My imac is not allowing me to update to lion osx 10.7 every time i try to buy the app from the mac app store it keeps saying that i need at least 2gb of memory.i have about 173 gb left. can anyone help me out

Free Disk Space & Memory are 2 differen't things.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, click on the text below Mac OS X where it says Version 10.4.x and report the Build# please.
Then click on More Info>Hardware and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
