My iMac can't find my network/TM but wireless works for 3 other computers

All of a sudden my Mac couldn't connect to my wireless network. I ran the Network Diagnostic and my network can't be found...but my two PCs and my iBook in the house are connected to the network and are working...I tried Airport Utility but it doesn't "see" my Time Machine at all...is this an iMac problem or a Time Machine problem? I've rebooted my iMac and nothing...i've rebooted my TM and nothing...

Having you tried shutting everything down, waiting a few minutes, then turn on your cable modem, wait, turn on your TC, wait, then turn on your Macs and peripherals one at a time.
Of course check cables, too.

That's not the way wifi works.
You may see the other networks but you are not connected to them in any way.

  • IMAC can't find N network with TC firmware 7.4.1 and 7.4.2

Hello, I have a problem since I upgraded my TC from 7.3.2 to 7.4.1 and 7.4.2.
both my two IMACs can't find the TC N network, only if I downgrade to 7.3.2 they actually find and connect to the TC N network.
please let me know if the only solution is not to upgrade the firmware.
    thanks
    Fabrizio

Same here: 7.1.1 works but 7.2.1 & 7.3.1 do not with the same symptoms.
In fact there are now several threads reporting the same loss of internet connectivity. Happily reverting to 7.1.1 restores connectivity.

  • Network Password not accepted, works on other computers

We have an Airport extreme (looks like a UFO). Everything worked fine last night, but this morning our MacBook Pro cannot join the network because the password times out - Have rebooted both computes and Airport, no success. Other computers in the house can still log on to the network with the same (old) password - Any help?

Hello Barbara Raley. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Try the following on your MacBook Pro:
    1. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
o In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
o Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    2. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
o Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
o Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
o Restart, or log out then back in.
    3. Add Preferred Network(s)
    o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
o In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
o Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
o Restart or log out then back in.
If this doesn't solve the problem, I suggest disabling wireless encryption on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and then, reestablish it with a completely new password.

  • Can no longer toggle to enlarge Twitter embed box; can no longer select category on Movable Type; works for other browsers.

I can no longer enlarge the Twitter embed box or even select and scroll in order to copy and paste all the code. Also, in Movable Type I can no longer select the category for our entries. So "boxes" aren't working. They do work in Safari, so it looks like a browser issue. I'm on Firefox 16.0.1 and Mac OS X 10.7.5. Problem just started on October 12.

You may have a problem with the "can't delete" or it may have been an isolated out of synch condition.
I have noticed that the "express" watch/delete process only works when you watch from oldest to newest.
also, there is that ridiculous extra step where it alerts you that there are no more episodes left. How about replacing that with an episode counter that tells how many are left when given the choice to watch more.
After the last one, just move on like it works for everything else. Whoever had the idea to add the "no more" message must have done it intending to iritate cusrtomers. That is the only possible reason for it.

  • HT4236 I am trying to delete some photos that I imported from my computer, but I can't find a set of instructions that work for my iPod touch 4

I can't seem to get rid of some photos that I imported from my computer. Could someone guide me on the precise procedure?

    1) Connect your iPod to your machine and open iTunes
    2) Select your iPod from the Itunes sidebar. If the sidebar is unavailable (View > Show sidebar)
    3) After you click your iPod device, navigate over to the 'Photos' Tab
    4) Uncheck 'Sync Photos from: ____'
    5) Click sync in the bottom right hand corner and the photos will be removed from your iPod.

Want to stream my music wireless to the stereo.
It works fine with my iphone and ipad but it doesn't with my macbook.
I see the station after clicking the symbol in itunes but after a short while of searching it stopps without connection.
What do I need to do. Some setup on my macbook?

Also, the new AirPort Utility can't see the Airport Express either, and the option for multiple speakers has vanished from the bottom right corner in iTunes.

None of my online games work on my laptop. I updated Adobe Flash player but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I didn't see anything wrong with the old version and now there is definitely something wrong with this new version. Everything worked just fine last night and now none of it works. Why is that?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I was forced to update to the new version of firefox.

ive never had any problems with ap[ple products in the past... this is a first and a stupid problem if you ask me

  • New iMac can't find photosmart 2610 over network -- HELP

Just got a new iMac 24" 2.8gig with Leopard. Most of the setup went fine, but the computer steadfastly refuses to see my printer over the wireless network. It is an HP Photosmart 2610.
I have used the same printer wirelessly with a MacBook Pro with no problem -- it found it right away, though that was with Tiger (it still worked after it was upgraded to Leopard). It also works great with 3 Windows WP PC's, two wirelessly and one via ethernet.
My Router is a Cisco 800 series and I use a Cisco WAP. The iMac had no problem connecting to the WAP and Internet.
The core problem is the iMac doesn't acknowledge that the printer exists. It doesn't find it automatically and when I direct it to the correct IP is still doesn't find it. Also, Leopard doesn't seem to have the driver for it. When I search for drivers from the pull-down after entering the IP I get a bizillion HP options including many Photosmart's. But the lowest model # without a letter in front of it is the 3300.
I then tried downloading the dirver from HP. It said it installed successfully but still didn't show the driver from the pull-down. When I tried used "other" and directing it straight to the driver it would act like nothing happened and come back to the same pull-down without the 2610 as a choice. I also tried installing HP's entire all-in-one software suite for 10.5. It installed sucessfully but also doesn't see the printer.
I tried temporarily moving the iMac and connecting it to the 2610 via USB. It suddenly found it no problem -- both the iMac software and the HP software. And it worked fine... The moment it was back via network, it doesn't find it despite it still working fine from every other device in the household.
Not sure what there is left to try. It is not an option to permanently have it connected by USB. I spoke with HP and they say that because it works from every other device. They say it is an Apple issue. Apple says it must be an HP driver issue points me back to HP. So I am left in limbo with no functional printing capacity.
I've tried searching the Internet for any reports on this but can't find them. Others seem to be successfully using the 2610, though it is unclear if others were using it via the Network.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am beginning to wonder if HP ceased supporting the network functionality in their 10.5 driver update but I can't get an answer on this.
    Thanks.

To be specific, since the Apple Printers and Faxes function does not find it in the "Default" list, I select "IP" and then enter the valid IP address that I know to be for the printer. I have tested it multiple times from other devices to confirm the IP address and even printed a network diagnostics page from the printer to confirm it. I even had someone else review it for typos just to cross every base...
It then accepts it as a "valid" IP address and assigns it a "Generic Postscript Printer." I then chose the pull down for "other" drivers. I just checked again. There is no driver called "HP IP". There are hundreds of HP drivers those. I am looking for the HP Photosmart 2600 series. But the lowest series they list is the HP Photosmart 3100 series.
Again, I have covered all the bases I can think of. The Apple site lists the 2600 series as an included driver in Leopard but it isn't showing up. The HP site lists the 2610 as "Leopard ready." I have downloaded and run the OX 10.5 HP 2600 series driver executable from HP and it says it was successful (tried several times). I also downloaded and installed the entire stupid 400-and-something MB software "all-in-one" software suite for the 2600 series from HP. You can run its own setup program indpependent of the Apple one and it doesn't find it either. When you enter the IP is says it found no printer and refuses to continue the setup. I have turned the printer on and off many times and checked all the connections. I have confirmed that the other PC's in the household are in fact seeing it at that IP...
I have spoken with Apple Tech Support ("it must be an HP driver issue, sorry") and HP tech support ("it must be a problem with your Mac because it works for others... but perhaps we can sell you a new printer that should work better" (no kidding, they actually tried to do this!).
On principle (and practical) grouns I am reluncant to get a new printer when the one I have works perfectly well for everything accept this Mac. But I am totally out of options unless someone can help.

  • IMac can't find network printers

We have 4 Macs in the office and a bank of 4 printers all of which have been working great and connecting together for a while with no issues. However in the last few days the iMac can't find 2 of the printers. We tried to reload them through Print and Scan preferences but they didn't appear in the preferences. Checked all the cabling and hub and everything seems OK. Booted the iMac in Safe Mode and it could see them both straight away, rebooted the iMac and again they did not appear in the list, Tried to share one of the printers from a MacPro and it appeared in the list however sometimes it just won't print to it, it seems to print but nothing appears at the printer. Since then we have reinstalled Mavericks, Verified and Repaired Permissions, Verified the HD, reset the PRAM, all to no avail.
Apart from that the iMac prints to the other printers on the network without any problem and connects to the other Macs with no problems as well. We're using 10.9.4 on a 2.7GHz iMac with 8GB of memory. The other Macs can all see and print to all the printers. We are using a wired ethernet connection, not wireless.
Has anyone any suggestions as to the problem as it's becoming really annoying now.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • IPhone 4s can't find cellular network.  iPad logged right on. Tried soft reset and two button reset, neither worked. In Detroit airport any ideas?

Iphone 4s can't find cellular network in Detroit airport. iPad logged right on. Tried reset network and hard boot and airplane off on. No luck. Any ideas?

So, I can see that nobody had any ideas.  In case anyone is interested, I did cave and get an Airport Extreme.  My iPhone 4s connected in about 3 seconds, as did my MacBook, my iMac and my old 3G phone.  The router is in the EXACT SAME SPOT as my Netgear router.  No reception problems, no dropping wifi.
The Sony Blu-Ray connected on the second attempt, but the TiVos are another story.  Reset my N-adapters to factory default and then did setup, found the network just fine assured me that my wifi was configured to the new router, but the TiVos refuse to connect.  It's always something! lol  I'm sure somebody can tell me how to fix this.

  • HT4199 Mountain Lion OS can't find my Network

I recently installed Mountain Lion OS last night so I could have AirPlay for my new Apple TV.  Now my iMac can't find my WiFi network which worked fine before I downloaded the new OS.  How do I fix this? Ugh

I have rebooted both the computer and the router.  It won't show my Network after installation of Mountain Lion. Worked fine before on my old OS system.  The Mac guy told me to buy it and download after I bought my Apple TV this weekend so I can stream web content.  I don't know if my router to set up for a private network, how do I found that out?
    Thanks!

  • My iphone 4 can't find a network

I bought my iphone 4 in Ny and brought to Brazil. It was working fine till last Friday. It can't find a network anymore. It says on the upper left corner "no service" instead of showing the carrier name and its signal. I tried to contact my carrier but it seems to be everything fine, I even tried de microchip on my Ipad and it worked perfectly, so it should be a proclem with the phone.
I tried to reset the device, but nothing seems to work.
Anyone could help me on this, please!!!
    (excuse my lousy english, please!)

    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
    2. If that doesn't work, use this article for troubleshooting: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
    3. If that doesn't solve the issue, backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
If you restore your iPhone to factory settings without a backup and still can't detect/connect to any network, you should offer the device for service.
    Good luck
    JW

  • Where can i find my network key?

where can I find my "network key"?

One method is via the AirPort Utility, as follows:
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup
From the Utility's menubar: Base Station > Equivalent Network Password
