My ipod touch thinks headsets are plugged in as indicated when pressing volume control. We did a reset but that did not work. What is next?
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

I have forgotten my answers to the questions which are asked to identify me, and I am trying to press "send instructions to my e-mail", but this does not work, what should I do?
If the email hasn't arrived after a few hours and isn't in a spam filter, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "
THis is means they are not charging on a 30 pin cable and the touch won't work in my Apple iPod dock - no audio out or charge. Have re powered both devices to no avail am wondering if the iOS version is the problem
Help!If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be. -

Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.

Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes -
my ipod touch is not working , i tried to rest it holding the power button and home for a while but that does not help..
any idea ?Connect the iPod to its syncing computer. Let it charge for 1/2 hour . If iTunes sees the iPod restore it via iTunes
Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

I just updated my 3G ipod touch to ios 5.0.1 and lost volume control except when headphones are used, it will no longer work in my speaker dock, any suggestions?
- iOS 5 seems to have messed up connecting with Bose docks:
Re: iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS5, now Bose SoundDock not working
- Have you tried the standard fixes
--- Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
--- Restore from backup
--- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod -
My Ipod touch is frozen, I turned it off and back on but it is not working
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again. -
ipod screen is frozen and the screen is stuck on the itunes symbol and usb cable and will not clear off when we tried to reset
The picture you describe is the subject of the Update and restore alert messages on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch support article. There are troubleshooting suggestions there.
Hope that helps. -
Like, every time I hit recover, it tries to contact the server or whatever and then it can't find it. The screen is stuck with the iTunes and the USB cable thing on it. Somebody please help me! Do you think if I take this to Radio Shack where my mom bought it for me my warrenty would help either get a new iPod or they could fix this for me? If anybody knows how to fix it, pleaseeeeee, pleeeeease help me out.
Download RecBoot and see if that will kick it out of recovery mode.
Try doing a manual install following the instructions in the link below.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

App will not
If Apple determines that an iPod is not repairable, for example, if it has failed due catastrophic damage or the iPod has been disassembled into multiple pieces, then Out-of-Warranty Service is not available and the iPod will be returned. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.
You are not the first to report that, as expected, microwaving an iPod damages it. -
