When I try to download applications such as Internet Explorer, Yugma, and iTunes in Firefox, I just get a window that says "save" or "cancel", but never one that says "run" so I don't think it's actually installing anything. It shows up in a "download" window, then the icon shows up on my desktop. When I click on it to launch it, it says "open with" and I get the same "save/cancel" window. It's a continuous circle. What am I doing wrong??

What application are you choosing to open the files with?
Because of how integrated it is with windows IE should work. If it's not working, something more widespread could be wrong with your computer that would also prevent other browsers from working properly. Of course we'd love you to stick with Firefox, but you should get help with IE, too.

There seems to be an entry missing in the
versionlist.xml file.
There is an entry missing for wsdetect.dll (isInstalled Class ActiveX Control) from Java 1.7, I believe (there is an entry for 1.6, 1.5, 1.4 but 1.7 is missing).

This causes the alert prompt to appear when using Java 1.7 update 67 even though it's allowed by XML.
To reproduce, please go to a site that uses wsdetect.dll like Wikipedia (like here

When in firefox, I get a message that says no version of windows media player is supported. When I euse internet explorer with the same website, no error occurs. Why?

I am working in the H&R Block website. When I get ready to take a test in their system, I get that error message described above. If I exit Firefox and use internet explorer instead there is no problem.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

Internet Explorer Issue when ITunes is open

I just installed ITunes and have already downloaded some cds. The problem is, Internet Explorer more or less becomes inactive after I open ITunes. If I open Internet Explorer first, it works fine. Once I open ITunes though, the internet more or less stops working. If I open ITunes first, Internet Explorer never loads. It's not giving me an error message or anything and the page just becomes blank. It's showing as if it is connecting to the website though. Any ideas? I will cry if I can't surf the web while importing all 200 disc I have. Thanks!

I have this issue since I started using iTunes last year, I keep updating the software but that hasn't helped. Various mswindows systems (2000 + XP, laptops and desktops) with and without being introduced to an iPod.
The basic scenario is that when iTunes is running, at some point the system becomes unresponsive - the windows explorer (complete UI), Lotus Notes, Firefox... it is almost like iTunes is holding a lock on a resource that the others need to redraw their screens.
The only fix I've found is to close iTunes, praying that when I restart it it'll work.
Any suggestions on things to try? Ones like "get the company to switch to a Mac" aren't helpful

Empty "Links__1" and "Links__2" folders in Safari after syncing my Internet Explorer Bookmarks with iTunes.

I use Firefox and Internet Explorer on my desktop and sync the bookmarks between them using XMarks. I then sync my Internet Eplorer bookmarks to my iPad using iTunes. On top of all of my bookmarks, which sync fine, I have 2 extra empty folders called "Links__1" and "Links__2". I can delete them but they eventually reappear after syncing (though not always on the next sync).
Any ideas on what is causing this and how to prevent this would be appreciated.

I had 2 hidden "Favorites Bar" folders in my Favorites folder. Deleted them and the pronlem seems to have gone away.

Internet explorer is blocking firefox from downloading

I was able to do the download but immediately got a message from internet explorer that it blocked my download. I click on run but nothing happens so can't get past that point. I am having so much trouble with IE that I have got to get with firefox. Thanks

If the Web site was merely created by a clueless developer then Kappy's answer is correct. There are some websites that insist on being displayed only on Explorer but don't really need Explorer. However, it is more common that the lazy developer utilized Windows only technology and the Web site cannot be viewed - or at least parts of it cannot be viewed - without Explorer. If this is the case you'll have no choice but to use a Windows solution. Though becoming increasingly rare this does remain a problem and it is one reason why I use Parallels Desktop with Windows 7 as a guest operating system. This lets me run Windows on my Mac while still using Mac software. Apple's BootCamp is another solution but it forces us to boot into either Windows or the Mac which I find inconvenient.

Internet explorer needed for itunes store?

I had IE on my comp - at one point it worked but it stopped working about a month ago; It won't load any web pages. I have internet connectivity and can access everything through Firefox... except AIM 6.0 and the iTunes store - which is really annoying because I've been listening to the same songs for a while now and want to buy some new tracks... but can't. Is there a way to get iTunes to work without internet explorer on a PC? Please help!

Internet explorer is built in to windows. But you don't use it to browse the ITMS. iTunes is a self contained browser. Case in opint. I use firefox on an daily basis and can still browse the iTMS just the same. Your connectivity issue is completely different I'm afraid.

Loading pages from a internet explorer gets blocked

hi my problem is simple,
in my jsp i have two window.open's, one opens a jsp directly and the other is sending a request to a servlet and it opens a jsp.
now the second one(redirecting to servlet) gets blocked if the blocking option is set, so i cannot view it from my IE or firefox.
I would like to know how can i solve this problem as i would like the window to open even if it is directed to the servlet.
Of course if i can only do it for this page then fine

One option I've tried is calling my custom Javascript method which then internally calls window.open
It works on any link - Html, JSP etc. A Servlet is just another URL I don't see why it should only block a Servlet.
What URL are you specifying for the Servlet?
normally if you map a URL pattern for the Servlet in web.xml , it looks like any other URL , for example /somepage , could be mapped to your Servlet.
Or perhaps you could even map the URL /somepage.html to a Servlet. ( I haven't tried it, but I think it should work.)

After registering on the album starter Edition 3.0, I am getting an error message saying that windows internet explorer cannot find the website, to make sure the path or internet address is correct. when i click ok, it all goes away, adobe and all. Help

I called tech support that switched me to customer care and after over half an hour on the phone, they told me to look it up in the forums. If you have any words of wisdom, I would love to hear them now. I guess I have to get through this registering phase to obtain the unlock code. I am surprised at how faulty this step is. I expected more from Adobe.

You need to update your starter edition 3.0 to a 3.2 edition. Go to www.adobe.com, click on "Downloads" then "updates", continue to look under "Product updates" and scroll down to "Photoshop Elements". Now you need to download the Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2. This update will automatically remove your 3.0 edition, and your photos will be accessible in the 3.2 edition. Now you can register again. Good Luck!

Boot Camp Newbie seeks meaningful relationship with Internet Explorer

Hi there. I need to access Internet Explorer for an important website relating to my work. It appears that I am going to have to dive into the murky waters of Boot Camp to get there. I have scanned the install instructions and tried to gather as much info as I can so does this sound right?
I have to upgrade to snow leopard, then buy windows 7, back up my current drive to a separate hard drive, take some valium, print out the boot camp instructions, run boot camp, partition the drives, find my leopard start up disc that came with the laptop? Did it come with a disc? Or the snow leopard upgrade disc? Use that disc when prompted in the hopes that this will all lead to a sense of euphoria, as I marvel at the brave new world I've created on my macbook? Is that right?

No... all you need is Sun's VirtualBox VM for free, then pick up Windows - I'd go with Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium System Builder for $90 from Newegg etc.
You don't need to buy Snow Leopard. Or use Boot Camp just to run Windows and web browsers.
Opera does a good job of being IE compatible; I like Firefox 3.7.x, and use IE8 most of the time.

Internet Explorer Scroll Problem

Hi, I have run into a major issue with internet explorer and my new website. If you have a way to check this out on internet explorer than i would greatly appreciate it. What it is is like a choppy, shutter effect when a person scrolls down the page. (You can check it out for yourself at: http://www.thelighthouseoflapeer.org. It just butchers my design. Any thoughts or fixes to this issue?

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

I can't figure out how to make the print on webpages bigger. Right now firefox is making it very small. Not having this issue with internet explorer, so I know it's just firefox

Installed Flash Player 12 ActiveX not recognised - Windows 7 & Internet Explorer

On 2/5/2014 I downloaded Adobe Flash Player 12 ActiveX for the 4th time and yet the system is giving me an error message saying "You're mission the video converter tool." I have a HP Windows 7 system. Back in October, I was able to use the Internet Explorer, go to the website CWtvnow and watch The Vampire Diaries online. But, my system went thru an automated system update on its own and since then I have not been able to watch videos on the internet using Internet Exployer. I'm tired on downloading the Adobe software and still not working. I am not a PC expert, but where ever drive the software is being downloaded to, its not functioning. HELP
