My ipod is not recognized on a new computer after old one crashed.  I have painstakenly restored all songs and playlists.  I deautorized all, and the reauthorized new computer.  It won't sync.

My ipod is now recognized on a new computer after old one crashed.  I installed itunes on the new computer, and have painstakenly restored all songs and playlists. I also purchased several new songs from the itunes stores.  Now my ipod will not sync with the new computer.  I deauthorized all computers, then reauthorozed the new one.  My ipod still won't sync.

...after running diagnostics through itunes, itunes says  "device not found"  Seems there are a lot of others having this problem, and it seems to be related to new version of itunes.  Apple should do something to fix this.

  • Need to authorise new laptop after old one crashed.  Have 5 computers already authorised and cannot wait until July for 12 month "Deauthorise all computers" to become available again.  How can I authorise this new laptop?

Hello... I need to authorise a new laptop after my old one completely died (before I could deauthorise it!!).  I have 5 computers already authorised and cannot wait until July for the 12 month "deauthorise all computers" option to become available again.  Does anyone know how can I authorise this new laptop as one of the 5, in place of the old one?  Any help gratefully received!

Go to one of the authorized computers and de-authorize it individually.
The one year limitation is ONLY for the de-authorize all option.

  • Moving to new computer after old one crashed

My problem is similar to this one (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2508342&tstart=45), but the old computer crashed and I don't have access to any of the old content or iTunes library. When I plugged the iPod in to the computer, I told iTunes to transfer my iTunes purchases from the iPod to the library and it looks like it did. But now it won't sync. I get the message "This iPod is synced to another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
I don't particularly want to erase because I have content on the iPod from non-iTunes sources, such as ripped CDs that I haven't re-ripped yet to the new computer. Do I have any choice? Did I do the right thing in the first place or should I start over somehow?

It's pretty old -- a 3rd Gen Nano. I just realized that I have a copy of what is probably most of the music on an external USB drive, probably along with the other files associated with the library, but I haven't had a chance to check yet. If not, then the only copy of everything is on the iPod.
But the problem is more getting it to sync, although if I find that I have all of the music, I could just let it erase the iPod and refresh it.

  • Putting music onto new computer after old one crashed

i put my itunes onto my old computer, which crashed recently. now i have a new laptop and i need all my old music thats currently on my ipod, onto my laptop. how can i do this?

Apple doesn't support the transferring of music from your iPod to your iTunes. Only iTunes to iPod. So to do this you will need to download a third party program that will help copy your music from your iPod back to your computer, or there are a couple manual methods you can check out.

If you iPod is set to automatically update and you plug it into iTunes, a message will pop up telling you that your iPod is linked to another library. It will ask if you want to sync and replace all your music. Make sure you hit NO. If you sync with an empty library, then your iPod will also end up empty, because when it syncs it makes an exact copy of your library.

  • Transfer library to new computer after old one crashed

My old PC crashed and the data partition has completely been erased so now all of my music only exists in my iPod. I have a new laptop and would like to transfer my library to the new computer, however I'm worried that it may just erase the music if I just plug it into the new computer. The current setting is on auto-synch and not manual. Can I just install iTunes onto my new computer, set it to manual, and plug in the iPod? Suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, Tim!
I'll answer your question in just a minute but before doing so I'd like to say that I hope you take this as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
If you place any importance on your playlists and the data they depend on, you will want to include your iTunes Library files in your back-up regimen as well.
Anyways, that's the lecture. The answer to your problem should be found in this post:

Good Luck! But once your music is back on your computer, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

  • Sync iPod to new computer after old one crashed

    My MacBook recently crashed. :(
I had my iPod Touch 2G synced to it. I know how to sync my iPod to the new computer and keep iTunes Purchased content but what I don't know is how to sync it and not lose any songs, pictures etc. that were not downloaded from iTunes. Can someone please help?
    Thanks in Advance!
    Adamb14113
P.S. I do have a backup of my iTunes library because we were able to save my data from the old Mac but it was not fully up-to-date because I had begun to download most of my things over the air without ever plugging in to iTunes.

Make sure your newly set up MacBook is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

How can I upload my ipod shuffle tunes to my new computer? Old one crashed.

Have you not got a backup of your content on, for example, an external drive that you can copy onto your new computer ? If not, then depending on which country that you are in you might be able to re-download iTunes purchases from the store. Otherwise you will need to find a third-party program to copy the music off the iPod - this post from a couple of years mentions some that were around at the time, I don't know whether they still exist and work.

  • How do I use my Ipod/Ipad on a new computer after old one has broke without removing everthing from them

My laptop has recently broke and is not able to use in any way. I had an Ipod and an Ipad both connected to the itunes on this computer and have purchased a new laptop. However, after downloading itunes i tried to sync my devices with it but it told me that all my contents was going to be erased and could only be connected to one computer... I was wondering if there was any way of of keeping all of my data and allowing my new laptop to replace my old one in account of itunes? Any help will be most appricated !!!
    Thanks

Hello again and sorry to bother you. I was hoping you could help me with iTunes 10.5. This update has been a pain. When I first installed it, my entire library was gone. Luckily, I saved the "iTunes Library" file before updating and copied it in place and my library appeared. But now the problem I'm having is that the iTunes can't find any of the "original" files, even though my iTunes Media file location has not changed (it's on an external network drive". When I click on the "Do you want to find the original file" I can find it in the appropriate folder. I checked the "Preferences" and under "Advanced" I re-mapped it to the appropriate location and already had the 2 boxes for iTunes organizing files checked. Then went to "File" and "Organize Library" and clicked the first check box and then got the "Copying Files" bar. When this was completed, I thought it would be able to find the original files. But I'm still getting the same error message about not being able to find the "original" files. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

  • How do I get an old library to a new computer? Old one crashed

How do I get my library of music to a new computer? I authorized the new computer but nothing is going to the new computer Please help

your library won't magically appear on the new machine.
    this is one option:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
however, the music feature is currently available in the US only.
if you have your library on an iPod, check out this post by Zevoneer.
you can also remove the HDD from the crashed computer, put it in an external enclosure, and try to retrieve your library from it.
of course, the easiest way would be to restore from your latest backup. if you don't have one, start backing up once you're up and running. get an external HD and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) to it. use e.g. SyncToy to keep both folders in sync.
    SyncToy
SyncToy 2.1 is a free application that synchronizes files and folders between locations. Typical uses include sharing files, such as photos, with other computers and creating backup copies of files and folders.

  • I have a new PC (my old one crashed). I can't remember my old username/pword. I tried to set up a new acct. and my I Pod is erased! How can I get the songs back?

My old PC crashed, I bought a new one.  When in I tunes on my new PC, I could not remember my old username and password.  I created new ones.  Then I was instructed to connect my I Pod to my PC via USB,  Then I was asked if it was OK for I Tunes to erase all my data on my I Pod, Yes or Cancell.  I pressed Cancell.   All my 2,700 songs were promptly erased!
How can I retrieve them?  I can't remember my original username and password.

Unfortunately, if the iPod data has been erased by iTunes, there is no way you can retrieved them.

  • How to transfer account/library to new computer after old one died?

My 4 year old Windows XP computer had a meltdown last weekend and the hard drive was re-set to original factory status - erasing tons of programs, data, settings etc that had accumulated over the years. Fortunately I have much of the C-Drive backed up and most data was moved some time ago to a network drive so all 4 of our household computers can access the same data. But some data, like Itunes and Outlook Calendar are stored by default on the C drive. I started restoring programs but concluded the computer still had stability issues and since I was overdue for a new one, got a new Windows 7 model. I still have the old one and it sort of works so I can copy files from it to the new one if needed. My Ipod Touch was synched recently and it is super valuable because i had a lot of info in my old computer's Outlook Calendar that I assume was also lost, but it is on my Ipod. How can I synch it safely onto the now bare Outlook on my new computer? Will the blank outlook synch my Ipod to blank? Can I rescue my 2500 song library and thousands of contacts?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

... Anyway, all of my iTunes library on that machine is lost I suppose. I didn't have it synced to my phone at the time due to space issues, so I don't have a copy of the library anywhere except in a Time Machine backup. I don't want to restore this new MBA with the entire backup, only the iTunes library. Is it possible? Or can I just re-download the songs since this new iTunes account is set up in the same Apple ID?
Your iTunes Library is unrelated to your logic board, however, you will need to "authorize" your computer to play your iTunes purchased content since iTunes considers a new logic board a completely new computer (which it is).
If for some reason your iTunes Library was lost, of course you can restore it from Time Machine. You can also re-download your iTunes purchased music again since it is all linked to your Apple ID.
You won't be charged for what you already bought.

  • Impossible to update to new itunes -- after old one stops working and refuses to update

I'm trying to load a new version of itunes onto my wife's computer after the old one hasn't been able to update or even visit the music store. I tried following the recommendations from the site to delete (through control panel/add and delete programs) and was unable to successfully delete the older programs. The same goes for quicktime.
It was recommended that I delete the following programs on the apple site...
    itunes
    quicktime
    apple software updater
    apple mobile device support
    bonjour
    apple applications support.
being unable to delete these programs successfully, the installer halts and says I need to delete completely the old programs.
Any manual delete tips from you guys? The operating system is XP
