem.

    TD
I FOUND IT. I had gone into the iphoto library and actually changed the name of the photo the first time. I laster found that that did not change the name in iphoto and once I found that I never gave it another thought that I may have messed up the link. iphoto could not find the photos. Once I changed them back I was able to email just fine. This was all my doing.
Thanks so much for you help!
