Seems, iTunes can't read your backup anymore. Copy the backup folder to a safe place before you delete the latest backup from the list in iTunes/Preferences/Devices
The folder where your backup data is stored changes depending on the computer's operating system. Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device, you should ensure the backup folder is included in your periodic data backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

After you deleted the backup from the list, try again to sync.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have tried everything, i just got a new computer and i don't have the software that came with my mini ipod but I installed the latest versions that are on the site but my computer only charges my ipod it doesn't recognize it so i can't put any songs on it

I've got exactly the same problem.
I tried the following:
1. Call up Apple Service Centre, they advise me to find another computer which can "re-format" the Ipod.
2. I went back to Apple Store - where I bought the I-Pod.
They plug that in the computer in the shop. It recognised there and the man told me he has just formatted for me, but back home you need to format that again. (He didn't tell me how to but simply ask me to follow the prompt)
3. Back home, place the Ipod set up disc in CF Rom Drive. Up to the stage where it says, "Please plug and see if your Ipod needed to be formatted". Tried to plug the Ipod with USB Port.
4. NOTHING SHOWS IN WINDOW - recognising there's new hardware. Ipod Menu shows up and Ipod shows it's charging. After 10 seconds, it said CHARGED COMPLETED.
COMPUTER COULD NOT RECOGNISE the IPOD AT ALL.
I am really frustrated now and don't know what to do.
This IPOD Mini is my 2nd replacement.

I have recently bought on ipod touch 4g, Ive downloaded free apps from the app store and after about a day or two, i cannot open them, i click on them and they take me back to the home sceen. the only way ive been able to geet round this is to fully reset and redownload the apps but that only works for another few days.

My external monitor and MacBook Pro screen turn different colours and freeze while in use - only restarting the computer will refresh the display. Is there a way this can be fixed? It is happening more and more frequently.

The monitor is Philips brand and works perfectly fine usually. Every now and again it will happen mid-use and I have to constantly re-start my laptop.

The F7 key should also toggle between extended desktop and mirroring. If you open the lid on the PB, you should see that the F7 key is imprinted with two overlapping rectangles. That's supposed to represent the mirroring function and pressing the key should toggle the function (unless you had previously turned off the function keys).

Just what have you tried. There are many Apple articles on the subject and it easy to miss one or more. Did it work before? Did you do anything to the computer since it last worked? oDoes the iPod work OK? Have you tried:

Hi was syncing my ipod touch 4th gen it does not recognise my ipod in itunes and have been restarting the computer and following instructing to try and get it going again but nothing will work. All i am left with on my screen is a picture of the ipod cable with an arrow pointing upwards the word itunes then the itunes blue circle with the music note in it. any ideas on how this can be restored as i have now drawn a blank.

Ipod touch 4 not detected in itunes

itunes does not detect my ipod touch 4 running on ios 5 so went to apple support. i did as it said. they said that go to device manager, click universal serial bus controllers, select apple mobile device service, press uninstall, then right click on universal serial bus controllers, then selct scan for any hardware changes, then the support said that windows will automatically reinstall apple mobile device service. but my windows did not install amds back. before doing all this i even tried going to services and then restarting the amds. but that worked only for one day. the next day it did not detect so i again did the same thing but this time it did not work. so i went to device manager and did all that which i mentioned above. and now i am stuck. before when the windows detected my ipod it showed a black icon just like mu ipod touch. but now it shows a camera icon. so i dont know what to do????????. apple devices are sooooooooooooooo complicated. my laptop is running on windows vista. anyway u guys can help me? i depend on u guys. please help me out. i cant even contact apple because i live in saudi arabia. but if there is any other way to contact apple like email please let me know it.

Podcast category for iPod Touch does not show in iTunes

When connecting my iPod Touch to iTunes, the "Podcasts" category no longer appears in the sidebar under "Devices". The category DOES appear under the Library portion of the sidebar, however. I prefer to manage and sync my podcasts manually within iTunes, but I now have no way of removing old podcasts from my iPod.
I'm running iTunes 10.0.1.22 under Windows XP and my iPod Touch 3rd generation is running iOS 4.0.

No, you have to update to iOS 5 via iTunes/USB. One you get iOS you can further update via wifi.
