My iPad "cannot determine location" on the map.

My iPad "cannot determine location" on the map. Location services is turned on for all apps.  Why doesn't this work, and how can I fix it?

If you have the wifi-only model then your location is determined by the router that you are connected to being in the database that Apple uses - only the 3G model has a built-in GPS chip. If you have an iPod that is able to get a location via your router then you could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then reconnect to the network and see if the iPad then gets a location.

  • My iPad cannot determine location?

I have iPad 2. And Ican determine location in iPad settings.but in maps cannot determine location.why?

Wifi-only iPads don't have a built-in GPS chip like the cellular modelsdo, instead they rely on getting their position from the wifi router that they are connected to being in Apple's database.
There are external GPS units that will work with an iPad e.g. Bad Elf GPS.

You can't delete the update and your problem probably is not in the Update.
Check to see if Location Services is turned ON. (Settings > Privacy > Location Services)
What model iPad Mini do you have? WiFi or WiFi + Cellular
Have you recently changed WiFi routers?

  • I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing issues related to location services settings. Ie; they are on but maps cannot determine location etc.

I recently experienced an issue on my ipad2 related to location services. While connected to a wifi network, I found that apps requiring location services would not work properly and I would receive a pop up notice asking me to turn on location services.  For example, the maps app would display a pop up stating "cannot determine location". My NHL gamecenter app would not allow me to watch live feeds; a pop up advised me to turn on location services. In each case, location services was in fact on.
I checked my settings, shut down the apps, restarted them, shut down the iPad and rebooted it to no avail. The internet connection was working fine as best as I could determine. The wifi network was at a guest home and the router was recently replaced. I returned to my home wifi and everything worked fine. The next day, I returned to the guest Internet connection and everything seemed to work once again. However, while watching a NHL game, during the last seconds of an overtime shoot out, I lost video and it was attributed once again to location services being disabled. Of course I checked and nothing in my settings had been altered. I went to my iPhone (3GS) and pulled up the gamecenter app and was able to watch the end of the game( via wifi connection...same network).
So, I am puzzled as to what could be causing this problem. If anyone else is having similar issues, I would like to know as well as if there are any solutions or feedback from Apple regarding this type of problem.....Dave.

As the King says, if your friends wifi router was relatively new, it likely has not been picked up by Apple's location based information database system and thus there is no location information associated with it.  So your iPad had no way of getting its location.
The wifi location databases are traditionally updated by wardriving - literally companies employ people to drive around sniffing out active wifi signals and associating an approximate location to it.  Some companies also have web sites to submit that information if owners wish to (Apple does not seem to have one though), and the various companies with wifi location databases buy and sell their information.  Bottom line is though, it can take weeks, months or sometimes even longer for a residential router to get picked up - depends on where you live (more rural, likely the longer time it takes).
When I moved from VA to NC it took up to 6 months for mine to reflect my new location (I checked it once the week I moved in, and then periodically thereafter, and it finally was getting it right after about 6 months) and I live in a pretty densley populated area (triangle NC).

  • The iPad "My iPad" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.

Since updating iTunes to 10.5 (running on OS X 10.6.8) I get this error message at the end of syncing for 2 different iPhones and an iPad 2:
The iPad "My iPad" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
Everything was fine before, and the sync seems to still be happening. The disk is actually readable and writable, and not full. The ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup folder write date is getting updated.

I am having the same problem with an older black and white 40 gig ipod. I had a new hard drive installed and using my Power Mac G5 running 10.4.9, where I keep the music library, I am unable to install more than 2 gigs of music. I have done the restore and it does not help. I get the same error message everytime. I was successful in syncing a new 80 gig minutes later!
    Any suggestions?

  • The iPad cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found.

My 1Pad2 synced fine for a few weeks, now I get "The iPad cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found."  Through process of elimination, I've determined that it is a problem with the photos portion.  When I uncheck "sync photos", everything else syncs fine.

Try deleting the iPod photo cache.

I can see a preview of the photos, but I cannot access or edit them.  They say "the folder cannot be located" and "the photo is missing".  I have gone through multiple Adobe tutorials to try and recover them to no avail.  Any tips?

Backup catalogs wouldn't have helped with this problem anyway, but naturally, you shouldn't delete backup catalogs for a while.

  • This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes

I have seen others post this same question but the answers provided does not resolve my problem. My iPad Air is running iOS 7.1.2. I have been using this same computer for three years. It has Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1,  64-bit Operating System, Intel 3.4GHZ computer and 16.0 GB .  I used this same computer with my iPad2 for several years. I purchased an iPad Air a year ago. I never had a problem with either iPad using iTunes. About a week ago, my computer would no longer recognize the iPad Air. I thought it must be a driver problem or iTunes somehow became corrupted. I uninstalled all of the Apple products except for iCloud and deleted any Apple software left in my Program Files and Program Files (x86). I then downloaded from Apple, iTunes64Setup.exe which is a 110,833 KB program. I installed the program without a problem. It installed Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support and iTunes. These programs I had previously uninstalled. I then brought up iTunes.  I now plugged in my iPad Air and a popup message appeared "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes". OK, I did as instructed. I used the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then ran iTunes64Setup.exe. I brought up iTunes and got the same message. "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is nt installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"  In general, I have found the Apple software to be robust and reliable. This situation however is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone has an answer that I can use to resolve my problem.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Mobile Device Support, won't install normally.
In your case I suggest you start with a clean download of the setup file using the direct link. If reinstalling AMDS alone doesn't work try tearing everything down again.

I got this message  when i update itunes on my pc, I  have uninstalled itune and re instail using  revo unistall  over 10 times and gone through every thing solution on this forum to no avail. I please I need help.  I did try extracting  intune using winrar  and got his message "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support.  Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."   I have tried to do that repeatedly. Although iTunes will install, Apple Mobile Device Support won't.  It looks like it is installing and then it rolls back and says "Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't install on your computer.  The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured.  Your system has not been modified.  To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again." Please I need help.
    Thanks.

Try uninstalling iTunes, apple mobile device support and apple appliation support (via the control panel. add/remove programs) then reinstall iTunes.
THere seems to be a bit of a conflict between the most recent iTunes update and  possibly a windows update.
I had to uninstall all 3 of those programs to get my iPad to syn last night
