  • IMac 21.5" boots to white screen with vertical blue lines/bars then locks up

iMac 21.5" (mid 2010) Intel Core i3 4GB RAM with Radeon HD 4670 boots to white screen with vertical blue lines/bars:
Then it locks up after a few minutes, at which point the screen changes to white with these blue symbol things all over the screen:
If boot to Safe Mode, it still has the white screen with blue lines/bars, but eventually loads the login screen and I can successfully login and get to the desktop, but even that has the bars/lines.
Eventually, after enough restarts or hard shutdowns it will boot normally with no video/display issues. I've run disk checks, did the SMC and PRAM resets, checked logs (that I know of), and have even taken it completely apart, cleaned it out, reseated everything, put it all back together, but no change. I've read a few other posts about similar issues (but not quite the same video issue as this) where people had the logic boars replaced or reinstalled OSX, but that didn't always fix it. Any ideas? Has anyone seen this issue before? Thank you.

    Is this a dead disk?
    Very well could be.
If you can not startup from the Hardware Test, in Safe Mode or from > OS X Recovery  as discribed in the Support article's.
Dig out the original Install Disc set that came with the iMac and do one of the following.
    1. Attempt to Repair the Hard Drive.
Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
    2. Run the Hardware Test from the second Install Disc.
        1. Insert Disc 2 and Startup holding the D key.
        2. Select the Extended Hardware Test.
Then if you still can not get anything going, you need to contact your Local Apple Store or AASP and make a Service appointment.

  • Thunderbolt display with vertical blue lines

Hi All - My 2011 Thunderbolt display (connected to an early 2011 mbpro) is now displaying the dreaded vertical blue lines of old - any one else have any experiance of this?

    Hi askier,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may find the steps in this article helpful as a starting point for troubleshooting the display issue you're seeing:

  • Mac Pro with vertical yellow line on Monitor

I have a Mac Pro with a large monitor. The monitor has worked fine for many years. It now has a yellow vertical line that runs top to bottom. The line are dead center on the screen. Is there any way to get rid of the yellow line?

Double check (shut down, disconnect, reconnect and restart) your connections at the computer and at the monitor.
    Impovement?
Boot to Safe mode (hold Shift while starting).
    Do the lines occur then?

  • My macbookpro 15" screen has vertical blue lines

    Hello,
    I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2010) 2.53GHz Interl Core i5 running OSX Lion 10.7.4.
Generally the computer and screen are in good condition and have had no damage.
The screen has Vertical blue lines and there is a tint of blue generally. The startup apple grey screen however is perfect, it is only when it enters the login screen that the lines appear. All the colours are off. Other than these lines the computer works perfectly
The computer was used yesterday (09 June 2012) without a problem for approx 1hour. It was then left for the day indoors on a desk out of direct sunlight. The computer was switched on later that evening and the problem started to appear
I have already tried to reset the PRAM and SMC with no affect.
I also read that it may be a cable problem, however as the startup screen works perfectly i question this.
    Please can you help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

I suggest you take it to an Apple store genius bar or a repair facility for evaluation.  This is most likely a hardware problem.
    Ciao.

  • Vertical blue lines on external Thunderbolt display

I use an Apple Thunderbolt Display connected to a 27" iMac using OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). I've been using this set up since last June, but in the last 30 days or so I have noticed that vertical blue lines started appearing in the Thunderbolt Display. It started with one single pixel wide line at first, but now the section with vertical blue lines is about 2 inches wide. The lines are not always there. It happens mostly in the morning.
The display is still under Apple's warranty, but I wanted to find out if there's anything I can do to fix the problem before deciding to take the display to the nearest Apple Store.

If touching the tab can make the problem go away, perhaps you can put a piece of compressible material, like weather stripping, in the assembly such that when you bolt it all back together the material keeps pressure on the tab same as if you had your finger on it. OK, that's a long shot. But there is no other way to restore a failed tab bond that I am aware of.

  • I repaired a cracked iphone 5c screen now I have a black screen with a vertical blue line on the left hand side of the screen. please help!!

    Hi all,
Please help, I repaired an iphone 5c and have now tried two different lcd screens on it but all I get is a black screen or a black screen with a vertical blue line on the left hand side of the screen. I definitely have the cables connected properly etc and before I repaired it the phone had a cracked screen and there was a picture on it.
I have tried hard reset and nothing. I have tried connecting to iTunes but it asks me to confirm on the iPhone which I can't do as there is nothing on the display.  I have tried randomly pressing all over the screen but it doesn't work. So I can't even try restoring it on iTunes.
Please help any advice will be appreciated! I successfully have repaired iphone 4's and iphone 5 before but this is the first iphone 5c.
    Thanks.

Since you were successful the last two times, I'm sure you will figure it out.

  • Vertical blue line won't go away ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ?

I have a vertical blue line on my MBP display, only one pixel thick but all the way top to bottom. Location-wise, in the finder menu the line runs between the 'e' and 'l' of the 'help' option - about 4" from the left of the screen.
The problem persists after a restart and stays there no matter which app I'm using. It's most noticable when the screen is displaying a darker image but when displaying a white/light/bright background (like the apple discussions) it's hardly noticable.
Seems to me like I have a vertical line of dead pixels and it needs to go back to apple for a replacement. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM? and can anyone confirm that this means dead pixels, I've never experienced it before.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello there. This problem is definitely a defect in the LCD display. Take it back to Apple for repair. I have had this happen with an old iBook.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • Vertical Blue Lines - Please help!!

I've got a G5 with 2 30" Cinema Screens. On my main screen there are often vertical blue lines that appear. I was told that this might be a graphics card issue and that I should unplug one of the screens. I've done that & if anything the blue lines are worse...
Having done a search I've found some archived questions but they don't have any solved answers. Is my screen totally bust & needing to go back to apple or can I change some settings here?

Could still very well be your video card. It probably has some bit addressing issues. Try swapping video cards with a friend or have the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store use a good video card to diagnose the problem. If the blue lines disappear, replace the video card.
If the blue lines still appear on your displays, then run Apple Hardware Test and check for any error codes. Write down any error codes and bring them to your local Apple Store. Either way, you are looking at a display replacement and/or repair.

  • White with vertical colored lines on Equium A60

    Hi
I am new to this but really need your help. My laptop is about 18 months old and has always worked fine. Last week I plugged a broadband modem into it through an Ethernet cable and set up broadband. A couple of minutes after doing this when I looked at the screen again, it had gone all white with vertical colored lines down it. I have rebooted the machine etc and that is all I ever get now. As soon as I switch on, it just goes straight to white with these vertical colored lines.
I have tried connecting an external monitor to it and that works fine. The laptop is a Toshiba Equium A60. I am worried that the screen has blown, is it possible for a surge or something like that to come down the Ethernet cable and blow the screen?
    Thanks
    Adrian

Display functionality has nothing to do with Ethernet cable. Test with external monitor is very good and on this way you can see if maybe graphic card is responsible for that.
According to your description I believe that display is the problem. Of course, just intensive display test can give more answers.

when i take a picture with flash in a dark place , the photo appears with a blue line . how can i default this ? is this normal ???

You probably have a filter set for the normal camera mode but not the square.
To fix, in Photo mode, touch the filter icon (three circles) and select None for the filter.

Backup your files to a external hard drive and disconnect.
Call Apple and make a warranty call, then take it to the nearest Apple Store etc.
You can run these things and it might clear your issue or give further informaiton
    Perform a hardware check
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
Then see if resetting the SMC/PRAM resolve your issue
