My iPhone 5 is linked to inactive Apple Id

I've tried emailing him several times and everything i could to get in touch with him. Cant believe i have a fancy brick that cost me five hundred euros but is now worthless... Is there a way apple could check if they could get in touch with him or something because i really want to use this phone and there is no way for me to return it. Not been reported as stolen/lost.

You need the Apple ID and password the iPhone was activated with.  There is no way around that.  This is a feature to prevent someone who is not the legitimate owner of an Iphone to activate it.  The seller needs to give you these credentials or alternatively he must remove the iPhone from his Apple ID in icloud.com.
Apple cannot help you find the seller.  You must do that yourself.  Until then you cannot activate the iPhone.

  • I've got iPhone 5 from my aunt, i can use it before, then i make some mistake. now, i can't activation my iPhone. i don't know if this iPhone still linked with other Apple ID, my aunt didn't know about that. please help me :(

my iPhone 5 couldn't activation (i can use it before, but i make some mistake), help me how to activation my iPhone again, i don't know who is first hand my iPhone 5

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

    Hello,
I had an iPhone 5 apparently the iPhone was linked to my Apple ID through "Find my iPhone".
A few days ago my friend upgraded to iOS7.04 and when the phone booted we see on the screen the following message:
"This iPhone is currently linked to an Apple ID (s*****@icloud.com).
    Activate iphone
this iphone is currently linked to an apple id
Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone"
Unfortunately this is a very old account which I don't use anymore and don't know the password for that account, but when I signed in to
http://www.icloud.com/find with my new Apple ID. I saw the iphone 5 white 16GB under that accout and followed the manual to remove it so it
won't be linked to my account.
I have been waiting and also tried to restore the iPhone, still it asks for the old Apple ID...
What I can do to remove it and restore the iPhone?
    Thank you in advanced.

so sign in with it, if you dont know it contact the owner
    Peace, Clyde

Hi, we have three iPhones and iPods which are currently linked to one apple ID.  I have now set up an apple id for each phone/iPod.  How do I go about re-directing the two accounts to the relevant one that has now been set up please?  I could do with a step by step guide to follow as am worried about loosing aps, music, photo's etc which are on the individual phones.
    Thanks
    Mandi

On each of the phones you're gonna use a new Apple ID for iCloud: turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

    @apup80
It sounds that you are running the same iCloud account with two phones.  I recommend you to create a different iCloud account and you should be all set.

  • HT4759 My icloud account is link to old apple id that i don't know password for and when i try to delete icould on my iphone it is asking me for a password instead of just deleting what can i do to  get my icloud accout updated with my current apple id?

MY ICLOUD ACCOUT IS LINK TO OLD APPLE ID WHICH I DON'T KNOW PASSWORD.  WHEN I GOT TO SETTINGS TO DELETE ICLOUD TO CREATE WITH MY CURRENT IT ASK ME FOR A PASSWORD ASSOCIATED WITH THE OLD APPLE ID INSTEAD OF DELETING THE ACCOUNT.  HOW DO I DELETE THE ICLOUD ACCOUT WITH INPUTTING A PASSWORD TO TURN OFF FIND IPHONE?

Go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

You are absolutely WRONG. Apple bears no responsibility in this at all. YOU purchased a STOLEN phone. You are guilty of receiving stolen property at best. Take it back to wherever you bought it and demand a refund. Failing that, turn it over to the police. You got ripped off. I'm sorry you wasted your money, but there is NOTHING Apple or anyone else can do for you. Only the rightful owner of the phone can unlock it.

  • Having second hand iPhone 4 of family member now recognized as a device linked to my apple account and not theirs.

I'm sure this has been covered in another tread but I haven't been able to locate a solution to my query so here goes...
I have acquired an iphone 4 (and an iPad 2 but not too concerned with it in this discussion) from a deceased relative. Have unlocked the phone as my uncle's carrier was vodafone which differs from my carrier so no problems there...
The phone is working perfectly as a phone but in terms of transferring apps from my old phone which i have backed up to my macbook pro's itunes to my uncle's phone is proving an issue. In addition to this my old iphone without a sim card but with 3G or Wifi enabled will receive imessages rather than my uncles.
Essentially my uncle's iphone does not seem to respond as a piece of apple tech when synced with my itunes.
I am aware that there is issues with iphones and people having acquired them second hand have been told they have essentially bought a pricey paperweight.
Where my situation differs is I have the account details for my uncle's apple account.
Is there any way given that i have these details i can have my uncle's iphone recognized as a device linked to my apple account so that i can receive imessages and sync backed up apps from my old iphone 4 to this iphone.
Any instructions would be really appreciated and again if this has been covered before please bear with me
    Eoghan

Contacted Apples ID support who addressed this issue for me. Many thanks

Are you the original owner of this phone? If so sign in with the Apple ID and password you used when you first set it up.
Or did you buy is phone used? Contact the person you bought it from and have him/her correct the problem or refund your money.
You have encountered activation Lock that prevents stolen or lost phones from being activated. As stated the only way around this problem is to have the original owner clear the phone for your use.

how will i activate my iphone?and keep on asking link to an apple id that was used to set up this iphone

You need to enter the id, and the password, of the account that the phone is linked to.
Did you buy the phone new or used ? If you bought the phone used and it's still linked to the previous owner's account then you will have to contact the previous owner and ask him/her to remove the phone from their account : Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account - Apple Support.
If you bought the phone new and it's your account then enter the id and password that you were using in Settings > iCloud on it
