I have same broken iPod Touch 4G, I'm stuck on the Apple logo and only what I can do is just restart. If I connect iPod turns on but that's all. I checked a lot of tricks how to restart/reboot device and how to get DFU but I have only the logo. iTunes on my mac can't recognize the device.
And in Apple retail store the guy told me: sorry it's dead. We can fix for about £200. After 1 month when my waranty is finished. Funny isn't it? I can't believe that my lovely iPod is dead after 13 months. Where is the "for quality you have to pay." Is it conspiracy if you don't buy extra waranty we will send you killing signal into your iDevice?

My IPOD TOUCH is frozen with the Apple logo sitting there on the screen. I have already reset the ipod because it was freezing up so I reset it, but now it won't shut off or got o main screen it just sits with the logo on it. I can't turn it off. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

i found this method after much serching on the net
1.             Connect your device to yourcomputer and open iTunes.
2.             Hold down the “Home”button.
3.             Keeping “home” held in holdthe “sleep/wake” button.
4.             Keep both held in until theapple logo shows
5.             As soon as the apple logoshows release the “sleep/wake” button.
6.             Keep the “Home” button heldin until the iTunes logo and a picture of the USB lead is shown.
7.             Now release the “Homebutton and follow the instructions within iTunes.
also i could not see the ipod on itunes but folowed the instructions and the computer found it

My daughter Nano just shows the apple logo and that is it can'y do anything with it.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for 10 to 15 seconds and see if it then reboots - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a computer reboot. If that doesn't work then you might better help in the iPod forum (this is the iPad forum)

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

It would help to know whether it ever did work, or is this a new iPad for you? If new, you need to connect it to a Mac/PC that's running iTunes in order to register and initialize it. If it used to work, try doing a reset.
