My iPhone 4s suddenly said activation required

I have had the phone for a year and I pulled it out of my pocket and that's what it said. I tried to reactivate it but it didn't work. I talked with someone at Apple and they said they have received a whole bunch of calls about this today. They were not able to help me. I am trying to do it through iTunes but not sure what to do. I don't want to restore as it is not backed up recently enough. Took a bunch of pictures today.

It's because you were on the iOS 6 beta, which just expired. You'll need to get the final 6.0 release from the developer iOS portal and install it manually.

  • HT1414 I was using my IPAD this morning. Powered it down, then when I powered it back up, it said activation required.. but it would not accept my password. I hit skip and logged in fine. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Probably - if it happens again. Chalk it up to a fluke occurrence for now.
I get the message on my iPad that it can't connect to the iTunes Store - While I am in the iTunes Store or the App Store happily navigating from one tab to another.
You can try rebooting the iPad to "clear the cobwebs" but if it is OK now, I probably wouldn't be overly worried. Rebooting being holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • Iphone 5c keeps showing 'activation required'

New to the iPhone 5c only had it from New a few month but today keeps showing 'searching' in top left corner and constantly coming up with 'activation required' which I've done numerous of times but still not doing anything different, what can I do?

    How far is it off?
    Always the same amount off?
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • 3GS froze, then said Activation required, now fails to restore with unknown error (1)

My 3GS froze while using Navigon, then showing a pop-up saying "Activation required". When tapping the pop-up, an unusual white question box regarding location service shows up, after tapping "next" the process hangs. Connected to iTunes later, same procedure again, hangs again. When trying restore with iTunes, the whole load process looks ok, but at the end fails with "unknown error (1)", probably when trying to rstart the phone. I tried all variations (restore mode, DFU mode, hard reset) but no luck. The phone was recently officially unlocked (AT&T), could this be a factor? Or is this a harware problem? Any ideas aor hints welcome.
    Thanks,
    Manfred

Thanks for the pointer to the KB article. Error 1 is missing from the list provided by iTunes (more information), but I was afraid it means hardware. Will try on another computer, but I'm afraid the phone is sick.
    Thanks,
    Manfred

  • "Activation Required" after turning off

So I turned my phone off and turned it back on as I was told that would help with the slowness but the moment I turned it on it said "Activation Required." It only shows the screen with the wire attaching to iTunes.
Is there any fix or reason for this?
    Thanks

That symbol is the "connect to iTunes" symbol.  Not sure what caused it, but you need to connect it to your computer and iTunes and it should pop up saying "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.   You must restore this phone..."  Then, you just restore it (hopefully you have a backup to restore from!!!) and it should work as normal after that.

  • Activation requires more time???

So I got my new 16gb Iphone 3G S yesterday..and itunes said "activation requires more time"...well it's been nearly a full day, and still waiting. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm just wondering how long it's going to take!

yep had ATT already..and the reception here is as good as anywhere else, I guess. The only thing I can think is that when I ordered the phone, it was on one phone number, and I had to transfer it to another number. Other than that, I have no idea. I called them yesterday, and they said the phone is on my number now..so I don't know what's taking so long about activating.

  • "Activation required" message briefly displayed

    Hi!
I'm new here. I had an iOS message displayed on my phones lock screen that said "activation required". After unlocking it, the phone had some message that read something like " congratulations you are activated..."
But I've been using phone for weeks now. What gives?
    Thanks

  • Iphone 5c suddenly requires activation

so my iphone 5c randomly went to the original activation required screen out of nowhere while i was using the facebook app.
ive owned the phone for a year now and nothing like this has happened before.
also in the top left of the screen there is no service, it is constantly searching.
ive tried turning of and on again - no luck
ive tried activating it via wifi but it wont work, it says something about the server being down or something
    so i cant do anything
    help me

It would almost seem like your SIM card shorted out since a SIM is needed for activation
Can you pop it out presuming you are on a GSM carrier and check with another SIM?

  • My iPhone wont do anything but say "Activation Required"! Help!

I've had it for over 2 years. It's a 3GS. Today around 6 o'clock it just all of a sudden said "No Service". So I turned it off and then back on. Now it wont do anything but come up "Activation required" and then a black screen with the Apple logo. I even plugged it in to iTunes and it doesn't do anything. It wants me to Restore but I don't want to loose all my stuff. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If it 'wants you to restore' anything that was on it is already gone. You're going to have to restore it.
