My ipod touch 4th gen. will not allow me to adjust volume with my speaker, but will with headphones. How do i fix this?

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem

try to restore in itunes bye putting in recovey mode turn the ipod off press the home button and plug in the ipod into the computer. an itunes shuld see it in recovery mode and click restore. and that should do the trick.

You can't backup the iPod t iTunes then. You will have to use an existing iTunes backup.
If iCloud backup is turned on and the iPod is still working (not disabled), the iPod will automatically backup daily if an internet connection is available and the iPod is connected to a charging source.

What may work is to restore the iPhone fom the backup of the iPod. However, if the two devices ahve different apps that come with the device, that may mess up some of the folders.

If not caused by accidental damage, the iPod Touch includes a one year warranty. If your iPod Touch remains under warranty, you can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby. If the iPod Touch remains under warranty you open the iPod Touch youself or by a 3rd party, doing so will void the warranty. i did that middle button and top button for 6-10 seconds, hold play button, that hold button and got it right back and still it won't on but it is detected on my pc and itunes. i've already even put on some songs but it keeps on charging and charging for how many hours and if i remove it, it shuts off and won't turn on again.

Take FULL advantage of your warranty. Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

The title kinda says it all, I have a iPod Touch 4th Gen., that I have had for almost 2 years. And it has worked wonderfully, up until a few day ago, when I noticed that the home button was getting harder and harder to push on. and then earlier today it just stopped working all together. To exit out of an app, I had to stut off the iPod and restart it again.
I have considered sending it to Apple, but at, $105 (estimated) I was wondering if there was any other ways to fix the problem. And I'm not even sure if it's a problem with the hardware, or the software.

Both mine and my husbands ipod touch 4th genereation ipods are not being recognized by itunes. We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, restarting computer and ipods. Open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, unlock it, and allow applications from anywhere. Alternatively, launch each application by control-clicking it and choosing Open.
