    hey
recently i reset my ipod wid the usual hold on back off and then menu and select for a while, it erased all of my music, thats not the problem, now it wont recognise the ipod and a file with an ! mark on it comes up wen i plug it in.

Please put your iPod in disk mode, plug it with your Mac. If failed, the simply way is to fix it with a PC - it will mount, do a restore in PC version before re do the Restore in Mac afterward

  • Ipod Wont Mount in Updater

    please help me guys !
My New 5th is shown on desktop and itunes but it wont see the ipod updater
I have tried everything and its just new out of the box.
The option in import photos in ipod/itunes is not showing up either.
I have software 1.0 on the new ipod
    Please advise
    Thanks

These maybe some of the causes of your problem.
USB port - Ipod need to be connected to the High Power USB 2.0 port at the back of your PC and not those at the front, and do not use USB hub (powered or otherwise), when syncing or Restoring iPod.
Winsock confilcts with iTunes - monitoring software and plugins, such as AntiVirus and Internet plugins do freeze iTunes, when deadlock occurs waiting for USB Resources. - So stop Antivirus and uninstall plugins. But please disconnect from Internet when you stop the Antivirus. Even e-mails apps have been reported to freeze iTunes when syncing.
Hard Disk dying, please do the Disk Diagnostic as posted regularly by tt2.

This wont fix your problem, but confirm that your hardisk need to be replaced.

  • Ipod wont mount

hello, i need help my ipod shuffle wont work anymore : this message is shown:
{one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctionned.)
I have tryed on 5 differents comps..same message,,so its not a usb prob from my comp.. its the Ipod...Any solutions. Thanks very much.

I am very worried by the response to Kate's post. Just to double check, my problem is as follows: -
I was given a 40gig ipod in April 2004 but due to a problem with my old computer, only started to use it in March this year.
Everything was working OK (except that the battery life seems very short) until I upgraded to the latest version of itunes.
Now, when I plug the ipod into the computer, the 'administrators ipod' icon appears in itunes and then the computer shuts down and immediately restarts. When it has restarted, I get the 'serious error' message but apart from that, the computer is fine and I've not lost anything from itunes.
My computer runs on XP and connection is via firewire. The ipod itself works OK and I can import CD's into itunes without any problems.
The ipod cost a lot of money and I'll be very annoyed if it's finished after only 5 months of actual use. Are there any other solutions?

  • Ipod wont mount/format does nothing/ hd dead?

    HI
I own a 3g ipod 15gb. It had been working fine. A week ago, I put it to sleep, and when it woke up it kerp flashing the broken folder icon and then reseting. I cound not mount it. By pressing the foreward button, I would get into disk mode.
Connecting to a computer got it to say
"disk mode-do not disconnect" but it would not mount/ appear in disk utility. Somehow, I got it to finally work and formatted and reset the firmware on a friends windows comp. It worked fine once, then the same thing happened. After taking it off my mac, it will say "ok to disconnect" and freezes there
    anyone have a sugestion?
ps...I got it replaced a month ago in warrenty, but now that is up. Can I still send it back (warranty on the replacement?) thanx

  • Ipod wont mount on powerbook

My ipod will no longer mount on my laptop. IT is mac formatted and will mount on other macs, it just seems to dislike my own personal computer, which is a huge problem because i need to put some new songs on et al. It will connect and gives me the do not disconnect screen on the ipod itself but when i check up on it in disk utility it says that its not mounted, and it will never mount no longer how long i wait. Is there any way to fix this problem without reformatting my ipod? If it helps, it seems that after any ipod is plugged into my laptop, then another mac computer, my laptop no longer wants to mount it. Its not an ipod specific problem, its a computer problem, or at least it seems. Any help is appreciated. oh, i ahve a ipod photo 60 gig.
    -Steven

    Hello Steven,
It seems that you must do a Restore to solve the problem.

  • Ipod wont start up

My 3G Ipod got disconnected while applying the latest update. Now It wont mount to my pc. When I plug in the Ipod the Apple symbol Appers for a few seconds, then a picture of the Ipod plug (the part that plugs into the bottom of the Ipod) appers on the Ipod screen, there is also and arrow pointing away from the plug. I'm guessing its telling me to plug it in, but it is pluged in!! The Ipod then turns off after 2seconds. When its pluged in a message pops up on my computer saying "USB Device Not Recognised".
I also have a Photo Ipod and it will mount to my computer no problem. I have tried all the USB ports but same thing keeps displaying on the Ipod! Resetting it doesn't fix it either.
3G   Windows XP   Ipod Photo works fine.

    Hello,
First try ] these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If does not work, please have a check of your iPod in diagnostic mode
    Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.

  • Ipod wont restore or go into disc mode

My ipod wont turn on properly. when i try it displays the apple icon for a few seconds and then the folder/exclamation mark icon before turning itself off. I tried restoring the software but i get an error message saying 'can't mount ipod'. It wont go into disc mode either, i just get the apple icon. I think it needs professional help and i know it hasnt been a year since i bought it and it should still be under warranty but i cant find my receipt. any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

I just updated itunes with my ipod connected.  When the update finished my computer didn't recognize the ipod and then itunes thought there were 2 ipods connected to my computer.  After I disconnected the iPod I tried to turn it on where I get the big red X and what sounds like hard drive crunching.  I've tried started in disc mode, but it won't.
And smacking the iPod on the table, is that really the way to get it to work???

  • MY IPOD WONT EVEN BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY MY PC

Every time i go ahead and plug my ipod in it doesnt do anything. It just stays on the menu and my computer doesnt acknowledge it either. Sometimes my ipod makes like a clicking sound like its about to do soemthing but then it doesnt. I dont understand because my ipod plays and charges perfectly fine and it used to work fine and i havent changed anything on my computer. I think its a second generation ipod ( the that has no clicker wheel and the four buttons on top of the wheel)
Ive tried to restore it but the ipod doesnt appear there either. I also tried the device manager, not there, and i tried putting into disk mode, which it did at first, even thought it didnt show up on the computer, but now when i try disk mode the ipod wont do it. Tried resetting it like a billion times and it always makes that clicking noise like its trying to do something, but it never does. One time when i plugged it in a bubble popped up on my computer that said something about new hardware that needed to be reformatted or didnt work or something. But that never happened again. And i tried the diff USB port thing that didnt work either.
I'm desperate for suggestions if anybody has any- im dying to update my ipod!! its been like this for months now! sorry for blabbing on about my problems for so long.
    Help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Ipod wont turn on /show up my computer

    hey there
my ipod wont turn on. it sounds as if its firing up, then fails and displays the sad i pod icon. I've tried restoring factory settings etc but because my computer wont recognise it this can be done
if anyone could help me out i;d be very grateful
    Thanks

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this
