Sometimes just closing and reopening the Help window will clear up the problem. If it doesn't, log out or restart the computer and try again. Otherwise, you may need to delete the Help cache.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Trash. Log out, log back in, and test. Help pages will be slow to load at first.
If that doesn't work, the problem may be caused by network conditions. It may go away by itself, though I can't say how long you should wait.
A persistent failure to load help data has been reported as an issue with satellite networks. Test on a different network, if possible. I've also seen at least one report that Photo Stream in iCloud can mysteriously interfere with Help. I'm not sure whether that's true, but try disabling Photo Stream, if applicable.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Reboot the computer, see if that fixes it.
Then try:
Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and simply reinstalling OS X
Log in and update to 10.6.8
c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk
reboot and all should be fine, except some third party programs that install kext files, those will have to be reinstalled from fresh sources. -

I get the message in quotes on everything when I selet Help from an application menu. I get a menu of help items but when I select an item from that menu, I get the message. I have gone to that same menu in another way(I don't remember how I got there. Maybe from 1to1) and the selection works. HOw can I overcome this?

Help center window shows "selected topic is currently unavailable"?
when i open help center, it shows the safari or mountain lion intro page but none of the articles download.
it says " selected topic is currently unavailable" my internet is connected and works for everything but the help window, please HELP!I recommend persistence. It does that for me quite often as well, but the second or third attempts work.

Apple Menu System Preferences no longer works
When I click on the System Preferenes item under the Apple Menu, nothing happens, but when I click on the System Preferences icon in the Dock, the System Preferences pane opens normally. How can I reactivate the System Preferences item in the Apple Menu?

I offered this solution based upon similar successful advice which was given to another poster who solved this problem:Long story short I ended up reinstalling Mac OS X using Archive and Install. When I first used the computer following reinstalling Mac OS X, I was able to access the System Preferences by selecting them under the Apple in the menu bar. However, I have now updated my software using Software Update, and now I can't access System Preferences when I click on them under the Apple in the menu. The computer just acts like I never selected System Preferences.
Where have System Preferences gone??? provides another example of Previous Systems folder interfering with System Preferences.
Applications don't work after reinstalling Mac OS X explains a different problem with a Previous Systems folder: Example 1: You downgrade by performing an Archive and Install installation, but do not update to a later version of Mac OS X. The Previous Systems folder contains later versions of applications that may contribute to this issue.If you have proper backups, I recommend trashing the Previous Systems folder as soon as you can determine that the new system is functioning properly. The Previous Systems folders will either take up too much space or contribute to unexplained system problems.

IMovie 9.0.2 viewer doesn't work properly
Movies aren't playing properly when I review them in the Viewer. This is especially true if the clip has a custom title (imported PNG watermark). When the play head gets to a point in the clip that has no watermark, then the video in the Viewer "catches" up. It keeps playing properly until a watermarked clip. And so on and so forth. The exported movie displays properly.
Looks to be an issue with PNG watermarks? I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. This has been occurring in all recent updates to iMovie '11.
This is a MacBook Pro 3,1 running 10.6.7 (also has occurred with previous SL updates).Have you checked to see if Apache is running?

My App store doesn´t work under my user. Everything is ok if I start with a guest user. I have a Yosemite MacBook Pro. How can I solve this? Because I'm unable to open the App Store, Mail, Contacts and so on. Please can you help me.

The sync function on my 3rd gen iPod Touch doesn't work properly. It won't sync all the podcasts I've downloaded, and it won't delete ones I've listened to and deleted on iTunes.
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I have recently encountered problem of the cable. The thing is that if i use it just for charging with the plug, it works fine. But when i wanna use it with computer (i.e., accessing itunes, etc) or with my car, it doesn't work properly, it keeps switching between charging and discharging very fast. FarhanJust for all the people to know, I found out the solution. You have to mark the correct side of the charging cable which connects at inlet of the phone. Because this point acts as a chip when used as data cable or auxiliary use (car,etc). That's why it charges with the plug on any side. I don't know what's the frequency of it happening to iphone 5s users, because I bought it recently (iOS 7.1.1) Hope it helps to others in future.

Cabula, BrazilThere are two ways to run the recovery DVD, one is from Windows. Instead power ont he computer with the disk in the drive. And imediatly after powering on start pressing the F12 key. After a few seconds you should see a boot device menu that you can select the CD/DVD drive to boot from. Try that and let us know if you got the boot menu, and if the disk worked.

Old app doesn't work properly. update the dps version?
one of my old single edition apps doesn’t work properly. only the vertical format is running, the horizontal format is no longer displayed. is this due to the outdated dps version of the app? can I fix this error somehow? do i have to update/increase the dps version? i can no longer edit this app in the dps app builder. all other apps i can edit. does anyone know how i can fix that problem?

You could download and Install the Combo Update, Restart your computer, check the settings in Desktop & Screen Saver, as well as Energy Saver and see if that helps your issue...
