My ipod is a complete mystery

My ipod is really causing me some problems.
Let me give a little backstory.
Recently, a tree was struck by lightning in our front yard and created a lot of problems. For instance, the power supply in the computer was blown. Upon replacing the power supply and putting more songs on itunes, when I went to update my ipod here is what happened:
After the update was complete, it said "ipod update is complete," but it didn't give me permission to disconnect. I accidentally disconnected the ipod without doing it safely but I don't think that's the problem.
I know the USB ports work because everything else works with them (USB ports). I've uninstalled Itunes and uninstalled the ipod updater. I reinstalled both (latest versions) and I updated the software on my ipod and I completely restored my ipod.
NOW, when I go to put music on my ipod, it will put nothing on it and still only say "Ipod update is complete," but it will not give me permisssion to disconnect.
Has anyone experienced this?

just checking ... if you head into your itunes "ipod" preferences tab (while the ipod is connected and showing up in the itunes sourcelist), do you find that you've got "manually manage songs and playlists" selected?

  • IPod sync is complete - then eject, then iTunes hangs

When I get the message "iPod sync is complete", I wait a few seconds, then click EJECT the iPod...
    THEN iTunes hangs.
If I wait ONE MINUTE after "iPod sync is complete", then iTunes does not hang.
    Does this sound right?
After that, the iPod won't dismount.
If I force-quit iTunes, it will quit, and on restart, it will say "Syncing iPod" for a while then say "iPod sync is complete", but then the iPod WON'T dismount.
    What a bag of nails.

You did not answer my previous question about using the Restore button... That might help, if you did not try that yet.
The latest iTunes is 8.0.1 (11), so you could try upgrading. If there was a bug, it might fix.
If you are using the +enable disk use+ setting (the iPod appears on Desktop as a drive), try setting that OFF, click the Apply button. Then set it ON again, and apply.
Also, try ejecting the iPod by dragging the icon on the Desktop to the Trash (or using right-click/Eject) instead of using the little button in iTunes. If you do it that way, does ejecting cause the crash you describe.

  • IPod 4th Gen completely dead

iPod 4th Gen completely dead and will not appear in iTunes. iTunes works perfectly fine with other devices.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
However, ou may have a hardware problem like a dead battery and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod sync never completes, if I cancel the sync a large portion of my music disappears

Hi, hopefully someone here can help!
I have recently had an issue with my iPod touch and iTunes 12.0.1.26. It has been a bit of a pain to sync ever since that update that screwed up other people's iThings but I hadn't had a problem in a few months. Now whenever I try to sync it will take a long time and never complete, always getting hung up on the last step before anything is transferred. If I unplug or cancel I get an error box that says the iPod couldn't be recognised and the sync failed to start even though it would get through to that last bit after backing itself up. After each failed attempt the Other data section becomes bigger until I get another error saying that there is not enough space on my iPod for everything, sometimes it is over capacity by 10GB. Every time this happens I end up with less and less music on my iPod until I get incomplete playlists and entire albums wiped off. After this the only solution seems to be a factory reset and restore from backup, which I have done twice already this week.
My phone will sync with no issues so I am not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. Its winding me up, anyone have any ideas? I have already removed and reinstalled iTunes and have done a reset on the iPod.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another USB port
    - Try another cable
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Sync done, iPod update is complete: Where are my songs and videos?

So there is my problem... I have 35 songs in my iTunes music library. When I plug in my iPod to sync the music, it starts syncing, then says its completed and it's ok to disconnect.... yet there are no songs in my iPod. I have to sync and desync about 10 times before it does work... each time I want to put a new song or whatever. I turned back the iPod, tried with a new one, same problem. Reinstalled the latest version of iTunes, same problem. Tried another USB port, same problem.
Anyone got an answer to my question? Would be really helpful.

  • My iPod nano never completely turns off.....

I will wait until a song ends or I will push pause and then hold down the play button. It turns off. But I will leave it like that for 3 days and I will click play and it will turn right back on like I just turned it off. What I am trying to say is that it is like it is always on standby and it never shows the Apple Logo when turned back on. Is there a setting to this? My brother's iPod nano (1st Gen) and my sister's iPod video 60GB always turns completely off after 12 hours. So after 12 hours on their iPods you click play and the Apple sign shows and then turns on. But mine never does that. Can anyone understand what I am trying to say? Any help?
    Thanks!

Mine is the same. See this about "hibernation".
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60945
Although it says after a period of inactivity of 14 hours or more, when you turn it on again you should see the Apple logo, mine almost always resumes from where it left off unless it's not been used for a long time.
The power is still conserved so I wouldn't worry about it.

  • IPOD STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY

Any help would be much appreciated!
My Ipod Nano's battery ran down, and when i went to recharge it, it is completely dead. I have tried all the steps mentioned regarding resetting etc, and i even took it to an apple retailer, who could not get it to work at all.
Do I have to assume it is gone, and get a new one after 12 months of use. (yes, it's out of warranty, typical).
    Thanks for any advice!

Try charging it for at least 30 minutes (a wall charger works best for this) and then Reset it while it is still connected to power. You may have to try this several times. Once it revives, fully charge it and then Restore it in iTunes.
If this does not work why not try replacing the battery? If you have heavily used this iPod the battery may be dead.
