My ipod has frozen and isn't being recognised by itunes
Recently, my iPod has been having troubles. It's been freezing in the middle of songs and when I try to change track, and, up till today, it's recovered. It's now been frozen for three hours. I restored the factory settings a couple of days ago, and it workeds, but only for a few hours.
This morning, it froze in the middle of the song, and it's now not being recognised by iTunes. I've tried to do a hard reset, but it's not responding at all.
It's an iPod Classic 30GB, and I think it's a 5th Generation. I got it second hand, and so I don't think I can take it and get it fixed and whatnot without paying money. Is it worth getting a new iPod? There is an Apple store near me, so I can take it in and see what they say, but as I said, it's second hand and it's past the warrenty.
Charge the iPod for at least 2 hours
Do the iPod Hard Reset -> Press Menu and Center Button simultaneously for at least 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
Then release the buttons

If you plan to get a new iPod, get the iPod Touch and avoid at all cost the iPod Classic, the new generation of HD in the iPod Classic appear to be not very sturdy and reliable, in my Opinion, yours is still more sturdy, (6 years old), but the battery and hardisk would be in the last lap. The full charge battery should last at least 20 hours of continuos music.
You can do the iPod Disk diagnostic to see the HD health, as posted by tt2.

I turned the computer on with my ipod connected and went to Itunes,. Then it asked if i wanted to update Ipod, it was a recodnised update to i continued. Then it started to sync,. iTunes should automatically open and display the following message:
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."Note: If iTunes not open after two minutes, please open iTunes yourself.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to try a hard reset of the device. To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If the issue still persists, you'll want to connect the iPod to iTunes and restore it to factory settings allowing it to receive a fresh new copy of its software and rebuild all of its essential databases that could have become corrupt. This will help rule out a software issue.

Ipod touch 6.1.3 not being recognised by iTunes 10.7
Just got a secondhand iPod Touch. It is on 6.1.3 and I have iTunes 10.7 running on my iMac 10.6.8. As far as I can see 6.1.3 is supported on iTunes 10.7. I tried the Apple trouble-shooting page but to be honest it wasn't that helpful.
If I set up Home Sharing then I can Home Share using the iPod Touch...which says that I do have connectivity at some level. Just that it is not being recognised by iTunes and so I am unable to load my apps or transfer any music over.Many thanks lllaass

Hi, I opened my new ipod 4th generation and had a play with it to initially find & install the amazon audible which I had been told was easy. Anyway I did it so I thought I would have a play with itunes. It regognized all my tracks and I managed to buy an album which I could not find in 'music'. I had to play each tarck, one at at time while they were recognised in history.
While on my laptop I tried to install my tracks but nothing happaened. I was asked to update which I did & then my ipod locked. I've turned it off but when I switch it back on iget a picture of a USB cable pointing to itunes. Logically I thought thaht meant connect to itunes, itunes woud not recognise it and gave a 3014 error.
I have a brand new ipod that is useless, i Feel useless like I am doing somthing wrong. Strange thing is I upgraded from a Philipps GoGear Connect which has bad reviews but at least I could listen to my music, play games and use audible.
Has anyone got any ideas. It was purchased through Amazon/Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com
Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.

Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

IPod touch 2nd gen isn't being seen by itunes
I have an ipod 2nd gen that recently will not connect to iTunes. I have two iphones that connect fine. Any suggestions? I will note that the power button on my ipod does not function, so anything requiring it cannot be done.
Thanks!iPod works fine and charges fine. It had lots of apps everything ok. Couldnt connect to itunes, so I decided to do a full restore. It came back up, still will not connect to itunes. Tried connecting it to my laptop running windows 7, connected fine and itunes sees it. Connect it back to my windows 8 PC and itunes will not show it as a device. Problem is that the last backup occured on the windows 8 pc. I want to restore it and be able to put movies on it from windows 8 PC so I need it to reconnect. I am not using same cable as phone as my phones are lighting cables. But the cord did work fine with laptop. The PC does show it on My Computer.

I was having this problem, my iPhone was being recognised by Windows XP as a camera but would not show up in the left hand column in iTunes. After going through all the tutorials, checking services and drivers, I decided to *turn WiFi off* and try again. Bingo. It sync'd first time and I have tested this method and it works everytime. Seems being connected to a wireless home network interferes with iTunes or something like that.

For some silly reason your apple iphone device driver gets moved under device manager and itunes can't see your phone as a result.
To fix the issue:
on your keyboard: windows key + pause/break key. Then select Device Manager on the left of the window.
If you expand Universal Serial Bus controllers you will likely not see "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" listed.
You'll have to do some poking around, because it will be under one of the other headers... found mine under "Portable Devices", but yours could literally be under any of them.
Once you find "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver", right-click and select uninstall. Follow prompts to uninstall.
Then right-click "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and select scan for hardware changes. Your PC will then install it to the proper location and iTunes will be able to see your iphone and sync.
Dunno why it does this, but it does.

So I've had the charging problem for a really long time now, and I haven't really minded it until now. The iPod still charges, but the battery icon doesn't light up or show the little lightning bolt anymore. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but now when I want to update it to IOS 6 I can't because neither my computer or iTunes detects it. It gets annoying because a lot of apps need at least IOS 5 to download. I am using Windows and iTunes 11.0.2.26.

IPod has "frozen" and wiped out; iPod software "null" on iMac
I connected our older iPod to my Mac the other night. While it is usually synced with iTunes my wife's "side" of the computer, I tried to load my iTunes library onto the iPod. It seemed to be working, but then froze. Although the message on the iPod was "Do not disconnect," I disconnected it. That seemed to have wiped out the contents on the iPod, as well as the iPod software on the Mac. Now when I hook up the iPod to the Mac, the image on the iPod is a disk with a circling magnifying glass. And, I also noticed on the Mac console that all of my prior iPod software updates now have a (null) designation after the task. I assume that means that the programs have been deleted.
How can I get up and running again? Thanks.Anyone else have this issue? Any luck resolving it? It just happened to mine today. I went to turn it on and all I get is "Wheel Test."
I can't get a menu. I can't even turn it off. Toggle does nothing. I tried to reset, but the computer doesn't recognize that it is even connected. I don't know if it is taking a charge or not.
I've never had a problem or unhappy face on the mini before. Any suggestions? -

basicly whats happe is that when i connect it to my pc itunes isnt recognising my ipod and windows is saying the disk needs to beformated.
its still playing music but the menu takes for ever to load and it takes 10 to 15 seconds to register me pressing play or skip or even sliding the lock on and off

Help, I have been trying to sync my iPod touch with my iTunes for over a week now, I have read upon troubleshooting and other various problems. I have downloaded the up to date iTunes but still will not recognise it. When I plug the iPod in, in makes a noise to say its been recognised on the pc as a new connection however still no show up on to the iTunes.

Hi, today I have tried to connect my iPad to my pc to update it, I've used iTunes within the las few weeks but I've no actually connect my iPad to m pc for a good few months. Anyway, today I updated to the latest version of iTunes, connect m iPad via USB and it's no coming up under devices in iTunes.
I've used a difference cable and USB port but no joy. However, when I connect my iPhone it picks up starlight away!
I got them both a the same time, iPad 2 and iPhone 4.
When I've connected the iPad with the same USB with the plug added then it charges fine.
I've rebooted the iPad, restarted it. Gone through all the steps apple suggest I go through when this happens but no joy!

My ipad (mini) and ipod are not being recognised by itunes?
When connecting both my ipad(mini) and ipod(7th gen) they are not being recognised by itunes. I last connected just over a month ago and everything was fine. When I last connected I also connected my old ipod(3rd gen) to add new playlists beforing giving to someone else. When I first plugged in I got a message saying that the cable was not Apple authorised - both my cables are cables supplied with my ipod/ipad so came from Apple? When I run diagnostics it says
"Most recent devices not currently connected, - iPod Nano (3rd Gen) and iPad Mini running firmware 6.1.3" This is the first time I have tried to connect since updated my iPad with IOS7? My iPod Classic (60GB) Clickwheel is not being recognised in iTunes although the iPod shows in 'My Computer'. The problem started with an error message in iTunes saying "Could not complete sync as devise may have become corrupt" and suggested I restore the iPod to factory settings which I have done several times. I've carried out an error check in the iPod properties. I've completely removed iTunes and all related software components in the correct order and reinstalled version 10.5.3. I have been through the 5 R's numerous times but still the iPod is not being recognised in iTunes. I have Windows XP, I'm tearing my hair out now so any help or suggestions would be great
Try and force iPod into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPod
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad -
My ipod nano 2nd gen just stopped being recognised in itunes. I'm using windows 8.1..and not had any problems with ipod touch 5th generation or nano 7th gen.
The ipod charges up as indicated by the battery icon but not being recognised at all in itunes or as a connected device or drive on my PC. was working fine the day before then just stopped. I can still listen to the ipod but obviously not load on new songs as not being recognised.Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and get it serviced. Sounds like the headphone jack has failed.
