any ideas of the best place to get another ipod classic?  i have been looking at ebay and amazon and want to be sure to get a new one and am confused when they say not in retail packaging if that means they aren't quite new.  any ideas???  i simply want an ipod for MUSIC and therefore am hesitant to buy the ipod touch.

  • Ipod classic isn't recognized by the computer & keeps on restarting

    hii
I am experiencing very strange problem. My apple ipod classic isn't recognized by my computer nor it formats or restore & keeps on restarting on it's own when tried
to open any application.it also shows that there is 0kb free & 0kb used.
    please help
    highly obliged

I have the exact problem. My ipod (and now there's two of them!) used to work fine, sync, etc. with this computer. A while back, it stopped recognizing the ipod. I tried all the stuff (the 5r's), checked my usb ports (work with all other devices), different cables, etc. Finally, I got another ipod. Now I've got two perfectly good ipod classics that I can't get music on or off of. grr.
I guess it's something in my computer set up (which is still strange, since, to my knowledge nothing has really changed from when it used to work)...but it my laptop also won't recognize either ipod. so that's two computers that I'll have to take to some expert if I can't figure this out. frustrating!

My new Ipod Nano isn't recognized by itunes.  I did all of the troubleshooting and even uninstalled Apple Mobile Device.  I can't get it back.  Can anyone help me?

    Hi MartyP680,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It appears that you're receiving a message that your iPod nano can't be identified properly, and you've already tried removing and reinstalling iTunes. You've also isolated this behavior to only one of your PCs.
If the issue persists, there are some additional tips in this article that may help, including verifying that the Apple Mobile Device Support service installed properly and is running:

The "Learn More" section also mentions some other potentially conflicting software to look for on your PC.

  • IPod Classic 160GB not recognized by iTunes

I have an iPod Classic 160GB in version 2.0.4 that is not recognized by itunes.
It's about 2 years old and had presented a few problems with sincying in the past, but I hadn't tried to sync it for a while.
I've transfered all the music from my Windows PC to my Mac, and the iPod was Windows formated.
It started presenting a problem to transfer all my music content from iTunes (Mac) to the iPod, but after severel hours, it only transfered a few hundreded. I've tried it several times.
So, I tried to restore it, both in Windows and Mac PCs, but the problem persisted. A hard reset didn't solve it either.
But now I have a bigger problem. The iPod is not recognized by the iTunes anymore, and the program freezes anytime I try to connect ir. As soon as it is disconnected, everything is back to normal. But the Ipod always reboots.
It is recognized in the desktop tough.
Here's what I've already tried unsuccesfully:
    1. Hard Reset.
    2. Put it in disk mode. Still not recognized.
    3. Use Disk Utility. The disk verification says everything is in order. I've erased all content as well as format it in Mas OS Extended (Journaled). Later I've tried to erase it again but now displays a message error saying it cannot unmount the disk.
    4. Used differente USB ports.
    5. Saw all Apple support solutions. None worked.
    6. Researched a whole bunch of forums, including this one. Noticed a lot of people with the same problem, but had difficulty finding one more recent, so I decided to open a new discussion.
I would really appreciate any suggestions.
    Ipod Classic 160GB (2.0.4)
    Itunes (10.6)
    Mac OS Snow Leopard.
    Windows XP.

It seems to be working now. Amazing!
I would like to thank you both for the help, CaliforniaHighwaysGuy and AncientMumu.
Here's what I did. I wasn't getting folder acces from my Windows XP because it was Macintosh formated.
So I connected it again to the Mac and used an online tutorial to be able to access the hidden files through Terminal. (I'm not sure if it's allowed to post links to tutorials from other sites, but I'll look into the rules and post, if possible).
Had to relaunch FInder a few times as it stopped responding from time to time. Went to iPod_Control > iTunes and erased all the files.
Disconnected the iPod, as it was still not recognized by iTunes (10.6).
Connected it to my Windows, wich has the 10.4 version of iTunes. Restored (Windows format) it and disconnected.
Went back to the Mac, and it was recognized. I Didn't restore it.
I've already transfered one album and it synced just fine. (One of the problems I was having is that the music transfer was really slow).
Already reconnected the iPod and it was once again recognized after a few seconds.
I really appreciate all the help.
I'll try to updated this post in a few days saying if it's still working properly.

  • TS1410 iPod classic suddenly not recognized by iTunes

My 30Gb Ipod suddenly is no longer recognized in iTunes on my MacBook Pro. And all the music on it appears to have been wiped clean. However when I plug it into a PC, the device is recognized as a portable hard drive that it wants to reformat. And iTunes does still sync fine with my iPhone and iPod Nano. Can anyone help with this please?

Well, my 3rd gen iPod (that's so old it has to connect using FireWire), my 4th gen iPod (2004 model), and my 1st gen iPod shuffle (from 2005) all still work fine on my iMac with the latest iTunes.  Can't believe everything on the Internet...
If it looks like the iPod currently has no songs on it when you look on the iPod, you should probably do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes.  There may be data corruption on the iPod's hard drive.  This is done from the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install its software, and set it to default setting.
Since the iPod is not being recognized by iTunes when connected, put the iPod into Disk Mode first
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
Hopefully, iTunes will now see it.  It may say the iPod is in "Recovery Mode."  Try doing a Restore, if possible.

  • TS1538 My iPod Touch isn't recognized in itunes.

My ipod touch isn't recognised in iTunes on the computer I always use to sync music onto it. (I can't see "Omar's iPod" in the left column.)
When I plug it in and I open up iTunes, the device isn't shown.
However, the device is shown in My Computer.
When I plug it into other computers, iTunes recognises my device. (I can see "Omar's iPod" in the left column.)
I've tried every method, except for Recovery Mode because I don't want to lose any of the files on my iPod.
I've done every method in the Apple trouble shooting manuals.
I need iTunes to recognise my device, help please.

  • IPod Classic not being recognized by iTunes

Okay, so I've had an iPod Classic (30 gb) for a while now, and it stopped working for some unknown reason. The thing that's happening is that it's not recognized by the computer at all; once I plug it into the USB drive, the computer says that there's a USB device that isn't recognized. iTunes doesn't pick it up, and with that in mind, I can't reformat it at all. I know for a fact that it's not the cable that is faulty because I've used it with a friend of mines iPod, and even ON my computer, so this is a bit puzzling....
To make things worse, the battery is completely dead, and when I plug it in, this weird symbol appears on the screen.... it doesn't look like a normal "recharging" symbol. It appears more like this one:
    Actual default charging example
    http://images.apple.com/support/ipod101/anatomy/images/anatomy03-1.jpg
My iPods picture (which I outlined with MS Paint for a better view)
    http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/AVMYoshi/Scraps/IMG000035.jpg
It also RANDOMLY begins charging.... although I'm aware of this because while the iPod is connected, the battery icon is green with the little thunderbolt flashing, I believe..... I'm not sure, it's only done that once so far, but I made sure to check that if it was even at all charging, it was still not identified by the computer or iTunes. So any help would greatly be appreciatted...

    Hi There,
Sounds like you've got a few issues going on there... If your device is not recognizing the iPod, than you could have an issue with the drivers on the PC which maybe a uninstall and reinstall of iTunes COULD fix...
However, based on what you're also saying about the icons on the screen you may have a device issue... Can your iPod's screen be found on this page?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1435
As the image you're trying to display is this one of those under the low charging icons, which may be normal... But if you're having other issues by the iPod just stopping then that's why I say your iPod may be having an issue... Plus the version of the iPod that you have is one of the original ones which have been discontinued for a while now.
If you can't find a resolution but want this device, try iResQ.com they offer some great services and buy users old iPods to fix ones like yours...
Otherwise you might have to bite the bullet and get a new device.
Sorry but that's about the only advice one can offer to you!

  • IPod Classic is not recognized by iTunes

    Hie There,
my i Pod Classic latest generation (Video) was a view days ago recognized by iTunes.
Now it is not recognized when i plug it via USB to my Mac Book Air (2013).
Why is that happened? I did`t changed any settings in itunes.
I Thought about to reset my iPod Classic, but even this ist not working and itunes don`t recognizes my iPod Classic anymore.
    Can somebody help.
Thank You and have a nice Day all!!!!

Hi I had a similar issue with my 160gb Classic
Went through many things with Apple on the phone all to no avail.
Took it to the Genius Bar and managed to get it recognised by iTunes and then restore....but when i plugged it into my MBA or IMac it was not recognised by iTunes and just appeared on the desktop..again.
Given that i am using Yosemite and iTunes 12 and reinstalled iTunes, Apple answer was to do a reinstall on my MBA!
Reluctantly i did this and it worked!!!!!!!!
It was recognised by the ancient iTunes9 before updating to 12 again and it was still recognised....
Just got to reinstall all my music, photos, documents.....at least i have my retro 160Gb iPod Classic to load everything on....
    hope this helps

  • My Ipod Classic isn't recognized by my computer

I have an 80GB ipod classic. I have never had a problem syncing it until just recently. When i plug the ipod in to my computer the ipod lights up and says connected. • TS1538 My ipod classic is sometimes recognized by itunes and a message that the ipod was corrupted and would need to be reset.

I have an ipod classic 120gb.  The other day it just       quit working after I downloaded an ebook to it.  I have tried 3 different computers with 3 different operating systems (Windows 7, Vista and XP) and I have received the same response from all after I hooked up my ipod to itunes (running latest version).  The message comes back that the ipod has been corrupted and needs to be reloaded.  I downloaded the software and it appears to be loaded onto the ipod as I get a message back that it is restarting the ipod.  However, after this "restart", it just appears to die and is never recognized by itunes.  I do a safe disconnect from Windows, closed itunes and bring it up again, but it does the same thing. The ipod does show up in my Windows control panel.
I feel like I am lost in some continuous vicious loop, any suggestions out there?  Thanks....

  • TS4062 My Ipod classic isn't recognised by Itunes and it won't sync. I have tried everything-please help!

I have the latest version of Itunes and I've tried reinstalling it but it made no difference. I recently got a new laptop (a toshiba, windows 8) and downloaded itunes onto it and logged in because I have the same itunes account on other laptops. Syncing is not a problem on the other laptops.
When I plug my ipod into this one, it just says its connected, thats all. Furthermore, I don't have the option to sync using the Devices tab in File because it isn't highlighted when I plug it in.
I have tried other things that have been suggested for problems like these, but nothing seems to be working. I'm wondering if its just because my ipod isn't registered or something. If so, does anyone know how to do that?
Thank you so much in advance for reading this. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
