  • IPod won't turn off when plugged into computer! PLZ HLP!

I have an iPod touch 2g, and now whenever I connect it to iTunes, it won't turn off. It will just turn itself back on.

If you are unable to give specifics about the problem or what you need to do, it's going to be rather hard to give you recommendations or alternate suggestions.
As I said, if I recall correctly, the iPod will stay on if it's being charged. But, in case I'm misremembering, are you holding down the button until you see the red arrow that says "Slide to power off"? Have you tried restoring it?

  • HELP!!  IPOD WON'T TURN OFF

No matter what I do. It's stuck! It won't turn off. Right now it's unplugged from the computer & won't turn off. The battery will run down completely now.
I also had trouble with my computer recognizing the iPod after I installed the iTunes & software & imported a CD into iTunes library.
    HELP!!

you might try putting it to sleep. go to the main menu and choose settings, and then look around there for "sleep" it doesn't shou up on the main menu by default. select sleep and turn it from "off" to "on" then go back to the main menu and select sleep (press center button) and it should turn off.

  • Charged indicator seems to be stuck, ipod won't turn off!!! help

I took my ipod running last week and it got a little damp in my trousers!!
Since then it will not turn off anymore. I have let the battery die down. I have reset it on the ipod and on itunes, but nothing seems to help.
It just won't turn off, the charged sign (large battery with a plug in it) shows all the time.
If I leave if as it is over night, the battery is then dead.
    Can anybody help me.
It's an ipod nano 1gen. not even 6 months old.

If it got wet, set it in a cool, dry place and leave it there for at least a week. Then connect it to power (preferably a wall charger) and let it charge for at least 30 minutes, then Reset it (hold down the menu and center buttons for at least 6 seconds). If it comes to life, connect it to your computer, Restore it in itunes, then let it fully charge.

  • My iPod won't turn OFF, this is the third time its happened.

For the third time, my iPod won't shut off. The last time this happened, I loaded the latest firmware. It has been ok for about three months.
Now it won't shut off again. It appears to be a software issue.
Has anyone else had this happen?

yeah same with me, and its 2 days old too. i didn't get a chance to try resetting it, though, it just worked after a while.
bloody annoying though, it shouldn't be breaking already
i'm really happy i got the chance to say bloody annoying though, i hope it's appreciated

  • TS1425 my ipod won't turn off. I can still play/pause, but cannot turn it off

My ipod will not turn off. It still responds to the play/pause, but will not turn off

There is no way to actually turn the iPod off. Holding the Play/Pause button actually just puts the iPod to sleep.  And after so many hours from that point, it goes into a deeper sleep thus conserving battery life.

  • MENU button doesn't work and iPod won't turn off!!

For some reason, my menu button won't work nor will my iPod turn off when I hold down the play/pause button.
I've reset it, updated it, restored it and nothing is working. I bought it in the States last year so have no idea how the warranty works or where to get it serviced since I don't live near London.
    Any help would be appreciated

Ring your local Apple dealer, My older mini done the same thing several times before it just died on me and never turned back on. So if its still covered under warrenty i seriously think you should ring apple and get it serviced to see whats wrong, it could be just a fault with the click wheel
Try letting the battery run completly dead, then put it into a Wall charger or computer USB cable and then move the hold on and off, then try reseting it by pressing the menu and select buttons at the same time.

  • Help!  Ipod won't turn off after disconnecting

Okay I've had my Ipod nano for like 3 weeks. I've used it once. It worked fine when I first got it and after my battery ran out I haven't used it for about a week. When I got it back I hooked it up to my computer and updated the stuff on it as well as let it charge. After is says to safely disconnect, I disconnect it but it automatically turns off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting it and nothing works. I thought the battery was dead but I've left it plugged in (not only USB on my computer but also tried an outlet) and it never completely charged. I've even left it plugged in overnight (well over the 4 hours it's supposed to charge). I have no idea what to do (It also took like at least a full day to completely charge the first time I've had it)

  • 5th generation video ipod won't turn OFF

Everything else seems to work fine but I can't turn mine off. I tried to reset it but it won't reset either. All of the buttons work fine otherwise...even the pause/select button works.....unless I want to turn it off. Any ideas?

Pause the ipod, then let it sit. it should "turn off". however the ipod NEVER turnes off just sleeps. it will go in to a deep sleep after a few hours. just let it sit. also download the newest updater. 2006-10-01 try that out

  • IPod won't turn off and other topics

    Hello,
Just bought a beautiful new MacBook Pro, but need some help troubleshooting:
    1. When I first plugged my iPod (slim, black, 30GB) into the USB, my music could not be found. I ejected it, waited, and plugged it in again. This time my computer won't recognize my iPod at all, and my iPod bears the sign 'do not disconnect' and cannot be turned off. I did disconnect it eventually when I saw there was a problem, but am stuck on how to reboot my iPod now and try again. Any suggestions?
    2. If and when I do get this problem resolved, how can I transfer the music from my iPod to my empty iTunes library? Why isn't my music showing up, if it's still on the iPod?
    3. Is there an easy way to manually transfer photos from my iPod to iPhoto without erasing or overriding anything either one already contains?
    4. Unrelated to iPods: Entourage is having a **** of a time importing my emails from hotmail. It keeps crashing, is creating duplicate files, and is generally speaking, making a mess. Any word of advice on how to use Entourage in conjunction with a hotmail account? Also, if I send and receive mail from Entourage will I still be able to see the same emails from a remote location in hotmail, or does one replace the other?
Thanks so much for any advice! Your help is greatly appreciated!

For 1) You may need to reset it. Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.
    For 2) ...

  • My i pod touch crashed and is displaying a blank yellow screen and won't turn off what can i do?

My I pod crashed and now displays a blank yellow screen i can't switch it off what can I do.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod won't turn off

I have an iPod dock that i use to charge my iPod, and i noticed that when i plugged it in yesterday that it did not go to the charging screen, and it just stayed at the menu. I thought nothing of it, but when i took it out today, i discovered that i could not turn off my iPod! Is there something wrong with it, or is there a setting that i missed somehow that could cause this to happen? It will only go off when there is no more battery power. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Maybe I'm asking a daft question but were you sure that the ipod was located properly in the dock...? Have you tried the 5R's?
The so-called 5-R's will cure 90% of iPod users problems. They're really easy to do so give them a try and if they fail to solve your issue post back in this forum - there are many willing helpers who I'm sure will be able to offer further assistance. Click this LINK.

  • Ipod won't turn off sometimes

  • Ipod won't turn OFF or anything really, resetting continuously on its own

yep, my ipod actuallly keeps going to the apple screen as if it is being reset! the screen keeps lighting up w/ the apple symbol and then goes dark (keeps cycling through this) I'm afraid its going to overheat, its getting very hot and nothing in the manual addresses this problem
Its stuck in the resetting mode, I can't find an answer to the question 'what do you do after resetting and the apple appears on the screen?'
went through the 5R's w/o any luck (especially b/c its 'resetting' itself every 10 seconds!). I can't really complete the final 'R' as it's not connecting to my computer as it resets every minute I've had no problems connecting to my itunes prior to this, my software is up to date etc...
I let the battery die and charged it again to no avail
    any ideas....

    Hi musigal!
Let's try this technique, and see if your iPod gets "under control" for a restore:
Force your iPod into disk mode. To do that, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for about 6 seconds.
Then, as soon as the screen on your iPod goes dim, release off the buttons, and begin to press and hold the Play/Pause and Select buttons together for a few seconds.
It might take a couple of tries, but when you've reached disk mode, your iPod should display "Disk Mode. OK to Disconnect".
For more details, see this article about it:
Putting your iPod into disk mode
After your iPod is in disk mode, try connecting it to your computer again for a restore.
See if it stays under control during the restoring process, and if it completes sucessfully.
