My iPhone 4 keeps shutting down with high battery percentage?

I have an iPhone 4 that I just received in September/October due to issues I was having with the screen.  It has recently begun to freeze, shut down and come back on, and ultimately shutting down around 36% battery life.  I can plug it into the charger and it will immediately turn back on, usually at the same percentage as when it shut off.  Only last night it shut down at 36/37% and when I plugged it in it came on at 25%.  I've done resets but nothing seems to be helping.  Any other suggestions?

This is often due to fautly battery. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for free quick battery diagnostic testing.

  • IPhone 5 shuts down with the battery at 40%

I'm having issues with my iPhone 5. It regularly shuts down with the battery being far from 0%. When I took it to the apple store, a "genius" said that the battery is fine and restored the phone to the factory settings. I set it up as new without touching the backup (with iOS 8), but the iPhone keeps shutting down with a half charged battery. If anythings, the problem only became worse with iOS 8.1. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix it.
The iPhone is out of the warranty and is not eligible for battery replacement. Another issue I have is that the home button often responds with a delay, but I don't know if it's related to the main problem.
    Thanks

  • IPhone 6 shuts down with 40% battery life

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 6 (64 GB) on T-Mobile running iOS 8.0.2 that shuts off when the battery indicator says about 40%.  I could be using it like normal, then it just shuts down and flashes the red battery logo and tells me to plug it in.  It comes right back on when connected to power and then it is good to go.  I haven't tried to run it back past 40%, again, but the phone consistently powers down around the 40% mark.
I set up the phone with an import from my iPhone 5S and I got into the "death spiral", where the phone was stuck in a constant reboot unless I did the hard restart (power and home button until the phone restarted).  I think I fixed that by deleting the apps that were loaded from my 5S backup and installing them fresh from the app store.
I am restoring the phone right now and will load the backup from the iPhone 6.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

It could be an issue with the battery calibration. I would go threw with the restore, set the device up as new, then restore from the backup. If that does not work then it is hardware related and most likely a battery issue. If you have an Apple Retail Store near you could take it in there for battery replacement, or you could call Apple Care and they have mail in options. You will want to make an appointment for the Apple Retail Store if you choose to go that route.

  • IPhone 5 shutting down with 20% battery life left

My iphone 5 is turning off with 20% battery life showing. I've done all the updates. When I plug it in, battery life immediately jumps to 30% left. Any clues? It's not overheating and usually I'm just typing a text message. It's shut down twice now as I try to send a picture with the message. Thanks in advance for any help.

This usually means that your battery gauge needs to be calibrated. Apple actually recommends doing this on a monthly basis, but the advice is buried in the battery info tiphttp://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html.
What you need to do given your current problem: When the phone shuts off and it isn't down around 1%, connect to a charger for just a minute or 2, or wait 15 minutes, then reboot the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Continue running the battery down until it shuts off around 1%. If it goes off above that value repeat the above process until you really do get to 1% (this will rarely take more than 2 tries).
Once it has turned off and won't restart or reboot charge it with the wall charger for 4 hours without using the phone. This should fix the problem for the moment. Going forward, about once a month run the battery all the way down and charge for 4 hours. This should prevent the problem from recurring.
If this does not work your battery may be failing. As it's still in warrantly take it to an Apple store for repair."
I am having the same problems with my phone and found this discussion last night and tried to follow this procedure but I could not get my phone to turn on and run down to 1%. It shut itself off from 15%-7% almost instantly. I rebooted it as recommended by others and turned it on and let it shut off until it got down to 7% then it would no longer turn on. even after sitting for a little while. I have charged my phone to full overnight with the charger that it came with and will wait to see if the problem persists. I am very frustrated with this and found out that my phone is a few days outside the 1 year warranty. If anyone has had this situation and found a fix without getting a new phone, please let me know.

  • Iphone 4s shutting down with 18% battery

I have iphone 4s and upgraded to IOS 6 . Now my phone is shutting down when battery % is 18% . Any one facing same issue , If yes pleas help me

Hey guys i just bought an iPhone 4s with iOS 5.1, the battery life is not that great i waould say. Even with minimal usage i barely get through the day. I also received a notification for update to iOS 6.1.3. But I haven't updated as yet because i am still sceptic that updating might not resolve/improve battery life.
    What do you suggest guys???
@ Espimentel - Hows ur battery life with iOS6.1.3?
    Thanks in advance guys.
Appreciate your valuable feedback and suggesions on it.

  • IPhone 5 shuts down with 20% battery remaining

I apologize if this issue has been discussed already. It's a hard topic to find because I do not have an issue with my battery draining fast (it's what mostly come up when I try the search) but it's just that, as of late, my phone shuts down when I have about 20% of the battery remaining. I am out of warranty by only a month, this seems to have started with iOS 7.

I wonder if the issue was the cold weather. I was trying to get the phone to discharge per your suggestion and it lasted for an entire day! I am now starting to think that maybe while the phone sat in my car the cold would make the battery discharge faster and kill it. Anyway, I charged it to a full charge without disconnecting just to make sure. Seems to be working fine now.

  • IPhone 4S shuts down with 30% battery life iOS 8.1.1

Last week I updated my iPhone 4S from iOS 7 to iOS 8.1.1. Allthough the battery level is 30%, my iPhone shuts down. I can only start it again by connecting it to a power supply (computer or charger) to get it back to life again. And if it is restarted, the battery level again is 30%. This is very annoying. I regret is very much that I updated the iOS.
    Apple please solve this a.s.a.p!

  • IPhone 5 shuts down with 20% battery life

This started after installing iOS8 (currently on iOS 8.1.1): At around 20% battery life, if I'm using any app at all the phone will shut down like there's no battery left. It will not restart. Plug it into the charger and get the display showing there's no battery life and it needs charging. After about 30 seconds, phone powers back up and shows 20%+ battery.
I have tried draining it to shut down, but it's hard to get it past 20%. I have made sure there were no background apps running, turned off just about everything I could. No joy. And this never happened under iOS7; it started right after I installed iOS8.
I've seen threads on this behavior, but no definitive answers. Thoughts?

  • Why does phone keep shutting down with full battery?

I've tried rebooting and clearing cache like a lot of people have suggested...
Is there anything else I can try?

        Hi deesbees,
I appreciate you taking the steps to reboot and clear cache on the device. If these steps have not resolved the trouble the next step is to complete a hard reset. These steps can be found on http://bit.ly/oV4Meh. Please keep us posted to the experience after the reset.

  • My iphone 5 is shutting down with 30% battery remaining

My iphone keep shutting down with approx. 30% battery remaining, sometime 18%, I have to plug it to turn it on again, it is very frustrating. I did reset the phone and it still doing it.   PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like a definite hardware problem. You should still be in warranty, so head over to an Apple Genius Bar and they will either repair or replace it. A replacement will be much more likely, and it's free (if in warranty).
    Good luck!

  • My iPhone 4s shuts down with just less than half the battery remaining

My iPhone 4s shuts down with just less than half the battery remaining. Is my battery shot?

    Hi LucMiranda,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPhone is not behaving correctly. The steps in this article can help with troubleshooting the battery issue you're seeing:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
iPhone or iPod touch displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
If you see the image below, charge the iPhone or iPod touch with USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
You should see this image when iPhone or iPod touch begins to charge:
If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning the iPhone or iPod touch off and then on again.
If the issue persists, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Cheers,

  • My iPhone 5 shuts down with a 10% charge remaining, is there a fix?

After my recent software upgrade my iPhone 5 shuts down with 10% charge remaining. This has never happened before. Is there a fix?

The battery gauge probably needs to be recalibrated. It "thinks" there is more charge in the battery than the battery thinks there is.
When it shuts off charge for just a minute or two, then restart (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Deliberately run the battery down until the phone shuts off at 1%. If it shuts off above 1% repeat the above until you get to 1%. Then charge for 4 hours with the wall adapter without using the phone. This process will recalibrate the battery gauge.
To prevent this from happening again about once a month run the battery all the way down to 1%, then continue until the phone shuts off. Apple recommends this in their battery help article, but they don't say why you should do it. The have some hokum about "keeping the electrons moving." Honestly! The iPad battery tip gives the correct reason.

my iphone 4s shutting down with 20% charge

    Hello klmcholden,
The following article provides some useful troubleshooting steps that can help restore proper function to your iPhone.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • My iphone keeps shutting down randomly. Ever since I installed IO7

My iphone keeps shutting down randomly. 3-7 times a day. Ever since I installed IO7. How do I fix or reinstall IO6?

    Hey Kaylyn07,
Thanks for the question. The following article may help in troubleshooting Kernal Panic’s for OS X:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
In most cases, kernel panics are not caused by an issue with the Mac itself. They are usually caused by software that was installed, or a problem with connected hardware.
To help avoid kernel panics, install all available software updates until Software Update reports, "Your software is up to date." OS X updates help your Mac handle the kinds of issues that can cause kernel panics, such as malformed network packets, or third party software issues. For most kernel panics, updating your software is all you have to do.
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you need help with this process, consider bringing your Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.  If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
