My iPod deleted all my music and playlists on the iPod when synching!
I turned on wifi on my iPod and opened up iTunes today to add music to the iPod. It was doing fine, then suddenly a song I was adding froze (it stayed grey on iTunes with a synching icon by it). It stayed like that for I don't know how long, I thought it was fine and so I wasn't looking. I look back a while later and every song on my iPod as displayed on iTunes has an exclamation point by it. I look at my iPod and it says "No Music." iTunes still knows all my playlists and songs and shows my iPod as having them all, except for all the exclamation points.
What happened, and how do I get all my music and playlists back?
I have an iPod Touch 4g with iOS 5, and iTunes 10.
Currently trying to do a restore from a backup I made about a week ago. I don't know if that will help; I'll update when it's done.
EDIT: Music still gone.

To stop this, don't use the same Apple ID on both phones for iMessage and FaceTime. (You can continue to use the same ID for iTunes; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID used for iMessage or FaceTime.)
On one of the phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID. Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime. -

It doesn't say anything. It runs through the sync process like normal and tells me all of the songs that it's synking. But then when it says I can disconnect it, nothing actually synked.

I have an iPod Classic 5th Generation. I have not used it for about one month. When I turned it on, I had lost all my music and playlist files. The only thing left on the iPod was the music and audio books I have purchased from iTunes store. I tried to delete everything on the ipod by sliding the hold button and then pressing the center button and the menu and I saw the apple logo on the screen but the iPod wouldn't reboot. Any suggestions as to how I can delete everything on the iPod and then plug it into my computer to restore my music library? I am using a Windows 7 operating system.
Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
Sync your library.

No, unless the songs were purchased from iTunes. In that case, you Transfer Purchases to computer iTunes.

ok i was syncing my itouch and it came up with this message that it couldnt find the itouch so i unplugged it and hooked it back up. when i went to the summary page on itunes, it shows that all my songs and movies were deleted and was replaced with the orange section (other). now i have no room to put movies but only songs. do i have to restore my ipod to get my space back or do i have to just deal with it. also if i have to restore my ipod will i have to pay for it since my itouch is a 1st gen.
my problem is similar to this but my ipod touch was not hooked up to a computer, i did not sync it, it just randomly deleted all my music and videos. All my apps and pictures are still on it. When it is hooked up to itunes, the capacity bar full with my "music", but it lists it as other. This has happened once before, and i would really appreciate if this problem could be resolved.

Wanted to transferr purchases from a different ipod to my itunes libary however, when I clicked transferr purchases it deleted all my music and replaced it with the purchase I had transferred this has never happend before... please help
Yes i've tried all of that. I've turned it all the way on and off and erased all of my music and put it back on and nothing works. And with the breaking up CDs and putting into compilation categories i have already fixed all of that stuff. It's fine it just doesn't show up in the list of artists. I can find the album in the songs category and the albums category it's just it doesn't show tha name of the artist. All of the other albums that i downloaded before i updated my itunes to th most recent update are fine. It's just the two that i downloaded afterwards. Thanks for trying though.

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
Come back with the results.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

Why does iTunes delete all my music and then re-download (not all of) it when I sync?
So, I plugged my phone into my PC, and it loaded on the iTunes screen. I then went into the device and removed a couple of playlists from the phone (it had run out of space). When I then hit sync, rather than just removing the playlists and syncing to update anything that needed updated, it bloody well deleted ALL my music and then started downloading it again. We are talking about around 30-50GB of music. Not only this, but it appears to NOT download all the tracks on my playlists so I'm left with half the music I should have.
I have had this happen before and last time it totally screwed up my phone leaving me with the only option of completely reinstalling iOS7. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it fixable? Not only this, but I am aware of "manage music manually" but have no idea where it is or how to activate it. I'm just bloody sick of apple! Why can't they get their **** together and fix these little bugs. I love their hardware but they clearly have too many ego driven tossers programming their software who don't think fixing issues is their problem!

Below the album title it will list the artist(s). The issue seems to happen when there are multiple artists. For example, an Album titled "Over the Sea to Skye" has The Chieftains and James Galway as artists. Some tracks (for whatever reason) will list only one of these and result in the playlist showing what appears to be multiple albums. You can click on the artists and it will highlight. Paste in what is appearing on the other "albums" and it will then show as one:
Hope that is somewhat clear enough to help. Doesn't fix whatever the issue is but it is a workaround. For me this is only happening with CD's that I have imported. -
Automatically Syncing my 3rd Gen IPod Touch, All my music and videos show in the device on iTunes, but when I look at the device itself, it say no content. Can someone help? The Apps seem to sync fine, just not the music, videos, podcasts, or audiobooks.
Change your iCloud ID password: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624. After doing so, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new password.

I have an iPhone 5, a PC, a laptop and a tablet and I would like to make it so that if I make changes on one device it affects everything. I have an active iTunes match subscription but I'm not sure if that's the issue. So like if I buy a song new song on my iPhone and I add it to an existing playlist or create a new one, I want it to be the same way or update on all my devices and vice versa. Like I currently have a playlist that I created on my phone and I would like it to sync to all my computers but it will not for some reason. Also, when I plug my phone into my computer (whether it be my PC or laptop) that I have purchases and what not that are not present on said device and would I like to transfer...but then it can only be synced to one library? If you have iTunes match enabled, you should be to change playlists on your iPhone and also turn on automatic downloads on all devices

Manual sync is not available when match is turned on and in any event the sync is one way - PC to iOS devices.

Yes. You can sync everything that is currently on your iPod Touch to your newer one. Just plug it in and sync it like you did with the old one.
If you want to retain your App data, see this article for information on backing up your current iPod Touch and restoring the backup onto a new one.

The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.
