My iMAc is slowing down. What software can I use to improve it.

Hello I am after free, demo or shareware software that I can download fast and just basically hit "run" and then let my computer and software just go through and fix up my computer and make it all perfect as it is not as good as when i first got it. It is still good but it isn't wonderful. So what can I do? Also is there anyway to defrag or improve my hard drive even though I have not partitioned it?

Partitioning can be a great way to keep some of the media files and "junk" from messing and taking space away from the boot partition which you want to be:
mostly the outer tracks which are faster;
reduce seeks;
make it easier to repair the boot volume or reinstall the system;
etc.
Backup. Off load to firewire. And do not let your drive get below 15% free space.
Also, I think most seasoned users have found that a backup + erase + restore will and does bring back some zip to the system.
Deleting cache folders helps. they can grow large.
Optimizing the directory can or use to help. MicroMat's TechTool Pro 4.5.1 is available for MacIntel now and comes close but not quite.
The boot volume also is used for temp files and if you use iDVD you need 24-32GB of free space (ideally unfragmented).
I keep all my downloads on another disk drive actually, but a partition can make sense for that.
the reasons against partitions are harder to fathom. Forces unnecessary seeks if done 'wrong' and more partitions may have some other side effect I have yet to discover (after 18 yrs Mac and 40 yrs IT). I prefer using multiple disk drives which does improve performance and organization (boot drive, users drive, archives, disk images, download installers and software updates, etc).
4GB would be okay IF you only had a 20GB drive. Not 40GB or larger.

Two thoughts:
(1)     It is possible that your Adobe software was the result of belonging to a now-discontinued Adobe Print Service Provider program where for a certain annual membership fee, print service providers were provided with (a) both a Windows and Macintosh license to the Adobe print-oriented software products (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat) and (b) special direct product support as well as the ability to put your name on Adobe's website as a member of this program. The program ended over a year ago if I remember correctly.
(2)     You may wish to contact Adobe Customer Support (not Technical Support) and see if they can track down any and all licenses associated with your company. If you have the names of the former employees who worked with this software, it would be helpful. Likewise, if you were a member of the discontinued Adobe Print Service Provider program, you may have some options for upgrading/updating the software you have.
Unfortunately, you cannot get any more definitive information about your situation on these forums.

There are a number of photo apps available in the iTunes app store e.g. the free Adobe Photoshop Express can do some basic editing (you won't get anything as sophisticated as Photoshop on a Mac/PC), and with iOS 5 the Photos app will allow you to :
Crop, rotate, enhance, and remove red-eye without leaving the Photos app
Though I'm not entirely sure whether that will apply just to photos taken with the iPad or all photos in the Photos app.

I've created my AC3 file from my 6 surround audio files along with my video in compressor. What software can I use to author my surround video to DVD? I have FCPX but I don't have DVDSP or toast. Any suggestions?

Although I don't use it, I'm pretty sure Toast will treat the file properly. (But I would go on the Roxio forums to check.)
If confirmed, that would probably be your lowest cost solution.
Otherwise, if you know someone who has either Final Cut Studio or Adobe Production Suite you could use DVD Studio Pro or Encore.

It records in mpeg2 format. Try using meg streamclip ( free) to convert the material to dv. You should be able to edit dv format with iMovie.

What software can I use on OS X Mavericks to burn my photos on a DVD? iDVD is too slow and crashes.

I am using a late 2009 13" macbook pro with Mavericks. I want to backup my photos on multiple DVDs. I tried using the iDVD software that came with Leopard. iDVD keeps crashing and is too slow. Is there any good software that any of you has used?

What version of iDVD are you using? If it's version 7 but not the final 7.1.2 version download and run the iDVD 7.1.2 updater on the app.
If you do have 7.1.2 try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

My iMac is slowing down and it takes a long time to start any application. What can I do to gain more speed?

What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of "crapware" like so called hard drive "cleaning" apps?
Do a search for and download and install OmniDisk Sweeper and OnyX.
Here are some of my tips for deleting or archiving data off of your internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save to disc, Flash drive/s or to ext. hard drive.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Uninstall apps that you no longer use. If the app has a dedicated uninstaller, use it to completely uninstall the app. If the app has no uninstaller, then just drag it to the OS X Trash icon and empty the Trash.
Also, if you save old downloaded .dmg application installer files, you can either archive and delete these or just delete the ones you think you'll never install, again.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be thinned out, moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

Snow is Intel only. You could get Leopard 10.5 by purchasing a Retail (black) Disk off eBay or calling Apple Service and ordering one from them. That would allow you to run Safai 5 and iTunes 10, I believe, but would lose Classic support in the process.

None. Preinstalled Apps cannot be removed. However their footprint is almost negligible in relation to the general OS space needs.
There would be no real benefit in removal even if you could remove them.
If you feel space is an issue, perhaps a larger capacity iPad would be a better choice.

The Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, or similar software. For best results, place the second drive inside the computer or in a FireWire enclosure and boot the computer from it before removing the internal drive.
