My iMac disappears from my network sometimes

I'm not sure what's happened but as of lately I've noticed that my iMac(late 2009) disappears from the network every now and then.
What can I do to correct this?
Thanks in advance

Let's set a static IP address for the printer with this method:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Imac disappears from network

I have submitted this question on the Airport Time capsule forum but was asked to do it here.
In short: My imac disappears from the network (it stops showing on the "devices/shared" area on Finder and then I am unable to put it back in. I suspect this happens when it goes to sleep, not sure.
Longer explanation: This started with multiple names of the imac appearing in the "shared" window. I am aware this is an unsolved issue. I did the recommended temporary fix and then had to restart all of my network to get it to work. it did, but later in the day the imac disappeared from it.
    I am running 10.10.1
    Thx

This is the only thing that will force a connection:
"If the computer is not on your local network or subnetwork, you can still connect to it by choosing Go > “Connect to Server” and typing its address in the “Connect to Server” dialog."
However this will not allow you to screen share and since my mac mini is headless it will not help me.
    Same here, firewall is OFF.

  • C309A disappears from wired network

My C309A regularly (almost daily) disappears from the Network, sometimes between jobs, and I have to use CD to "add a new device" to reestablish connection.  One PC is Win 7 64 bit and one is Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit.
Ready to throw printer out window.

Does it actually disappear from the network or from Control Panel > Printers?  Tell me about your network - router brand/model and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

  • How do I keep my NAS from disappearing from my network?

    Hi folks,
Got a strange problem that's just popped up. Spent the better part of the day trying to troubleshoot. No dice. Thought I'd throw it here to see if anyone has suggestions.
I've got a Synology DS1511+ NAS that is attached to my network via one of the ports on the back of my Apple Time Capsule BaseStation. Here's how the BaseStation is configured:
    DHCP with NAT
DCHP Range of 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200
NAS has reserved DHCP of 192.168.1.10 using the MAC address of the device
All of my other network devices (iMac, MBPs, iPads, etc.) connect to the BaseStation wirelessly.
The NAS works just fine for about 10 minutes or so and then disappears from the network. Gone. Just like that! Funny thing is that this device was working perfectly fine (as far as I know) just yesterday.
If I remove (or replace) the reserved DHCP address for the NAS it comes back... for a few minutes and then disappears again.
I'm stumped! I've totally exhausted my network admin skills and have run out of ideas.
    Anyone? Bueller???
    Thanks in advance!

Guys, disabling the firewall is not a very smart idea. This is especially embedded in your NAS to protect the date from being disrupted or copied by unwanted guests. Maybe a little late to the party here, but I experienced the very same issue recently when swapping the router to a newer model.
What resolved the issue was to re-set the port forwarding in the DSM of my synology NAS. Go into configuration and select external access. In this section click on the tab router configuration. Then select router settings and allow the DSM to make changes to your router's port forwarding settings. Do not forget to click on save before leaving the DSM. Good luck!

  • Wi Fi disappeared from my network services. Now, Wi Fi unavailable on my Mac.

    I am using a Mac Pro (early 2009 Model) OS X 10.10.2, 2.93 GHz, 8GB memory.
About a week ago, my Wi Fi suddenly disappeared from my Network Services. I cannot access any Wi Fi network because the Icon or a Wi Fi link does not show up anywhere. I tried the diagnostic test but that did not work. I re-booted my computer, I re-installed Yosemite and did a software update and my Wi Fi still did not show up in the network services.
Any help in reconnecting my Wi Fi services will be greatly appreciated.
    Skel.

Open the Network pane in System Preferences. A list of available network services appears on the left. If Wi-Fi is in the list, select it, then from the popup menu labeled with a gear icon at the bottom of the list, select
              Make Service Active
    Click Apply.
If Wi-Fi is not in the service list, click the plus-sign button at the bottom of the list, and then select Wi-Fi from the  Interface menu in the sheet that drops down. Click Create, then Apply.
If there is a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, click it and enter your administrator password to unlock the settings.
If the above steps don't solve the problem, continue.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Restart the computer and recreate your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • My Airport Express units and Apple TV are disappearing from my network for Airplay

I'm using a BT Home Hub (third generation) as the centre point of my network. The Airport Express Units, and the Apple TV, are connected to it wirelessly, using the 'Join A Wireless Network' option in the setup.
Although the units are visible on the network, they disappear from the Airplay menu on iOS devices and my MacBook Pro, and need to be rebooted to bring them back.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be?
The Apple TV Is now cabled to the router, which rectified a performance issue I had with it whereby films being streamed would stop periodically.
Prior to this, I had the devices wirelessly connected to, and extending, an Airport Extreme network, being broadcast from my Time Capsule. I had to change this however, as the Airport Express units did not play music smoothly and would also disappear from the Airplay menu. I figured that the Time Capsule was at fault, as it's around 4 or 5 years old, and has been showing signs of ageing for a while now, however this new problem has occured since.
I'm tempted to replace the Time Capsule, with a new Airport Extreme unit and external HDD unit to continue wireless Time Machine backup of my three Macs, but don't want to do this if not strictly necessary.

Is there a way to stream internet audio to these devices?
You might want to take a look at Airfoil for Mac to be able to stream any source on your Mac to the AirPort Express.

  • Photoshop CC crashes, and my working file disappears from the network

I was just wondering, has anyone ever had Photoshop CC crash, and then realize the file you were working on disappeared off the network?
I've had other files where it created a 'recovered' file upon reopening of Photoshop, but the one that crashed it, is gone...
is there a way to allocate/recover that missing file?

There is typically no way to get back lost files, short of restoring backups.  I hope your administrator is backing up your server regularly.
May I suggest you change your working habits to avoid working on files directly on your network server.  Instead, copy the file to your local PC with your OS tools (e.g., Finder) and work on it there, save it there, then when you are done copy it back to the network server.
Adobe always advises not to save files directly to the network, because of the possibility that things can go wrong and data be lost.

  • IMac Disconnects from Windows Network

I'm running into an issue on companies network where every time the computer goes to sleep (say we go out to lunch) and then wake it back up, the Mac disconnects from the windows network and share drives and needs to be restarted in order to get it to connect again. I've tried browsing the network in the finder and try connecting but it just seems to loop forever and never really connects.
I tried doing a search on this but couldn't find the best way to describe the problem. Are there any others runnning into this situation or are there other forum posts that are related to this issue?
    Thank you!

    Hi WhoButSB-
That is probably something your IT folks will have to correct.
The lease granted by the DHCP server is set to cut the connection loose after a period of inactivity or when the Mac sleeps and that period of time is apparently reached when you go to lunch.

  • Mac Mini keeps disappearing from network

I have a 2009 Mac Mini running 10.9.1 that is serving as a media center computer. Plex Media Server is on this machine along with my collection of movies and TV shows. I frequently access this machine using Plex clients, both on Mac and Roku, and also via file sharing and screen sharing on other macs. I almost always manage this machine through screen sharing, which makes this problem extremely frustrating.
Basically this mac keeps disappearing from my network. I can see it under "Shared" in finder on another computer, but when I click on it it hangs on "connecting" for a while and then just disappears. Same thing when trying to access via the Plex client on Roku. Sometimes I try to play something and it tells me to make sure my server is connected and running, and sometimes it doesn't even see my Plex media server at all.
I have screen sharing and file sharing enabled, and the firewall is set up to allow incoming connections for screen sharing, file sharing, and also Plex and all its helper programs. I don't think any of these should be the issue because I can access the mini with no problems SOME of the time just not all the time. Seems like if I haven't connected for some unknown amount of time this problem crops up. When it doesn't work I have to trot down to the basement, turn on the monitor (100" projection screen, so kind of annoying) and restart the computer. I have tried toggling "Put hard disks to sleep when possible," and that didn't seem to have any effect. I also have the energy saver set to wake for network access.
I do not recall having this problem as often, if ever, before I upgraded to Mavericks. Not sure if that could be part of the issue. One other quirk since upgrading to Mavericks is that upon every restart I am asked if I want to allow incoming connections for Plex and Connect 360, both of which are listed in the firewall preferences ad allowed programs.
    Can anybody help?

See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) (also later OSX versions on earlier Macs can do it also), not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

  • Time Capsule disappears from network

    Hi,
I'm using a 2Tb Time Capsule (version 7.6.4), both for backing up my Mac mini and the iMac of my wife, as well as to create the LAN/WLAN at home. I never experienced any problems with it, until starting a few days ago the TC disappears from the network every now and then.
The funny thing is that the green LED is still on while the TC is 'gone', as well as internet access works without problems. After a couple of minutes the TC returns as if nothing would have happened. In case a scheduled backup is initiated while the TC is 'absent', I get an error message from the Time Machine, saying that it didn't find the backup disk. I restarted the TC once, but it didn't help.
    Cheers
                     Christopher

I have been having this issue the last few weeks. TimeMachine reports that it is unable to complete hourly backups and Airport Utility reports the prior seen TC cannot be found.
I have reset each device several times.
Tonight I ran Airport Utility and left it on and the Airport TC alternately reports "Device Not Found" (Internet light is green, Airport light is orange) and then a minute or two later "Reading Settings on Airport" (with both lights green). It then reverts to Device not Found.
This TC has been working just fine for the last 8 or 9 months since I bought it.
Is there a utility of some sort that I could run to check the integrity of the hardware?

  • AXs keep disappearing from network

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and two Airport Express units upstairs for Airtunes. All of the units have the latest firware upgrades. The network uses WPA2 Personal and WPS.
On multiple occassions, both of the AX units will stop streaming music. What I mean by that is the units will appear in the Airport Admin table and the lights on the units are green, but they will not stream the music. I usually have to reset the units in Airport Set Up Utility and let them restart in order to get them working again.
For awhile I had only 1 AX unit in my livingroom and don't think I had this problem. It seemed to develop shortly after I added a second AE unit on the porch. That unit was a demo model from my local Apple store but they said it was in perfect working order.
If I don't stream music for several days I usually find that the AXs don't respond and have to be reset. If I stream music for several hours, most of the time they will drop off in the middle of playing. They both seem to go off line together (it's all or nothing for music streaming.)
I have tried changing the channel (from 11 to 5) thinking it could be an interference problem but that hasn't helped.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

I too, started having problems when I added a second AX to my network. They both worked for about 36 hours and then one "disappeared" from my network.
Haven't tried resetting or configuring via ethernet connection. Just noticed this a.m. b/4 leaving for work.
I've been struggling for the better part of a week trying to get my home wireless setup and thought that I had only to encounter this new setback this morning.
I'll reply again if I'm successsful.

  • Time Capsule disappears from network, but still routes. Forced to reboot.

My Time Capsule (approx 3 months old) operating properly for about 2 months, routing and Time Machine for 2 Macs.
Recently it has started disappearing from the network, Airport Util and Time Machine. After a reboot, everything will appear fine, but after a 5-15 days or so, it will just vanish again. It will still route network traffic just fine, but is not accessible.
    7.5.1
    WPA2 Personal
    1 USB printer attached
Internet is standard sharing, no DHCP issues
TC disk is available and working
    Only odd things:
I did play around with the workgroup on the TC a few times, as Windows comps were having major problems talking to eachother. No longer an issue (winpc's off network) and should not be related.
In the DHCP clients list, there are 2 IPs assigned to clients with the name of the Time Capsule. They both have MAC addresses too (huh?). All other machines connected to the network are accounted for already. I'm assuming this is some function of the TM backup process, as the TC is backing up 2 machines on that network.
I have not tried a hard reset yet, but if this happens again (4 times now, I'm sure it will happen again) I will hard reset and see what happens. I just don't see any reason it should vanish after a week.

you could be suffering from wireless interference.
perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on.
change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • Music disappearing from iPhone after iTunes Wifi Sync

I have an iPhone 4S and a Mac Mini (2010). On four or five occasions since upgrading to OS X 10.8.2 and iOS 6, after a wi-fi sync, all or almost all of my music has disappeared from my phone (sometimes the most recent podcasts remain).
Simply syncing again (over wi-fi or USB) doesn't fix it. To fix it, I need to uncheck "Sync Music" and "Sync Podcasts" on the Mac, sync, recheck them, and sync again. Then it works for a while.
Additional context: like others, I've been experiencing other issues with wi-fi sync since installing iOS 6. In general, I can't initiate a sync from the phone, either manually or by plugging it in. I can sync from the Mac, but sometimes the Mac becomes unable to find the iPhone on the network. Turning off wi-fi and turning it back on again seems to fix this and allow the Mac to initiate a sync.
Shortly after installing iOS 6, I restored the iPhone and set it up as a new phone, hoping that would fix the sync connectivity problems (it didn't). More recently, I restored from backup. Didn't help.
Is anyone else experiencing the disappearance of the music? Any suggestions? Is it likely to be an iPhone problem or a Mac problem?
    Thanks
    Ben

The exact same problem has been happening on my iPhone as well. Very irritating. Drives me mad.
Although unfortunately I don't have a solution, I would like to ask you something. When you were setting up your iPhone, did you choose to restore from iCloud so that your iTunes purchased musics would fly into your decive?
The reason I'm asking this is that in my opinion, a conflict happens when making a Wi-Fi sync about deciding music storage so that an erase happens by itself. And it's probably a corner case so that it doesn't happen every time.
Also, as a side note, all the countless times I Wi-Fi synced my iPad, which was not iCloud restored, nothing like this never ever happened.

  • Internal HD disappeared from my iMac Desktop, & System Profiler

I use an iMac from 2011 running Mac O.S. X Version 10.6.8. It contains an internal SSD (the boot drive), and an internal 2TB hard drive called HD2.
The iMac underwent a diagnostic check at the Genius Bar last week, and everything checked out okay.
HD2 has disappeared from my desktop. Restarting the iMac has not brought it back.
The HD2 used to show up under Serial-ATA: Intel 6 Series Chipset in System Profiler, but no longer does.
Disc Utility no longer shows HD2.
Time Machine has been backing up both the SSD and HD2 on 6TB of external storage. But I do not see HD2, no matter how far back I go into Time Machine.
Spotlight searches do not turn up stuff that is on HD2.
I get a "The disk was not ejected properly" message when properly ejecting external drives.
Any idea what is going on?

If OS X iwas installed on HD2, you can start from an install dvd & use 'Restore From Time Machine Backup' with the external as the target. For data files, I'd use TM's interface if possible : try Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions 17. How can I see my backups, or the Backups for a different Mac?
since it seemingly doesn't show as expected.
    http://pondini.org/TM/15.html covers restoring selected items.
Hard Drives do sometimes just stop. no warnings.

  • Airport Express won't join network and disappears from view once configured

Hi. I am having trouble getting my brand new Airport Express to connect to my network. I would appreciate any help you can provide. Here are the details:
Computer: iMac, G5 running OS X Tiger.
Network: Cable modem hooked to a netgear wireless b/g router. The router is configured to use WEP 128 bit encryption. I have connectivity on the router throughout the house on several computers and handheld devices (iPhone, etc).
    Airport Express Version: 5.3.1
My goal is to add the AE to my current network in order to stream music from iTunes to my receiver.
When I initially opened up the airtunes utility to set up the AE the setup program was able to find the AE and walk through the configuration process. I followed the steps, entered the correct network name, encryption algorithm, password, etc. When I completed setup and hit the update AE button the AE disappeared from the setup application and the device began to flash yellow. While troubleshooting I have reset the AE dozens of times over the past couple of days. I have done both the reset with power on (press reset for 10 seconds waiting for the quickflash) and the hard reset (plugging the AE in with the reset button depressed until the quickflash starts). In either case, the AE is rarely detected by the setup utility (about 1 in 10 times). When it is detected, I walk through the set up and get the same results. I have attempted configuration using both the manual configuration option and the automatic "wizard-like" method.
I have tried to configure the AE wirelessly with it plugged in next to the computer and using a direct hookup via ethernet cable. Both methods produce the same results - flashing yellow light with AE undetectable by any Airport applications.
I have also tried to load an older version of the firmware (5.3) on the AE. When I hit the update AE button after configuring the update to go from the current version to version 5.3 I get an error message stating that "an error occured while attempting to update."
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hi guys,
I think I'm having the same problem as you all, and its driving me crazzzzy!. I added an AX to my existing network with a AEX all thru gigabyte switch, including the new AX. I set the brand new AX up with all the settings, hit update, all settings were configured and its working fine (i can see it in iTunes, stream music to it, all works fine) EXCEPT when i go to AU and try to go into the manual setting of the AX it just hangs, and after about 2 min, i get an error message:
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. Please make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6722)"
I have tried resetting it hard/soft/default but not sure if it really does reset it, still keeps same password, and network settings. Tried connecting it next to my existing AEX incase the AX is trying to communicate via WIFI instead of the hard wired ethernet. I'll try hard wiring it directly to my mac as some have had success.
I have tried using OX 10.5.3, but still misbehaves as b4 with OSX.4.11. So its not my mac setup.
I'll try to find the old firmwares as some have described, that might work....????
This seems a common problem to many, I hope that Steve & the Apple engineers have got these messages and are fixing the problem as we speak.
