Did your friend also provided you with the original DVDs that came with the MacBook Pro?

Is anybody know why this can be happened?
As far as I know, Aluminum is never rusted!
This is really really disappointing.
I think Mac has done over claiming on their "unibody" - which was said form "single piece of Aluminum" by Jonathan Ive.Let the Apple folks - or an AASP - run diagnostics on the machine. They'll be able to tell if you need a new logic board or not. Get an estimate - if it seems outrageous then it's probably time to buy a new computer.
Just my 2¢...

I downloaded Mountain Lion in my i have macbook pro retina display last month. but I don't get airplay the option on my macbook. I went to display preferences, but the airplay is not available. What is the next step?
You also need:
Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software update v5.0 or later. -
I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc). I want to merge / consolidate the files from these newly created User accounts into my main user account. Is there a tutorial for this process, or any tips? Anyone?
Four transfers. After the initial attempt with Migration Assistant failed (after hours and hours of wifi transfer) I did "mini-transfers" of more manageable, smaller bits of files -- my music in one, photos in another, etc. Since posting my question in this forum, i contacted Apple support, chatted with Angela, and she suggested getting an ethernet-USB adapter for my mac, connecting my external drive with ethernet and transferring files manually -- that is, NOT using the Migration Assistant at all. She sent me this link to help: Switch Basics: Migrate your Windows files to your Mac. I appreciate your response, tho', Csound1!

anyone else with application incompatibilites?
Okay, so, fast forward from July to now -
- I've visited my closest Apple store's genius bar twice now. (Over an hour and a half away.)
- My computer spent at least 8 hours behind their closed doors in the workshop
- Several complete erases of the harddrive have taken place
- Most of the Apple geniuses I dealt with were nice and very knowledgeable, but they were and still aren't 100% sure exactly what is wrong with my computer.
The good news is:
- They were able to at least get it running again, with a clean install from their servers of OS X Lion 10.7.5
- They believe that my problems stem from either 1 of 2 things:
- Faulty Hard Drive (even though it is brand new)
- The wrong build of software being installed.
Now, while the wrong build does seem like it could be the problem, it doesn't make sense in the aspect that all of the initial problems began when the first hard drive failed. The same problems continued when I changed out the failed hard drive with the brand spanking new one, and only slightly improved when I was able to successfully install the OS that came with the original disks for my computer. I'm not convinced this thing is back to normal, but hopefully I can make it last through getting a shiny new retina Macbook Pro in the coming future. Thank you so much to everyone who read and replied to this post!

My MacBook Pro with Retina display suddenly gave me a message when I boot up ie 'Your startup Disk is full' then after using a few more times, the screen suddenly become frozen white. Upon getting help, I managed to delete some files but when I checked the Storage space, the largest occupied space was orange color, named 'Others' which is more than 100 GB out of the total 120 GB!! I am surprised and do not understand what 'Others' mean. It is definitely not Audio, Video, Pictures, documents etc It is not mail too. If anyone can tell me what 'Others' in storage mean and how to see the contents of 'Others' so that I can delete those irrelevant files. Any advice and guidance is very much appreciated. Thanking you in anticipation of your early reply.
Joe"Other" includes everything that is not audio, movies, photos, apps and backups. In other words it includes the OS, mail, documents... I should have a free upgrade to Snow Lion since the Macbookpro is around a month old now I have tried to upgrade to Snow Lion from the App store but it wants me to buy it . How do I get the free upgrade?
iWork! But Office 2008 or 2011 will run fine on Lion
Lion is awesome, and if you purchased your MacBook Pro since June 6th, go here to get a free copy> http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
The bugs are few and far apart -
I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro. Using the migration assistant, I transfered my old backed up (using the Time Machine) things to the new MacBook Pro. It created another user account with the old Administrator ID. This about doubled the space usage on my machine and sort of slowed down the machine. There are no Apple Stores in my area and the machine was brought from the UK. So how do I solve the space problem?
Thanks Neil. What I did before asking the question was simslar to what you suggested. I logged in with the new account, went to the Users&Groups pane, clicked on the other sccount and asked to delete. Which it did. With the older MacBook Pro and under Disk Utilities the space used was about 160 GB. With the new MacBook Pro and after the delete, the Disk Utility is giving me used space as 322.22GB (a difference of 150 GB all things considered). That I think was a substacial increase and I want to figure out why. May be I did something wrong?
Your help is very much appreciated.

Help!!!! Need help figuring this out
You cannot. There is no way to recover or reset the password except to restore the phone as a new device. You cannot even restore from a backup, because the backup contains the Restrictions passcode and will just bring it back. Sorry.

My brother-in-law recently passed away. My sister gave his MacBook Pro to my niece. When she opens and starts the laptop, it shows my brother-in-laws name. Is there a way to change his name to her name without formatting the device and starting over?
BigTex415,
my condolences for your family’s loss. If all she seeks to do is to change the display name, and she’s willing to leave the account name unchanged, then she could do the following: log in as the administrative user and open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. If the padlock in the lower-left corner is locked, unlock it. Select the account that shows your brother-in-law’s name on the left-hand side of the window, and then on the right-hand side, change the text in the “Full name” textbox to her preferred display name. If desired, click on the padlock in the lower-left corner to relock it. -
My friend was Bootcamping his Macbook Pro halfway when he cancelled it due to it running slowly, the Bootcamp Assistant cancelled but the Macbook froze after that and he had to force quit the application. When he restarted the Macbook, it showed the typical white screen and then it switched to a black screen with a underscore at the top left corner. From my experience, it is booting into Windows when it showed the black screen with the underscore and now its kinda stuck and unable to boot into Mac Os X Lion nor Windows 7. Any help for this? And this is a school Macbook with some Master Admin password so it may not be able to enter BIOS but perhaps we can select the boot device. He is screwed if it cannot be fixed :/ Thanks to all who help!
-Macbook Pro received at February 2012 (Mac Os X Lion)a friend told me that he wants my os x cd for my macbook pro to upgrade his imac.
The discs that come with your Mac are "machine specfic" and cannot be used on another Mac. -
I lose internet on my iMac when my mate uses his macbook pro in the same room.
My wireless internet works absolutley fine with no problems at all, no glitches until my mate turns on his macbook pro. Every couple of minutes I have to turn my wireless connection off and back on again. Sometimes this fixes the problem for another couple of minutes, sometimes I have to turn off and on the connection before I can get internet. I am connected to the network and can access my friend's shared files on his macbook but no internet. I thought bandwidth may have been the issue but it even does this while his macbook is idle with no internet activity from his macbook, he simply just has to activate the macbook from standby and that's it. I lose my internet.
Please someone help me, as he stays connected with no problems at all.Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number. Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem. unplug it for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in. Do the same for Apple’s routers. Wait for everything to reboot.
System Preferences>Network
Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

I just bought a used Macbook Pro. How do I make the changes to make it personal. Example the iTunes comes up as the old user and I have to have his password to make changes on the laptop. Can you make any suggestions?
Also I cant make a right click on the pad. Is that normal?Your first going to have to remove all your personal data off the machine to a external storage drive, do not use TimeMachine when it asks as this will copy the entire drive and is unnecessary at this time (also takes too long).
You need to drag and drop copy your personal data folders (Music, Pictures, Movies etc) to a external storage drive, once done, unmount and disconnect this drive.
Most commonly used backup methods
Next your going to follow the Zero Erase and install method for your OS X version, either 10.6 or 10.7, here
How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
10.7 requires your AppleID and password to install, so make sure to have that ready.
Once you reboot your into the real setup of OS X, which will require your name etc, so it's now your machine.
Install your programs, iLife package is only free for the owner of the machine.
If you have the 10.6 machine specific disks, then it's on there.
If your using 10.7, then you'll have to purchase it from the App Store.
Last, return your files from the storage drive, consider setting up a TimeMachine or clone on the external drive. -
I am trying to set up using my printer wirelessly through airport. I have a macbook and my husband can print wirelessly from his Macbook Pro but I can't. What do I have to do to set mine up? The printer is an Epson R2400
Is there a cd that came with the printer?
If so, put in the cd and that will help you set it up.
If not, I think macs come with a program that helps you set up printers.
Also make sure that the printer is connected to the same network.
Make sure the printer is on. -
My friend took my macbook pro's MAC address. Can he operate my laptop with it?Can he see what i do?Whats is the solution? If i change the MAC address will it help me? I don't want him to operate my laptop
Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.
